  • The European version of this game has a pretty picture of the girl and her robot on the cartridge.

  • @zeushighscore

Yeah most european PAL games have awesome boxart, I think this is becoulse they did not alter there games to western audiance like they do for north america but use the japanse art, but this only goes for retro games sadly nowadays they suck .

  • Why do I always get the feeling that he is very high.

  • i just got this game and the artwork on the case makes up for the carts lack of artwork, man i love this game its awesome!

  • OH YEAH. Dig that sega music!

  • Can't wait to buy this game.

  • classic game room made me hungry for waffle fries... :(

  • I have lots of fond memories with Arrow Flash! =)

  • I love this game and i used to play it all the time on my Genesis.

Still one of my favorite spaceship shooters ever.

Got great fun gameplay, awesome music and very cool Boss fights.

  • "Set me free, why don't ya babe. Get off my life why don't ya babe."

  • If I wanted health and well being, I would eat a salad and practice to run a marathon. Hahaha!

  • ROFLMAO AT THE END

  • im surprised this game didn't get recalled because of seizures on stage 3

  • NOTE: you can use the arrow flash ability to move trough the meteroid field without dying its very usefull

  • I took a chance when I bought the game Steel Talons for the genesis :(

  • good lord this game still looks awesome

  • There's a music score found in sound test that I can't find in the game. Is there a secret level? Or was the level scraped like many in sonic 2?

  • i loved this game, had it on japanese converter

  • The closest you can get to a Macross game on the Genesis. It's a good one if you can find it.

  • @SeekerLancer macross for the super famicom right? i beat that shit man. feel proud of it to

  • 10:31 LOL.

  • sum1 probably commented this already, but you can arrow flash through the 2nd bunch of asteroid in the 'guy mode' 5:38

  • @tyniehawk Thanx dude! I´ve been playin this game for just some time, but EVERY time I pass that damn section... I bite the dust. You sir, are a freakin hero. If nothing else, my controler sertanly thinks so

  • YAY FOR ARROW FLASH! This game and me = history

  • Mark just made me want to eat waffle fries...

  • You forgot to say that you can switch between charging your arrow flash or collecting them.

  • 7:00 MY EYES @_@

  • I have this on the little portable Genesis they recently made, I play while I am having a dump lol.

  • I tried this game based solely on your review. (To be honest, I never heard of it until then.) Glad I gave it a whirl.

  • should i get this or thunder force 2

  • @hardcorerocc ThunderForce II kicks ass, I haven't played this one yet, but I would definitely recommend TFII - it's my favorite Genesis game and it's really cheap nowadays, I got it for like 6 bucks at amazon.com

  • @hardcorerocc Thunderforce 2, but this game doesnt really cost that much, so just get it while your at it ;)

  • mine cart has actually pretty cool artwork:

you see the chick in the friont(although she isnt in japanese style here she has brown hair here) and behind her is the cool robot and in the background there's space and some planet and a bunch of enemy's

well ive got the european mega drive version though...

  • The Genesis sound chip really sucked ass.

  • why does mark sound so lethargic in this review... monotone

  • @MikePitcher You have heard him talk about his love of beer, right ;)

  • Well i dont think e s is better but a f looks better. i think its the same creator that made both

  • ILL be damed this looks formilar to empire steel i recommend e s for sega genisis. es is better

  • thx for teh review im goin to have to find this game

  • iv got this today for 1 cent

  • I used have this game and enjoy playing it when I was kid. I was stupid to trade it in for another game. I remember a secret where u had unlimited arrow flash power in robot form that lasted a very long time and I can't remember how I did it.

  • LOL Star Wars reference :)

  • Heh, late in the game, I bought this game when it was released. Whip Rush and Gaiares were the best.

  • Could anyone plleaaase do me a huge favor and tell me the name of the classic game room theme? i've tried searching with google, i even tried shazam and soundhound with my phone. nothing worked. you guys are my last hope :)

  • @davecarldude The song is probably made specifically for CGR.

  • @vittau thats what i thought too, but then i've heard it on some fitness exercise video... i don't think they'll steal from a videogame show... :S

  • YOUTUBE GET RID OF THAT GREY BAR AT THE BOTTOM!!! WHOS WITH ME?

  • 80s ANIME INTRO!!!! O_o

I think I'm in heaven. Go on! Give the original Bubblegum Crisis a run for its money ^_^ 80s scifi anime. Is there anything better?

  • i love this guy's narration =]

  • this game looks a lot like forgotten worlds, except instead of using flying shirtless dudes you use a plane that turns into a mech

  • reminds me of Whip Rush

  • Meh, Arrow Flash is ok.

    Kinda bland & easy.

  • Gaiares and Thunder Force 3, 4, Valis 3!

  • I just got the Japanese Mega Drive version in brand new condition for $1. I'm gonna play it on my JVC X-Eye.

  • arrowflash, mega turrican, gairaes, gunstar heroes those were the days

  • I have the Japanese version of this (which is exactly the same). It is drastically inferior to Thunderforce or Gaiares, but I got it for free (along with MK3) with my Sega Nomad many years ago, so I can't complain.

  • I have this game ad love it.

  • whaa dood what ya talking about? This game is mint!

  • WAFFLE FRY LASER, FUCK YEAR.

  • I love how the narration goes so far past being retarded that it's just awesome. Waffle fries :D

  • Im glad this game got a fairly positive review, it was defo one of my favourites in youth.

  • it would realy be cool if you would do a collection vid of all the games you have

  • It's worth noting that in the Japanese version of the game, the name of the robot you are controlling is called "Lucifon".

  • Five stars for mentioning waffles 8D

  • THIS IS WHAT GOT ME INTO VIDEOGAMES!

  • 420 play megadrive erryday

  • ... man i wish i was born when Atari came out

  • man u should be paid for this

  • I think he actually does get paid (IIRC, he's a YouTube partner).

  • I played this game when I was a kid. Never forgot it.

  • I strongly suspect that the "OUT OF DANGER" text is a language flaw and is intended to be something like "WARNING! DANGER!" instead, actually warning the player that the boss is approaching. A lot of games back then had bad English. Does "All your base are belong to us" ring a bell, anyone? ;)

  • What you say may be true, I don't know about that since I've never played Warcraft 3. But "All your base are belong to us" doesn't come from Warcraft originally. It's from the opening of the PAL version of Zero Wing, with is a game for the Sega Mega Drive. The PAL version, which was released in 1991, had really poor English translation. I doubt that Warcraft 3 was even released in 1991, or am I wrong?

You could search for "All your base are belong to us" on wikipedia for some more info. :)

  • thanks for the info :D

  • "you have no chance to survive, make your time!!" yea, i remember that game hahahahahaha....if i recall, it was a little harder than arrow flash was....

  • Zero Wing was a bitch towards the end.

  • now i wont some waffle fries you basterd

  • This game is awesome!! one of my first genesis games!!! love it!!

  • I love the flashing sign of doom saying "OUT OF DANGER". It's so weird to loudly announce one's safety.

  • Meant to say show the gold of the game.

  • theres parts where i disagree with this guy, but a review is a personal opinion. But you just got to love the way he reviews the games. how stupid or bad looking the game is, he will look past the flaws and show the gold of game. I consider him a "brilliant reviewer". i feel like i got to say no homo after saying this thoa (no homo)

  • The main theme sounds like Mega Man's soundtracks and 80's music were fused together in a force of awesomeness.

  • my first game on mega drive

  • AF was one of my favorites shooters. I bought it new at Toys R Us for $20 in 1991 when I was in middle school and is one of my all time favs along with Target Earth, Gaiares and Lightning Force. What a game!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 11:55 Yay Platterpus!

  • 0:34 That is some music there. Sweetness.

  • Beautiful 16-bit multi-parallax-scrolling FX on a horizontal playing field FTW!! I HEART your videogame Reviews dude! You rokk!! Retro-tastic, keep up the excellent uploads!!

  • I like how you sound serious, and make useful comments rather than usual.

  • you sound sad/tired mark

  • Probably before his first cup of coffee as he often comments his love for it.

  • One of my favourate Mega Drive games! Please make it on Vertual Console or I will resort to GAME!

  • I can tell you grew up in the 80's just like I did, I love space ships that change into robots and blow shit up

  • My favorite feature in the game is in the options menu, you can turn the super weapon into a charge shot. It starts as a weapon stock of limited shots.

  • genesis games almost always have awesome music

  • Xenon 2 = Manic Shooter

    This = Relaxed

    You're Right!!!!

  • Lol. i ate salad during this vid lol.

  • lol wtf :P

  • Sweet, when they made the Power Ranger's game for the Sega Genesis it was very cheesey. Earl and Toe Jam made a much better game when it came out.

  • i was into this game mainly because of growing up on robotech. does anybody know the cheat to have infinite arrow flash??? i did it on accident a couple of times

  • Whoa the memories.... I really feel old...

  • OKAy U've convinced me hello amazon purchase!!

  • what are waffle fryz?

  • If you're into robots equipped for mass destruction, you should review Target: Earth on the Genesis. It seems like a game you'd love, and I'd like to hear what you thought of it. It's tough as nails but a very well-crafted game.

  • WHAT?!?!? you bought a game on hear'say? without even trying it? what a terrible terrible! risk! $2.50 , what would your mom say? :) WAIT a minute, the symbol "SEGA", thats a sign of quality assurance alrite ;) I need not have fretted

  • Health and well-being through robotic force. I'm with you there. :)

  • The intro music to these videos always reminds of a song in fist of the north stay. Sorry I am not a geek enough to know what the name of the song or artist is.

  • This review made me hungry...now you have to review waffle fries next. I'm not even kidding, pre-heat that oven Classic Game Room!!

  • this is one of the most generic shooters i've ever played, avoid this game cuz theres plenty of other better shmups on the genesis.

  • renovation used to make some really great games for the sega genesis back in the day. el viento, the valis series and many othe great shooting games

  • I agree, the games they put out were well above average. Oddly enough, Renovation Products never actually *developed* anything -- they were only a publisher, who mostly localized Wolf Team's games (El Viento, Sol-Deace, etc.)

But Arrow Flash, as well as Gain Ground, were actually developed by Sega. I wonder why it is that they outsourced their games to Renovation for U.S. publishing, but released them under their own label overseas? (The game boxes & title screens reflect this difference.)

  • @artnandez Renovation was a publisher not a developer. They simply brought Japanese games to the USA. Valis was by Telenet. Not sure about other one,

  • it reminds me a little bit on gleylancer

  • aw this game was the shit EPIC fucking game oh how i miss it

  • Can you please review either or both- Insector x and Phelios on the Genesis..? That would be sweeeeeet!

  • This game reminds me a lot of Gradious.

  • This game has some fantastic music. Its not in the same league as ThunderForce II and IV but its a good solid shoot'em up.

Shoot'em ups flourished on the Megadrive/Genesis. There's so many qaulity titles, including this.

  • I'm sorry, but IMO this game sucks. There are so much better hori-shmups in the Genesis library it's not even funny. Another one made by the same Renovation is Whip Rush - a clear evolution from Arrow Flash and a better game overall.

  • its obvious that you are using a turbo controller, there is no way you could press the fire button that fast.

i liked the review especially the waffles part, that was funny.

  • i remember theres shooting game u can choose area , there will be map of world, and depend on which area u choose, ur air plane differs.

I also remember there is stage u use drill-like airplane that can go thru rocks that blocks you. That game was ownage, but i just cant remember the title..

  • they look like little deformed gundams

  • Love the trippy background in the beginning of Stage 3 :D

  • cool. I have this game and it's not bad

  • reminds me alot of MUSHA

  • Booya Arrow Flash is a great game

  • lool i love the way this guy is talking about a video game then starts telling us why he likes waffle fries

  • Arrow Flash is better for you. LMAO!!! THAT WAS THE BEST!!!!

  • I love the way Marks voice gets all excited and proud when he reviews a shmup. Like a kid on Christmas day.

  • Shmup's for the win!

  • The beginning sounds like "Get outta my life why dontcha babe??"

Damn - gotta get my Mega Drive out of the loft.

  • they should've made a game about waffle fries...doing things waffle fries do...in space...to SAVE THE WORLD!!

  • "Aeroflash - Better than salad"

lol, they should've put that on the box

  • Didn't like this too much, the special move is way overpowered and it's very short and run of the mill throughout. Lots of better shooters for the MD!

  • This looks pretty cool. The music kicks ass.

  • this game kinda remidns me of ma-cross, tbh wouldnt be surprized if it was based on it

  • if you didnt do it already can you review action 52 one of the greatest games ever made

  • I sure hope that's sarcasm.

  • Haha, yeah you should definatly review it.

  • waffle fries... you've made me hungry.

  • Indeed. it looks good. Obviously nothing compared to einhander. Einhander is the hardet shooter out there and is one of the best games made i would say. May not have a giant mainstream following like GTA but it is definitly a cult classic.

  • I remember this one

  • Mmm... Waffle fries :D I wonder if Wind Squid likes them? Maybe they're a secret powerup for him like beer is ;)

  • good ole genesis greatness

  • Kinda reminds me of the Darius series in a way. But with waffle fries and not fish sticks.

  • Ive never played this game. But now that Ive seen it I want to! Awesome video man.

  • lol that opening is almost a anime opening

    awesome!

  • my fav side scrolling retro shooter is prolly Keio Flying Squadron on Sega CD,

    just found it fun.

  • oh, I almost forgot to tell you. The european cartridge is quite beautiful. Its a picture of the girl pilot posing, with the big robot in the backgrund looking quite menacing! I bought the game based on the cartridge alone!its weird sometimes how stuff like that can differ between regions

  • this is actually one of my all time fav-games. Cant really say why, I just love it. The music is totally rad in some stages!

  • This is an awsome review it encouraged me to go buy the game myself due to the fact that i love shooters, things that blow up and spaceships.

  • Waffle Fry! Sounds like the mortal enemy of the mighty Wind Squid. :D

    Great review Mark.

  • Another great review man.

  • I can remember playing this years and years ago
