  • FIRE!!!!!!

  • Incredible version, though I must say I don't really like Dave's vocals here. It was probably awesome in context of "final song of the show", but as a stand-alone vid on youtube, it's a bit too crude.

  • The LEGEND likes it a lot. Search SurveyLegend

  • @TheSurveyLegend I tried to search for surveylegend....but I took an arrow to the knee.

  • That black guy raped that fuckin violin

  • Comment removed

  • this bands awesomeness is too much for walls. thats why they keep doing outdoor concerts

  • @drumswhilegolfing101 and because there are too many fans to fit in walls lol

  • Comment removed

  • this is great

  • That guy made the violin awesome again.

  • Nice video, keep it up. Watch for BRANDON JAROD new music, OCT. release. Awesome!

  • no band has ever done watchtower as good as DMB... the best....

  • dave matthews best vocalist in the world!!

  • brill

  • Just doesn't get any better then this.

  • Forgot how this kinda sounded like stairway. Probably just cuz it's the same chords. LOOOOVE the sax solo.

  • outstanding!

  • Thats awesome when the cop starts like the song at 0:37

  • the drumming part at 2:07 is siiiiiiiiick!

  • @9611CALL if you think that drumming is sick you should here the beats in two step. That is some crazy drumming.

  • This is absolutely amazing I dont think Jimi is rolling in any graves. I think he is enjoying it as much as I am.

  • this is coming form a non-dave lover..... i don't care if you like dave or not... this is a great jam. If you can not appreciate this then you are not a music fan

  • Everything is open to debate. There's gonna be lovers and haters always. Dave's cover of this song is brilliant, no question. But it's still a cover. You know as soon as you hear it that it's not a "Dave" song. Hendrix made Watchtower his. I think Dylan even gave the song to him after he heard it. Just listen to the hendrix version after this... Hendrix still owns this song.

  • @johnyard good point

  • @johnyard at a farmaid concert where dylan and dave were both there together ...dave asked dylan if dave was gonna play watchtower...dave said no i thought u were gonna play it ...then dylan said but i thought u were gonna play it...all three should be judge as seperat peaces the only thing they have similar are the lyrics

  • I think this version is really good and has real emotion and soul in it. For those who thinks the opposite, they should just put good comments to the version they think is good instead of putting some bad comments over here!

  • incredible...

  • DMB Killed this damn song.. Bob Dylan was good, but no way his voice out does Dave. I mean for fuck's sake, Dylan sounded tone deaf half the time.

  • Well despite what others may say I think this is a great version of the song. I won't put it up there with jimi hendrix cover of the song. I mean dylan himself said that it was more of hendrix's song than his. But the cover was original with its unique spin, and the musician ship great. All their jazz backgrounds really come out.

  • LOL just look at the policeman at 0:37 hahaha

  • For the record, not all music has to be super clean and vocally perfect, this aint american idol shit, this is REAL soul, Real feel and Real emotion, not the common pop garbage out there nowadays.

  • I wish this one had as good sound quality as the first one. This has all the good parts in it (except for the cool bass solo, of course).

  • HEY WOLF PUNK! SHUT THE CRAP UP AND ENJOY THE KIKASS MUZIK!!!!!!! Hu kares if hez yelin its wut he duz and it wurx so jus enjoy th music!

  • As much as I agree with Shwicket, I'm absolutely dumber for reading such horrific English.

  • lol... no one ever said it was english. it's simply "comprehendable" by english readers and/or speakers.

  • good hammond sound!

  • so you totally missed the first four minutes I take it?

  • what the fuck are you talking about?

  • you have to be pretty dim to not understand what i am saying. you don't have to agree with me, but if you don't actually understand me, well then, i feel bad for you.

  • @futurewolf42o

    wow are you serious?

if you think that than im sure that your taste in music falls into the category of CRAP, just take out the C and you got crap! if you dont like dmb than you probaly listen to that rap/r&b garbage!

and if your going to say dumb shit like that please take that 420 off the end of your user name, your given US a bad name

  • @jamie69247

yeah i'm serious, this song sucks. his voice can't do it justice, and the only redeeming part of it is the violinist.

stop taking pot shots in the dark and instead how about you tell me why you think dave attempting to sing this song is such a great thing?

  • i think that song was a little to much for Dave, and a little out of his vocal range. Even if he had been singing for the past 3 hours

  • 1:05-1:09 Dave is like "holy shit how is he doing that?!" haha

  • 4:17 absolutly incredible. not really head much of these guys, but they sound ok..

  • is he seriously playing that guitar solo on a fiddle?

  • 3:56-4:03 chillsss my bones :P

  • Richie Havens did not write "All Along the Watchtower" that is complete and utter bullpucky. Havens still plays it and attributes it to Dylan. Dylan may have ripped off the music from a traditional song but the lyrics are entirely his. Don't spread wrong infornation.

  • look at the police officer at 0:37 rockin' out!!!

  • This performance is so intense! Jeeze, to be front row there....

  • actually it was written by richie havens but dylan used it as one of his songs (with richies consent)

  • i last saw DMB at irvine and they played Everyday. boyd played his violin through that wah pedal and it was better than sex

  • Fiiiiiiirrrrreeeeeeeeeee !!!!! yh best song totally rules !!!!!

    dmb forever

  • it was originally written by Bob Dylan, hendrix just covered it too

  • lol true, go to wikipedia read everyone that has covered it, its freaking ridiculous

  • hey freddyhoofer its not dylan its hendrix

  • i like when the fuzz is groovin to the tunes

  • They nailed that one....!

  • No offense to you freddhoofer, but that was an awful place to cut the song in half. You lose all the emotion Dave had at the end of Part 1. Also, Butch can rock the hell out of that keyboard. Best Piano solo i've ever heard. Simply amazing. and of course, RIP Roi.

  • agree completely my friend

  • @swb1003 it a hammond organ solo, actually

  • @sacpilot sorry, i'm not an expert on pianos/organs. whichever it is, it sounds great.

  • It's like Along the Watchtower meets Stairway to Heaven.

  • It sounds like tenacious D and the backsound in the solos sounds like stairway to heaven

    But the intensity is amazing

  • 0:35 Hahahahaha

    Wicked!

  • Rest In Peace LeRoi... we miss you!

  • FIIIRREE!!!

  • One of the best songs I have ever heard. I'm not trying to be disrespectful of Bob Dylan or Jimi Hendrix but I think this is the best version of Watchtower.

  • OMG!!!!! thank you so much for realising it. jimi hendrik and bob dylans verisons are the same. dave has takne it to a whole new level, EASILY the best version, more emotion, more AWESOMENESSS!!!! this is how the song should have been played!

  • Well, in all fairness, Hendrix's Version is completely different (Dylan plays it like Hendrix now, check his original version to see what I mean). Had Hendrix not created his version this performance probably would have never happened :-p. That said, if I had to listen to one version of this song for the rest of my life, it would be this one.

  • this is Jimi hendrix

  • I'm dying because I soooooooooo want to be that guy, 2.27-2.29 with the red shirt... He was enjoying the sound, no doubt !

  • Was at concert last night at Montage Mtn and Tim did the stairway to heaven riff!!! It was awesome show ender!!! DMB is the greatest concert-jam band of our time! If you have been putting off going to a show MAKE it a priority!

  • greatest jam band ever, hands down

  • gorge 2010...

  • Freakin' incredible!!! :D

  • Saw them in STL and they did Watchtower into Stairway to Heaven, it was amazing.

  • RIP ROI!

  • oooouuuuuuhhhh yeeeeeeeesss!!!

  • I went to a concert in Dallas and Tim Reynolds played the actually guitar solo from stairway to heaven

  • If this isnt the best song ive ever heard idk what is... I wish hed play this version at Alpine Valley!

  • FIRE

  • My neighbor whose in high school went to the concert at Fenway Park. And the 2 days later went to another in Connecticut.

  • sounds like stairway to heaven

  • i think thats because the rhythm that dave is playing is almost identical to that in the pre-solo to stairway

and mostly sure that the bass is playing the same rhythm

  • awesome.

im not too familiar with dave matthews band but im gonna see them live in 4 days.

does anyone know if they often play this live, would be great if they do

  • i've been to 6 Dave Matthews concerts. I would say they played this song at half of them.

  • ive been to 2 shows they played it once, they play it every few shows so theres a good chance.

  • carter beauford is the f**kin man!

  • I thougt they were gonna start to play Stairway to Heaven's solo. ^^

  • Same man, when I started the video, I was like "This sound more like Zepplin"

  • 0:36

haha, the cop is gettin' into it.

  • fab! really great guy that Dave!

  • perfect! love them jammin :)

  • one of the best songs of all time and surely one of the best covers, the only thing that could make it better is if Hendrix himself were to materialise on stage and slam out a solo

  • just makes u wanna start jammin DMB is the shit

  • This video REDEFINES the term " Jammin". Someone needs to go to Wikipedia, start/change the page for jammin and link this video. That is all. Good fuckin shit.

  • he is the man!

  • love the cop getting into it!!!!!!

  • FIRE!

    NO REASON TO GET EXCITED!!!

    what a great cover.

  • What an amazing version of this song the best ive ever heard even the BSG version

  • i love seeing that cop grooving to boyds violin haha

  • chills every time.

  • here him scream so full of passion

  • went to the show in Dallas saturday night and Tim reynolds played jimmy pages stairway to heaven guitar solo....absolutely amazing!!!!

  • I am seeing him in 6 days.

I may pass out from pure excitement.

  • Sounds like someone went to th N.O Jazz Fest. last Sunday... I am going this Saturday for Bon-Jovi (my wife loves him) and Dr. John is always a GREAT experience!!!!

  • Carter is a damn good drummer.

  • the sickest drummer out there imo :)

  • there arnt words to describe its greatness

  • what a great cover, they're impressive together.

  • im a saz player and we cover some dmb songs...leroi was like my inspiration

  • continued.. an experts visual guide to bass playing...

  • I'm not a DMB fan but I was at this concert and I have to say - they were absolutely incredible. If you love music and the energy it creates, you gotta see them live

  • Blows my mind.

  • lol at the cop rockin out, but seriously you can feel the energy of them without even being there its just absolutely mind blowing.

  • If you enjoy music you owe it to yourself to see them live cause like you said the energy is amazing. By far the best concert experience i have ever had.

  • does anyone know why Butch left????

  • wow, i was never the biggest DMB fan but holy shit that is real, there is not to many people that put on a show like that, put everything into that shit damn

  • Can i just say that the sax solo in this song is one of my favorite leroi moments ever. R.I.P.

  • it is a really good one... but if i have to go favorite leroi moments, i'm gonna have to go with the pennywhistle solo after bartender at folsom field... It was such a chill way to end such a great song... Check it out if you haven't seen it, or heard it

  • yes that solo after bartender was amazing

this one in watchtower rocks too

    rip leroi

  • those bartender penny whistle solos put my soul at ease

    .......wow. cheesy.

  • incredible.

  • Holy....freaking....crap....that was unbelievably amazing!

  • how can you take out Boyd. the music wouldn't be the same with out the violin. its a band not just one person.

  • god they are so amazing its not even funny

  • why should the violin be banned? boyd is beast, and no one else could pull that off like he does. it would not be dmb without boyd.

  • i can't believe you

  • i like seeing how the crowd is at there shows they go and smoke out and have a good time i hope i get to here these guys in heaven that would be perfect world....

  • they are thee best band in the world this is my favorite performce of this song when that man yells man it drives me up the wall they rock!!!! if rock had a god it would be them

  • They pretty much always do an encore. (I'd say always, but I don't want to sound like an all-knowing prick when I'm not sure :P).

  • looove this song...but it pisses me off how dave just so dry lol thank you so much thanks so much BYE....lol i guess its cuz i feel like we are buddies cause his songs relate alot...but i definitely wish he would interact with the crowd more...still my favorite artist

  • After giving a performance like that I'm surprised he could still say anything. I think he wanted that song to be stuck in everybody's head. Kind of a good note to leave off on!

  • lol right i get you..but was it the last song?? idk

  • I mean he says "Bye" and walks off stage. It was unless they did an encore.

  • which they did

  • That's just amazing.

  • yep...they did a double encore...i watch this dvd of central park like 2-3x's a day when i chill w/that rainy day woman lol...

  • the cop dancing is the best part, RIP ROI

  • Rest in peace, Leroi Moore. You will be missed.

  • This song needs to comeback this year...Alpine hopefully! Love the emotion, always gives me chills!

  • butch kills the vibe there for about a minute halfway through the song

  • i disagree. It's not possible to kill the vibe from this song

  • In my opinion, it actually makes the song better. Honestly, I love the Butch's jam in this song. It's a shame he's gone...

  • Totally disagree! He makes that hammond sound faboulous with all the ghost notes and rock'n'roll harmonies! Love it!

  • dave sings with the most emotion ive ever seen...best live band of all time

  • You're right, he sings with more emotion than anyone. You can even hear it through the CDs

    Such a dancing nancy, huh?

  • yea man...he doesnt care about his vocal chords...and thats what its about leaving it all out there on every stage

  • no more butch :(

  • FIRE!!! FIRE!!!!!!!! FIRE!!!!!!!

  • thats the sickest part. i get chills when he keeps yelling it

  • yeahh butchhh jam out on that keyboard haha you are my neighbor how cool

  • Haha you are right it does...

  • great jam, one of the best they've ever made, in my opinion....

  • does anyone know why did dave screammed fire at the ending?

  • i like folsom field version better, both are great though

  • I wonder if it's any coincidence that Led Zeppelin used these same chords for the end of Stairway to heaven, the two songs get similar feelings from me...

  • My thoughts exactly

  • they're both used in a lot of songs, especially early spanish music on acoustic guitar, I think you mean Am G F, rite?

  • my god, this is definately my favorite version that theyve done live...im just wondering if theyre ever gonna do a studio version. lol

the way they all can get into the music so much is absolutely astounding and inspiring. definately some of the best musicians of the age!

  • FIREEEEEEE

  • i wonder why he screamed fire

  • The song lyrics are (possible) biblical references of chaos, destruction etc. The fire part fits.

  • probably cause there was a fire

  • his show in hartford was AMAZINGGG and i was in awe when they played this then and i am even more in awe now...

  • the cop at 36 is such a beast

  • greatest cop story ever,

Grateful dead concert in the sixties a cop took drugs then got naked and rode around on his horse haha

  • Lord have mercy. Amazing.

  • stefan does an amazing job on bass, carter is an insane drummer, LeRoi is doing a hell of a job with the sax, and boyd is amazing on the violin. These are the reasons that Dave Matthews is one of my all-time favorite bands.

  • oh man. if only dave wouldve slammed his guitar on the ground at the end and just walked off the stage...

he truly just conquered music with that performance. haha

  • i just love to watch how much fun they all have playing together
