Ray Stevenson was perfect as the Punisher. Dominic West came off like he just started acting, despite all his great work on HBO's the Wire. Finally Micro is here, but three movies in, and still no van? Despite how super fucking easy as it seems to make a great Punisher movie, there will never be one. I'm still shocked Wolverine didn't pop up in a cameo. C'on Marvel, get it together.
The reason people don't like this movie is because of the violence while I think it suits the punisher and the characters. Dolph did not fit as castle in my opinion and 2004 version castle was a depressed ass clown. While this movie was what the punisher should be people are pussies due to violence.

My problem with this movie is that the villains are way too cartoonish, and I didn't hate them. In the Thomas Jane movie I actually DESPISED Howard Saint and his cronies, and couldn't wait to see them get what they deserve. Jigsaw was a bufoonish cartoon character with no reality to him at all.

The reason why some people didn't enjoy the 1st more then the 2nd was because they jumped ahead of the character development and expected the punisher to be "the punisher" quickly....unfortunately no one turns into a maniac that fast, which is why I respected the 1st one to take the time to develop the character slowly and talk more about his background, and the 2nd one is where he's true face begins...

@mroddydawg. Dolph Lundgren was the first actor to play The Punisher not Thomas Jane the first Punisher movie was released in 1989. And is an overlooked film.
It's overlooked because it's terrible. Aside from the title The Punisher, and the main character being named Frank Castle, it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the comic books.

It may not be 100% faithful and it takes many liberties with the comics but it is a fun gritty b-grade action move that entertains and is the most realistic of all three Punisher films and captures the spirit of the comics of the times, and let's not forget even without the skull Dolph plays The Punisher like a mean motherfucker
Well, it's been a while since I've seen the 89 film. I saw it a few years back and remember it being nothing like the comics. But that's ok if people enjoyed it. To each his own.
I personally loved the 2004 one with Tom Jane. A lot of people hated that one and claim it's hardly like the comics either, even though it has more to do with them than 89 film.
@SlasherIncorporated I would advise to re-watch 1989. It is not exactly faithful and is quite low budget but it captures the sprit of 70's and 80's Punisher comics. it gets the job done and it is a gritty movie which I appreciate. It is better than 2004 which I cannot stand but to be honest there hasn't exactly been a 100% perfect Punisher movie. War Zone is the best of the bunch, as it is a ultraviolent hardcore action movie for the fans.

I have never seen the kind of hammy acting that Jane bestows upon us from Lundgren , Dolph did a better job as Frank Castle than Thomas Jane could ever hope to do. Punisher War Zone, out of all the 'Punisher' movies was the most correct when it comes to comic book adaptation. Stevenson plays a great Frank Castle and his emotionless cold eyes as he rips through his enemies is all out fantastic, another installment should of been produced. Although I like Thomas Jane, I thought he portrayed a soft and comical interpretation of Frank Castle, two descriptions that the actual Punisher is not. Good job Ray Stevenson!!
This is the third attempt to do justice to the classic Marvel Comics character, and this is hands down the best of the three. The actor in the title role is far better than the last two guys, the action is far better (although it does border sadistic), and the villains are the absolute best. The only real problem with the film is that it didn't touch enough on Frank Castle's backstory and how he picked up his allies in his war on crime. Still, it was good film.
@srdjan455 I've not read Punisher MAX. When dealing with the Punisher character, though, I think it's always important to keep the audience (both movie and reading) sort of on the side of Castle. It needs to sympathize with him as well as (at least on some level) cheer when he dishes out undiluted punishment to those deserving of it. Going too far into sadism risks alienating the audience from the Punishment and making the audience want Castle to go down hard.
@FiendsInRedSatin1 Well Punisher MAX can be really brutal as time but you keep cheering for Frank.Example, there is a female pimp that makes women go throw horrible stuff.What does he do? He throws her against really thick glass several times, first to break bones in her body and then he throws her really hard so that the glass frame falls off and then she falls to the ground and die.

The Thomas Jane Punisher movie was a revenge story that had nothing to do with the comics other than bits from Welcome Back Frank. War Zone was a Garth Ennis book come to life only except the dialogue and plot is sort of crap. Hell. Get Garth Ennis to make the next Punisher movie. Make it a deep and personal learning of Frank's psyche and y he does what he does. And of course make him whoop ass like no other vigilante.

It may not be 100% faithful and it takes many liberties with the comics but it is a fun gritty b-grade action move that entertains and is the most realistic of all three Punisher films and captures the spirit of the comics of the times, and let's not forget even without the skull Dolph plays The Punisher like a mean motherfucker

Well, it's been a while since I've seen the 89 film. I saw it a few years back and remember it being nothing like the comics. But that's ok if people enjoyed it. To each his own.
I personally loved the 2004 one with Tom Jane. A lot of people hated that one and claim it's hardly like the comics either, even though it has more to do with them than 89 film.

It is not exactly faithful and is quite low budget but it captures the sprit of 70's and 80's Punisher comics. it gets the job done and it is a gritty movie which I appreciate. It is better than 2004 which I cannot stand but to be honest there hasn't exactly been a 100% perfect Punisher movie. War Zone is the best of the bunch, as it is a ultraviolent hardcore action movie for the fans.

Punisher War Zone, out of all the 'Punisher' movies was the most correct when it comes to comic book adaptation. Stevenson plays a great Frank Castle and his emotionless cold eyes as he rips through his enemies is all out fantastic, another installment should of been produced. Although I like Thomas Jane, I thought he portrayed a soft and comical interpretation of Frank Castle, two descriptions that the actual Punisher is not. Good job Ray Stevenson!!

This is the third attempt to do justice to the classic Marvel Comics character, and this is hands down the best of the three. The actor in the title role is far better than the last two guys, the action is far better (although it does border sadistic), and the villains are the absolute best. The only real problem with the film is that it didn't touch enough on Frank Castle's backstory and how he picked up his allies in his war on crime. Still, it was good film.

@srdjan455 I've not read Punisher MAX. When dealing with the Punisher character, though, I think it's always important to keep the audience (both movie and reading) sort of on the side of Castle. It needs to sympathize with him as well as (at least on some level) cheer when he dishes out undiluted punishment to those deserving of it. Going too far into sadism risks alienating the audience from the Punishment and making the audience want Castle to go down hard.

The Thomas Jane Punisher movie was a revenge story that had nothing to do with the comics other than bits from Welcome Back Frank. War Zone was a Garth Ennis book come to life only except the dialogue and plot is sort of crap. Hell. Get Garth Ennis to make the next Punisher movie. Make it a deep and personal learning of Frank's psyche and y he does what he does. And of course make him whoop ass like no other vigilante.
