@kidcaper007 He knows practically every language spoken in India! He gave me an example of Marathi, Gujrati, Bengali, Kannada, Sanskrit, Hindi, and many more!!!
He is not bengali but looks like he can speak the language very well. After all Calcutta for musicians is a special place, so I am not surprised that he can speak bengali so well. He must have lived there for some time and performed in the city countless no. of times.
You are right. Many other famous musicians speak good Bengali! I have heard many musicians from classical space as well as from Mumbai film industry; Rajan/Sajan Mishra to Udit Narayan -- most of them speak quite good Bangali. The other point to remember is that both Hindi and Bengali came from Sanskrit; hence, there are many similarities in these languages.
@omsatya And he is married to the iconic filmmaker the late V Shantaram's daughter, Madhuraji, who hails from Maharashtra! And his daughter-in-law is a Chitrapur Saraswat, whose mother tongue Konkani is as melodious as the song of Ma Saraswati
Jasraj-ji's sister-in-law (boudi) is a Bengalee lady Kankana Banerjee., who herself is a fairly good classical vocalist.
