  • the score is the best 310 to 140.

    the power of asians

  • GREAT now i have to search to find jmw1993's stupid comment

  • WTF

  • its a guy

  • I was once on this show as a contestant back in 1984. This episode probably aired in the same year from memory. Yes, SeekingOutTomorrow is right about the irony surrounding the Asian guy getting the answer...and are there are any more W3 excerpts on You Tube?

  • Actually, Asian is also a correct answer. It's not PC, but it is correct.

  • saturday night live couldn't have written that any better!

  • very very wong*

  • lol wud of been funny if the title was 'Young girl gets it very wong'

  • The question should've been: "When we refer to someone as 'GINGER' we consider them to be what?"

  • LOL

  • chinese people are southeast asian!

  • @MrEliLaLaLa There still part of the Asia Continent

  • The kid who got it right looks more southeast Asian than Chinese.

  • Thats a girl??

  • I still hear references to the "Yellow Menace" in American media, so the answer is true, even if offensive.

  • thats a boy.

  • and the other kid is chinese!! LOL!! couldn't be anymore perfect

  • Does she have a hangover?

  • thats what she said

  • Damn Romulans always get the answer right.

  • i love how the kid who got it wright was chinese. oh irony.

  • @gordface

    And you know this how?...

  • @gordface Firstly. It is "right" not "wright". Secondly, he is certainly Asian, but I doubt he is Chinese. If I had to wager a guess I would say something along the lines of Vietnamese. We have a lot of Japanese and Chinese people at my University, and exactly zero of them look like that kid. Some Asians are Chinese, but not all Asians are Chinese.

  • wow awkward lol. Bless both those kids though, i feel for both of them lol. There was no malice in it, the girl is young and probably just repeating something she heard someone say not realising the undertones. And bless the boy who probably knew the undertone of it and felt awkward.

  • that's ironic

  • Whats his name? Jerry thats not a very chinese name. Those silly tv people

  • @imthetopstoner I know right? Chinese people aren't called Jerry! Oh TV you nearly had me!

  • lol

  • OMG the yellow person got it rite!

  • Lmao! Awesome. Truely awesome.

  • chew it over with twix.

  • Ironic that the Asian boy then gets the right answer xD

  • What was the full question?

  • He's correct, if there was a reasonable amount of money involved in this and I was the kids parents I would of complained/ called a lawyer.

  • @BlueCosmology oh god, get a life...

  • lol it's a guy

  • awkward moment there.

  • call me stupid.... but why is the answer cowardly?

  • @Irvinthebest "Straight Dope believes the expression began as a medical term. Way back when, the human body was thought to have four distinct fluids -- blood, phlegm, black bile, and yellow bile. According to medieval medicine, yellow bile "made you peevish, choleric, irascible."

Also if you've ever watched one of the Back to the Future Movies (III?) then you'd know this.

  • @Irvinthebest Ever watched a Western or pirate movie and heard the term 'yellow-belly' or 'lily-livered'? They mean cowardly. I guess yellow has become a shortened version of yellow-belly.

  • Funny 'cos the opponents are Chinese! XD

  • I believe that's a boy. You know, the ones who are not girls. Idiot. Fucking brilliant though; I notice the only people who ever get offended by things like this are white (or pink at least) Chinese people don't seem to have their heads shoved up their arses (thanks to Mr. tiramisu327 for proving my point.)

  • @SpellboundSolution ? looks like a girl to me

  • @abillionguitars Believe me, that's a boy. You can also tell by the voice.

  • I wonder where that girl is now and if she ever thinks about this moment lol.

  • hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahaha lool

  • Girl.. Isn't that a guy??

  • LOL wtf

  • @bassman1993

    So was I

  • As soon as i heard the question, i giggled x)

  • @bassman1993

I'm not being funny either, but doesn't it rub you the wrong way when people think Candians and Americans or the same, or Japanes and Chinese people are the same?

What you're saying is exactly like that.

  • @juggggernaug it is NOT the same thing. Canada sucks. Japs and Chinese are equally "meh" lol

  • @faaaaq you're an idiot

  • How did he get it wrong? ... show is rigged...

  • That was kind of cute until the Asian kid answered correctly. That part was hilarious.

  • I would have said "Asian". I'm Asian. lol

  • Let's be realistic as an Asian I too would have answered Chinese. During that era and the present, majority of us would associate yellow people to the Chinese even now. Both Kids just had different interpretation of the Question. and AGAIN be realistic about it during that time not so much now the term yellow people was used a lot in the Movies. I got looked at as a yellow, shanty eye, ching chong go back to China when growing up. So personally i think both answers are right.

  • @dqcruz32 oops i meant slanty eyed not shanty eye

  • It's more of an insult to answer "cowardly" in this case.

She clearly did not want to insult the upstanding Asian child and picked a "wrong" answer on purpose.

  • haha wat a dumb girl she looks at the chinese person then see his color and goes 'chinese?' lmao

  • yellow means cowedly, such as "y'er belly is yella" its funny cause the kid was asian and knew what yellow meant in such event. its not funny to explain it.

  • I don't get it?

"..then we refer to someone as yellow, we consider them to be what?"

    She answered "Chinesse"

    He answer "Corwardly"

I think Corwardly mean a person who easyl get scared and often runs away?

But what the question about a color of a person?

  • @hugokalberykol Its like if we refer to someone as "blue" it means their sad or down. in a similar way "yellow" means cowardly or afraid.

  • It's a boy.. :/

  • that thing is a girl?! WTF!

  • proud to be a new zealander :)

  • What the hell is up with this kid's hair???

  • Bruce Springstein refers to asians as "Yellow man" in the song, " Born in the USA" .

Perhaps the girl got it wrong because she is a Boss fan.

  • haha its a boy you idiot

  • stupid yellow kid got it wrong

  • @254fds Then what's the answer?

  • classic.

  • haaahahaha

  • i'm chinese ... and i would've guessed chinese too

  • @tiramisu327 So are you some sort of Chinese Uncle tom?

  • My favorite part is when he/she says "erm chinese" and a chinese boy is sitting right next to him/her.

  • @snertok

no its when the chinese guy gets the question right

  • Love the fact that the kid who answered correctly is actually Asian (maybe a Chinese too). Lol.

  • naggers

  • I guess you could say she was wong.

  • Recently, the Asian school my daughter attends had a school celebration and honored the founder of the school. The school affectionately referred to him as 'big nosed' in the announcement. I told my daughter that the school was being somewhat racist. After discussing the issue, I realized that pointing out an extreme feature of a race is prejudical especially when it is applied to a general group of people that do not necessarily have that feature.

  • @flexorder how does that imply the school finds other races inferior to them

  • lmao

  • In the Chinese language, it is OK to refer to Asians as 'huangzhongren' which literally translated means yellow type people so I wonder why yellow in English became such a negative term since white and black are acceptable.

  • Comment removed

  • @flexorder Chinese hardly ever use this term "huangzhongren" (yellow middle person). 99% of the time, Chinese either use "huaren" 华人 (person of hua) or "zhonguoren" 中国人 (person from the middle kingdom).

  • @DanteShamest Compared to white白种人 and black 黑人, huangzhongren 黄种人is not commonly used but it does appear in conversation every once in a while especially when comparing races. Dongfangren is used more often. It is a real word in Chinese. A famous Hong Kong pop star even has a song named Huangzhongren so I do not think it is inappropriate to use the word. People would just find it strange that you used it instead the more common alternatives.

  • @DanteShamest Huang Zhong Ren translates to Yellow Race Person. Not Middle.

  • well, that was awkward...

  • Why is "yellow" racist, and "white" OK?

  • @saintsaens21 Because Caucasian doesn't flow off the tongue as well.

  • the best part was when it cut to the two asian kids

  • The kids answer was correct. She also could have said:

    1. Someone who is "yellow", meaning sallow.

    2. A "yellow" journalist.

    3. Someone "yellow" with jealousy.

She should have been awarded a point.

  • @Charnetzki Isnt jealousy green?

  • people are so sensitive. i don't care when people call me white.

  • I'm not even chinese and I found this video fantastic

  • I am Chinese...and I found this hilarious

  • so that's wrong??

  • Its yellow BELLIED he only said half the phrase

  • Cowardly? WTF? Chinese was the right answer.

  • "oh naggers, of course..."

  • lol awww man that messed up

  • Young BOY gets it very wrong.

  • I know my lolis and that is not one. That kid is a chap for sure.

  • What television show/year is this from?

  • @moralslinky It's from a New Zealand quiz show called W3 which aired in the 1980s

  • To a bunch of replies: Um, the kid who got it right might not be Chinese, he's probably Asian, but there are like tons of other possibilities for his ethnicity.

  • Gingers aren't human

  • its not her fault people told her that chinese people are yellow

  • I think this video should be called "Irony"

  • Lol! r eddit.com/r/videos/ u made my day again thnx!

  • fucking lol'd when the kid who got the answer right was chinese xD

  • Hm

  • Kids say the darndest things.

  • asians just win at everything

  • @misteri0s0 except in the male genitalia department

  • ROFL I'd have said the same....

  • wow and the Chinese kid gets it right!

  • Bahahahaha of all tha answers

  • How do you know the boy is Chinese?

  • uhhh chinese ?

  • GOLD

  • thats a girl?

  • haha, its how this cuts to the oriental contestant that completes the irony

  • We mustn't be too hard on her. I would like to think she was naive enough not to realise what she said might have actually been offensive. Not only to anyone watching but also to the other contestant.

  • aww that was kind of sad for that chinese kid, cuz he's like "hai, I just wants to play this game too, c'mon guis!"

  • that's definitely a lad

  • @MrPatrickFarrell

Earlier poster who has seen the whole show has confirmed she's a girl. Also, she's wearing a girls school uniform.

  • @rastusuk gay?

  • @MrPatrickFarrell FAIL!

  • thats a girl? you serious?

  • yellow? hahaha lol

  • Surely that's a boy (with the worst haircut I've ever seen). Easy mistake to make though, give the kid a break.

  • Australians are racist, we all knew it

  • @sirlancelot88

    They are New Zealanders

  • @rastusuk Oh I get it. So just because they're New Zealanders, THAT makes them racist?

  • @theblasto What? He didn't say that at all.

  • @j0010lesquish Yeah he was. He was saying that all New Zealanders are racist. And he only said that because he thinks black people think all New Zealanders are Australians, and he's offended by that. Even though he needs to accept that black people AND australians AND Asian people have a right to put old videos on the internet. Even if they ARE New Zealanders. Why did you even bring up black people anyhow? Are you singling them out? Racist much? Jesus.

  • @theblasto Where did he say anything about black people or New Zealanders being racist? Quote please?

  • @j0010lesquish Woah, excuse me. "Black people"? Seriously?? As if they're different from "People"? You're even more racist than I thought. And I don't need to give quotes to someone who goes on long rants about how Neo-Nazis are different now and really need a second look. That's just hate speech man. I'm not getting into that.

Also, "Quote please." is a statement, not a question.

  • @theblasto Wow, look it up: saying 'black people' is not derogatory or racist in any way. It's not saying they're different from people, it's just a particular characteristic about those people. Rather like saying 'blonde haired people'. I want a quote just because I want to see what he has said that is racist, because I haven't seen anything. I doubt he has been racist, because you accused me of being racist when I wasn't.

  • @theblasto "Also, "Quote please." is a statement, not a question."

It doesn't matter, this is the internet, who cares about complete accuracy when typing fast? I was using it as a shortening of "Can I have a quote please?". Grow up.

  • @j0010lesquish You'll be grown when you can type properly and not reduce the English language to an ambiguous slew of sloppy convenience.

  • @j0010lesquish Man, I can't do this any more. You know I've been dicking around with you right?

  • @theblasto Oh dear... looking back at all the comments, it should have been obvious. Good job on trolling me, I tip my hat to you.

  • @rastusuk

yea, like he said. they're racists.

  • @rastusuk They're like, "wheh's th' cah" and we're like "wheh's th' cah"

  • @rastusuk They're definitely canadians....

  • @rastusuk lol its funny readin the comments. I'm like, "I wonder what people gotta say bout this" then I look and see 2 ppl wrong in a row and corrected lol.

  • @rastusuk Close enough

  • @sirlancelot88 I'm Asian. Referencing someone's skin color(black, white, yellow, red) isn't racist. Using stereotypes is.

  • @sirlancelot88 Yes. You're getting us confused with New Zelanders. They're the racists.

    Don't worry. It's a common mistake.

  • wow lol i thought this was stupid next thing i know theres an asian next LMFAO

  • Everyone saying it is actually a boy, you are wrong. Go watch the extended version, the guy that asks the questions said "Yes, Caroline" when she buzzed on the question after this one. Or it is a boy, that looks like a girl, and is called Caroline... lol

  • LOL SO HARD WHEN OTHER KID WAS CHINESE BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • @hola4adola i know, there's two punch lines, its brilliant XD

  • Is this Jan Terri as a kid?

  • That kid must have racist parents.

  • you guys know this "girl" is actually a little boy ae?

  • another example of institutionalized white upbringing by the white parents in a very white surrounding inside a very white bubble

i feel bad for the kid

  • Its a boy not a girl.

  • the yellow kid got the answer right yellow people are so smart

  • yellow, black , white, are different types of pigmentation in ethic groups. So if thats the case better no asian (yellow) call another ethic group white or black

  • ITs a boy

  • The correct answer is "Japanese".

  • .......my jaw just dropped....

  • I bet that kid felt odd after that

  • Technically this kid is right. I mean, that is an existing descriptor (albeit one with racist tones) for Chinese people. Besides, when was the last time you heard someone call a coward "yellow"? The Wild West?

  • If someone says, "look at that yellow kid on tv", I immediately look for a Chinese kid on tv. Not for a cowardly kid.

    Ginger was correct.

  • whats wrong she gave the right answer

  • @celticgerman to a racist he/she gave the right answer....

    racists : yellow(cowards) ..thats correct.

  • @RHYMePRIMe but the original meaning is chinese thats were thay get it from i know its racist but once it was true

  • I just love this video for the Irony. =]

  • lol

  • not racist of her, but ironic and funny nonetheless xD

  • lol... that's a boy not a girl like Beiber
