No way any vfr stock will do more than 155 if your not moving you have no wind resistance.that said this is one gorgeous awesome machine quite simply. The best!
I have a 1984 vintage 1000ccc that does 180mph easily....for a moderned made bike....THIS IS WHAT A INTERCEPTOR should be!!! 170!!! makes me proud of honda still, plus the paint job mirroring the original (orig. pain on what i have anyway) isn't to damn shabby ether!! :D I also have a 1984 v45 sabre (orig.paint and photos in calenders LOL
For what? You can get a newer, lighter, more agile, and faster Yamaha R6s for $8500...
Now, it may be a 600cc, but it weights a lot less than this and that more than makes up for it. Also, this makes 96.6 WHP stock at the dyno. A Yamaha R6s makes 97 WHP stock even though it has a smaller engine.
The important thing here is that the Interceptor is NOT a supersport. I'll take my Interceptor over an R6 all day long. Because it's the one you're going to WANT to ride all day long.
Don't get me wrong, the R6 is a fantastic bike. But this is apples to oranges.
YEA so i would never take my bike to this dyno shop. first of all Fuel Injected bikes have no need to do an all gear run. its hard on the bike and give little usable data. all gears are for carb bikes and thats only to compare to a 4th gear roll on.
Cycle World recently reported that Honda told their dealerships to slash the MSRP of a new 07 model (this model, the 25th Anniversary Edition) to about $7900. So if you do get one you should likely be able to get a deal on it.
Thank I ended up buying a barely used (800 mi) 2007 Dark Candy Red for $6k. Love the bike, I've owned several Honda V4's and this is the best one yet.
I have both a VFR and an ST. The VFR is sport that can tour, and the ST is touring that's sporty. For just you, pick if you want sportier or more touring oriented (and the electrically adjustable windscreen on the ST). If you plan to do a lot 2-up, go with the ST. The VFR is best as a single rider that CAN carry a passenger if needed but a little small for a lot of 2up. I just got back from a 2500 round trip ride on the VFR to Deal's Gap and plan to put mine on the dyno in the near future.
By the way, the current Honda (US) web site lists the VFR at 540lbs dry, or 245 Kgs. Add another 30 lbs for fuel. 570lbs! What a porker. Granted a damn good looking one though.
Curb Weight540 pounds (Includes all standard equipment, required fluids and a full tank of fuel—ready to ride)
its not hard to hit 500lbs WET with 1/2+- tank and carbon exhaust, and some little bits and pieces here and there. center stand rear grab handles rear pegs. etc..
I owned a 2002 VFR800 US model which I sold with 8k miles on it. I began to work very hard after about 140mph. I never tested top end, but I would imagine that it would be hard pressed to get much over 150mph. The reason that I sold it was that it felt really heavy in the twisties. It's not really a good touring (uncomfortable) or sport bike (heavy). The Triumph Sprint ST is much better at both. Riding a Duc SS now and don't miss the Honda.
Note that weight has very little to do with top speed. It's more about power. The 800 has more torque than a 600, but since it doesn't rev as high, it's max power output is lower. On a long road, I would put my money on a well geared VFR over a 600 for top speed.
i have a question for you...how tall are you and how do you think someone who is 6'4'' would fit on the bike...because when i sit on something like a gsx-r, i look like im too big for the bike
Go sit on one, it's not a little bike and the pegs and handlebars are not racer replica. These V4's are really nice sport/sport touring bikes. Honda has a deal now on 08's on their web site. I can't say which is my favorite my 87 or my 08 but the 08 is fuel injected with a VTEC engine. The 87 is carburated with gear driven cams.
for your info my collection consist of 6 bikes, 74 CB550, 82 V45 Sabre, 83 V45 Sabre, 05 ZX6R, 06 250R, 07 VFR800
and i would take the VFR over anything else.
Slow My Ass.
and just how does an inline 4 sound better?
would like to see a video of the road rash your squidly ass is gonna have once you go down this year. since you probably wear shorts, a wife beater and fingerless gloves.
I agree entirely. You would not believe how many damned squids I see on GSXR1000s, CBRs, with NO helmets, in shorts, etc.
just last night at work I saw some dumbass riding with his PREGNANT wife, both wearing NO protection...just her being on a bike at this time is fucking retarted.
I just want to add this newest VFR is the best-looking of them all, a shame they threw out the gear-driven cams...they did not last, but they sounded devine.
@2007RC46SP2 I know this is an old clip, but how comfortable is VFR for someone over 6'3 and 260lbs? I was considering one of these, maybe one of the newer ones.
I'm pushing 6'2" and about 195, i also have fairly long legs and arms. I sat on this same year/model bike today and it felt great! my knees did not dig into the side of the fuel tank like they do on other street bikes I've taken a seat on. Seems like the folks at Honda built this model for guys like me. I recommend you call around your local bike shops to see if any of them have one in stock for you to try out.
@2007RC46SP2 you got my vote Im looking for an 800 and im considering snatching up the new CBR 250 Honda hit a home run with that little bike too. Also love the old CB 175's
ill give respect to harley's nice bikes, but way over priced, and to insult someone for like a motorcycle for performance over comfort is down right childish.
you're a fuckin' idiot. a good rider can out pace a guy on a full sportbike anyday on a VFR. don't make yourself look like a jackass while representing the Honda name.
Yep, got that right. My buddy had an '86 and '98 i think it was. He is the fastest and safest rider I've ever met and guys would go down behind him all the time on faster bikes. Hell, I rode a little old '85 VF500 and I had no trouble keeping up with 750s and 600s in the twisties.
Watch the video of Freddie Spencer on one at gis riding school... . These bikes can run with the best of them. By the way I have led many a sportbike through the turns on a 500 single. Buying a bike makes you a rider like buying a hammer nakes you a carpenter.
Guys the speedo is about 7% off with stock tires. Unless you have a yellowbox you're probably not doing 155. I believe 155 indicated, but that 150mph at best, maybe with a tailwind. 145mph is more likely at sea level. That said, I drafted a ZX-9 on a long 3 mile downhill with an indicated 164mph...with a tailwind, on the flats the most I've seen is an actual GPS 143mph...fast enough.
I have the 2002 VFR800FI 5 yrs old and oil changes new tires and brake pads has been all ive done to her, most reliable bike ive ever owned. the V-tec starts singing to me after 7000 rpm. sounds kewl..

I have a 2000 VFR800 and weigh 200 lbs. It never has to work hard to get up to 140mph. In fact i had it going 154 but I just took it up there and right down. I still had some to go until it pegged red in the RPM.

There is no wind resistance so that's why the top speed is higher than in a real world top speed run.
