  • Wow...you have incredible chops, my friend! I'm impressed that you've learned the solo so quickly and mastered it identically! The Amott brothers are not to be reckoned with lightly, they certainly know their share of metal scales and how to incorporate them perfect. Although, I'm not sure about the C Minor being the last scale. Do you know what the root note of the solo is? Because it looks like you had a flatted second, which would imply Phrygian or Phrygian Dominant.

  • @moviemaker3000

hey thanks man for your support, finally some nice guys here on youtube :)

well about that scale, its not c minor,i don't know how it is called that's why i said that it is based on c minor (some notes removed, bad theory knowledge blah),i was searching quite long to find out what scale that is because it's my personal favorite one,but no luck..

  • @blizzardvekic Absolutely, my friend! It is my pleasure to give support to those who deserve it! Last night, I spent some extensive time looking up a few things, and I have figured out exactly what is going on in each part of this solo. The part that is your personal favorite (the end) also happens to be my favorite part. I'll try to explain what it is in a separate post as to avoid overloading this one:

  • @blizzardvekic he is using a D Phrygian Dominant Scale, which is essentially a D Minor scale with a flat 2nd and a raised 3rd. When he does that run at the end of the solo, however, he chooses only the notes in this scale that are one half step apart from each other, and then skips through each group of these. So, it isn't an arpeggio, but just a common run that sounds really good. Do you catch my drift?

  • @moviemaker3000

yes,i get it,but ...can i send you gp tab with the notes from this scale because i can't express myself properly through words :D ?

  • @blizzardvekic I don't have Guitar Pro, but what is it that you want to show me by sending me this tab?

  • @moviemaker3000

    nevermind

  • @blizzardvekic Aight.

  • Clean as a crystal and perfectly nailed. And the slow part helps a lot. Great cover bro, one of the best on youtube (if not the best).

  • HELP!! CAN YOU SEND THAT GUITAR TAB TO MY E-MAIL ADDRESS reynard.permejo@yahoo.com.ph

  • good cover

  • OMG Thats amazing!!

  • in my face!! great you really nailed it.

  • I haven't commented on anything in over a year - to emphasize my enthusiasm:

    direct and efficient approach:playing slow shows you understand;

LOVE the text on screen info, actual guitarist will have a 5 min lesson on same length portion just talking about it you simply have to say the key the rest you can hear!

Great job! Love your concise approach!

  • @WarlockTamer

Well I really want people to start learning by ear and to understand basic metal scales like these, and it won't be a big problem to learn it by ear,or just watch the video, thats why I won't make a tab of this,I did it before,it's just a waste of time.

I really appreciate what you're saying,it really means a lot.

  • @sorcor2

you're wrong, listen to rhythm guitar,it's in D,or at least he keeps the low note in D on second fret (if you were in C second fret is D).so basically chris rips off the very known pattern of D harmonic minor at the beginning, [ better known as E harmonic if you were in E standard]at least every metal head should know that scale, listen to "structure divine" by soilwork, peter shreds that scale in the beginning of solo

  • @blizzardvekic

I'm stil not sure - because if I take fingering I thing you play and sounds the same to what I play 4,5,6 - E string, 5,7,8 - A string ... and so on octave higher ...

The tones are G#,A,B,D,E,F (normal tuning) - if you add the tone C which is jumped over and sort, it is A,B,C,D,E,F,G# - which is in my opinion A harmonic minor scale. D harm. minor. should be D,E,F,G,A,A#,C#

...Correct me if I miss something again.

  • @sorcor2

    you're wrong again :D

lets say we're in E tuning,so that fist scale i played is E harmonic minor,it confuses you because i started with G# note cause it's difficult to start with a root note there, that's why this scale shape comes handy, its easy to play, listen to viking kong by paul gilbert, you'll understand it then,i lack theory knowledge :P

  • @blizzardvekic

Now I'm completely confused because G# shouldn't be in my opinion in E harmonic minor scale - it is major third!

  • @sorcor2 Hello. I think I've figured out the scale here. He is indeed using a major third, which is not present in a harmonic minor scale. Therefore, he is using a mode of the harmonic minor scale called Phrygian Dominant. It is the fifth mode of the harmonic minor scale, and is constructed by using a Phrygian scale with a raised third.

  • @blizzardvekic Learning it by tabs is the easiest way.

I hate it when people think they're amazing just because they learned things by ear. It's just unnecessary waste of time. Learning from the tabs and learning by ear have the same result.

I gave up doing it because it takes 10x longer.

  • @BeastLordofMetal Take a little pride in being a musician and learn to listen rather than relying on tabs all the time...sheesh. "Tabs is the easiest way"...This guy learned this solo in 30 minutes. In an hour you'd still be staring at the tab, learning note by note and not know what the rhythm is. *Sigh*

  • @moviemaker3000 The longest a solo has taken me to learn is necrophagist "fermented offal discharge", it took me around an hour to perfect it.

Most solo's take me no more than 10-15 minutes to learn by tab. I can learn by ear but it simply takes double the time learning by tabs does.

I don't care how amazing anyone thinks they are by learning by ear.

I listen to the song to learn the timing and the rhythm, I look at the tabs simply as a quicker way to learn the frets to play.

    good day :)

  • DUDE! CAN YOU SEND ME THAT GUITAR TAB OR GUITAR PRO TAB.. HERE IS MY EMAIL reynard.permejo@yahoo.com.ph. BY THE WAY, MY GUITAR TUNING IS C STANDARD TUNING.

  • Great cover my friend. Nailed perfectly.

  • @JohnChaosVirtue

    thank you John,cheers :)

  • nice commercial for nike xD

  • @cultofd

    haha so br00tal

  • epic!

  • damn i wish i could shred haha i fail so hard at solos.

  • nice, thx !

  • Nice ! The only think I may suggest is you could have switched to the bridge pickup for the last arpeggio.

  • Wow , that was fuckin great ... can u make a tab of it ??

  • @UnderGroundMetalUS

it's better to use your ears and theory knowledge, and i've made a slow part by part lesson so it shouldn't be difficult to learn it,but to play it, a total different story :P

  • @blizzardvekic I am still learning so it's hard for me to figure out it by my ears :S :S anyway thank u , u did a great job

  • @blizzardvekic you are one talented dude. Totally blown away by your playing and knowledge of the guitar. Your guitar looks amazing. Can I ask what guitar you're using, amplifier, effects etc? Thank you very much for this wonderful demo, you've inspired me.

  • Fucking amazing playing mate! Thanks for the lesson, really cool. I'm a huge Chirs fan but usual to intimidated to try to learn his stuff. I'll definitley be learning this one though. Well done dude.
