That was fantastic! My kids were dancing to it! Well, so was I actually :-)
Was I hearing the word HaShem? Isn't that like a reverent Name for G-d? I'd love to know what the lyrics are and what they mean. Of course, I see the comment concerning Ex 15:1. That's the song of Moses after crossing the Red Sea on dry ground! Could you expound on that a bit please?
@pike942 Thanks for listening. The term "Hashem" simply means "The Name" and is used amongst many religious jews as a way to refer to God in common speech, and in many cases, in song that is being sung outside of the context of a formal prayer setting. The vese from Exodus come from what is often known as "The Song of the Sea," which as spontaneous expression of the Jewish people's gratitude, and praise towards God for freeing them from slavery in Egypt, through song.
@mimiwald sure it says-- Then moses and the children of israel sang this song unto God: ``I will sing unto God for he is very exalted, he has thrown the horse and its rider into the sea``
Do I understand from a previous question that all you live in Israel and not in the US or another Western Country? I love watching these guys, to. I think my favorite song is the one that starts with with the blond boy studying at home and gets the gift of a ticket from his father. The boys sing with such passion it really tugs at my heart.
@MNChoirMom Glad you enjoy the music. Yes, all the boys in the choir live here in Israel. This past year, the choir has performed all around Israel, as well as Paris, London, and New York.
@ShemeshMusic I think the song MNChoirMon is talking about is Haboitchim. I have played it not less than 15 times today and I'm still not trough with the song.
I've started learning. I will eventually get the CD for myself but nothing would trill like being in their concert. God bless does boys.
@okmich So glad to hear you're enjoying the music. The soloist that you and @MNChoirMom are referring too is named Moshe Bell. He's an exceptionally talented singer and has since gone on to sing on a bunch of other albums.
@Dessybaby1233 Thanks For listening! The boys all speak Hebrew and the majority of them speak English as well. Many of the boys are children of immigrants, or even immigrants themselves, from the United States and other English speaking countries. Almost all of the songs that the boys sing are in Hebrew with traditional lyrics from either Jewish Liturgy or the Hebrew Bible, with just a few songs with original lyrics in English or with some English in them.
@ShemeshMusic Thanks for the answer! Wow! thats cool! You've got a litte of everyone in the choir, huh? :) Well, whatever launguages they speak they are amazing. I think I've heard some of their english songs before.
@z17jrsa Thanks. Glad you're enjoying the music. The boys generally range in age from age 8 - 13, though occasionally a boy will be a bit younger or a bit older. When their voices start to change, they know it's time to move on.
