  • rock out!!!!

  • That's is the sexiest jacket that I've seen Jack wear. And I'm a dude. I wanna look as sexy as him. Lol!

  • what concert is this?

  • meg is hot in that hat

  • @smarterthanyou9999 his whammy pedal is set an octave down

  • @smarterthanyou9999 Buy a whammy pedal and create the sound yourself.

  • Sounds creepy without bass

  • @SirWookash He never plays it with a bass...

  • @HeyDawsonJ I know, but the studio version is played with a bass

  • @SirWookash No it isn't.

  • @andyscoot43 Maybe It isn't a bass, but the main riff is played during the entire song. In live version ii isn't played during entire song

  • @SirWookash stupid fuck....NO BASS

  • @SirWookash ther NEVER was a bass in this song!!!!!!!

  • White Stripes get so much better when you understand what guitars Jake White is playing.

  • @superduprdan Jake? Really?? I hope you just mistyped that.

  • Probably the greatest riff of the past 20 years next to Teen Spirit.

  • I LOVE the way Meg raises her stick all the way above her head at the end - she's so awesome...

  • I'm getting a archtop guitar :P

  • Wow. One of their best performances ever! They are truly the most talented band I have ever seen.

  • yo what year was this?

  • I HAVE ONE OF THOSE GUITARS! whoo!.

  • the best

  • how does he get that sound?

  • @n1ckleo whammy pedal

  • Comment removed

  • Probably the most unique and original band ever.

  • why does meg always look like she's falling asleep lool :)

  • @greenshoes43 - i like it :)

  • They kickass, they can wear what they want!!!

  • it might be cold? but i'm not sure about where they are performing

  • una palabra....

    EXCELENTE!

  • I really doubt he screwed up the lyrics. He's a master at improvisation, which is constantly the case at his live performances.

  • <3 Brilliant listen to the dead weather

  • anyone know what hes saying at the start of the 2nd verse?

  • sounds like, dont wanna hear about it.. but I dunno

  • Don't wanna hear about it, every single one has got a stoty to tell.

  • Where was this?

  • what the fuck!!!! i love white stripes!!!!

    Jack "the ripper" White baby!!!!

  • Rock and Roll the meaning:

    -react

    -penis position opinion (marriage rank)

  • ive seen you comment this on like 10 videos, i dont get it haha

  • Meg ...knows where the one' is.

  • is meg wearing shorts or white pants?

  • 2:47 glen campbell

  • lol he messed the words up a bit 1:22 "dont want to hear and everybodys singers got a store to tell"

  • prolly did it on purpose. He changes words often...

  • I like jacks fender better

  • ive never seen jack play a fender

  • yea... bc he has one... minus the one he plays with lorreta lyn... or however you spell her name...

  • This is old, watched this live when I was like 13 probably, great show.

  • And how old are you now?

  • I'm 16 now

  • i like this version. but i think for the grammys he should of pulled out a better guitar instead of the death letter guitar

  • well..its also the "Seven Nation Army" guitar..

  • TURN THIS UP!

  • I love this solo ..

  • listen to the live performances of a song like black math.... Sounds just crazy cool with just 2 people playing!

  • i think that's why they're so much fun to listen to. They have the freedom to do whatever they want. They don't even make setlists.

  • They don't even make setlists??!?!??!?! Wow, that's hardcore.

  • Yeah of course they dont. The stage lights and camermen really dont know whats going to happen.

  • He didn't mess the solo up at all. The recording has the chorus riff playing in the background while he plays it, but obviously it's impossible to do that live without another guitarist, so thats why it sounds different. Personally I like it both ways.

  • Might be one of the most unique and greatest band ever...

I pretty much learned guitar from playing white stripes songs.

  • Alot of the mindless Pussycatolls loving teens in the front row dont realise the greatness they are witnessing. Jack is uses 1950s Kay Archtop with a metal slide to brings the blues alive in the performance

  • Too much sound is missing from the tonal spectrum when he plays lead. They would be more fulfilling live if they added another musician but it is interesting to watch them pull off their songs by themselves.

  • yeah this guys are good

they are different and that is what a make great

but they need a bassist all

the guitar can be played with a bass

and the guitar could make a riff that adds

    style to the song

    but they are simply

    a power pair!

  • seeing them play a single song for an awards show doesn't do them justice...

  • i love it how people talk shit about live performences and how they suck or sound diff but thats how its supposed 2 be thats what makes it so great 2 see a band live. like the gay fag that said the solo messed it up. lol ur fucking stupid!

  • um this is a good song but his gatrar solo total messed it up...

  • he didnt mess up the solo at all! it sounded pretty much as on the album recording!

  • I thought it was pretty good personally

  • it just sounds different because hes using a slide

  • Jack has always used a slide for this song. Even the recorded version he used a slide

  • If this is one of their best performances, I can't figure out what the others would sound like.

She definitely can't play. And his solo is barely amateurish.

  • I bet your the greatest at drums... and guitar

I don't think they trying to be the greatest, but trying to make original music. So simple but great.

  • some of the dudes guitar solos aren't "so simple"

  • who said there's anything wrong with simple solos? some of the best solos in music are easy as hell. simple, but damn effective.

  • I agree. It is more important to serve the song than it is to try to display some eminent guitar playing. He is simply secure with himself that he doesn't need to make his songs too convoluted :)

  • wtf guitar is he playing?

  • wow crazy acoustic guitar he's playing, at least that's what I think it is. Great sound. Great song. I love how insane he is.

  • Electro-Acoustic played through bass amps with various pedals :)

  • bass amps you say?.. hmmph. had no idea. haette keine Ahnung. very cool to know

  • nope. not bass amps. two silvertone 1485 guitar amplifiers. he uses a couple different octave petals.

  • as well as a big-muff pedal, probs the most versatile modern fuzz pedal ever!

  • i own a big muff and its not versatile at all. ya just gotta tame the beast

  • it is versatile, but you are right, you have gotta learn how to use it 'cos it is a pretty specific sound. but hey, it's all just down to personal opinion.

  • Actually I take that back. In terms of versatility it is great. I've used it from everything from garage rock to latin/ afro carib fusion. In terms of actual tone versatility, you're essentially getting the same sound no matter where you turn the knob, as opposed to like a fuzz factory etc.

  • that is true. Stangely enough, the most versatile fuzz i've used is a behringer!

  • Twin Reverb on this performance

  • 2:35

extreme close up of Meg's feet on the jumbotrons.

  • Your vid is pristine thanks.

  • me too I can't forget...damn I can' leave it alone though not yet

  • I know where Syd Barret lives. He lives in Jack White

  • That was hands down the best comment I have read in probably 20 video posts +Thumbs Up

  • who's comment is? :P

  • classicmill, His comment made my day when I had read it

    =P

  • @classicmill That´s almost poetic ;)

  • amazinggggg

  • Best musicians to that ever lived: Beethoven/Jack White

  • Meg is definitely a minga!

  • its amazing that only two people can do such a great performance

  • I'm not "son" but I'll butt in :) It's true, Jack hits some clunkers here and "goes with it" and it seems shoddy rather than creative, but all in all, I believe they sound far better live than in studio. Same with Red Hot Chili Peppers. Curious, what are bands with great live performances in your opinion?

  • i dont even WANT to here the excact same song at a live concert... Then u could just listen to a cd..

this is waaaay cooler, jack makes every concert different, not 1 sounds the same !!

just watch the vid of them at the grammy awards!

  • S'true.. I've become fonder of this version as I've given it more listens. Right now I am on a "Hardest Button to Button" trail.. anyone with their favorite versions to recommend?

  • i could reccomend almost every song of them @ blackpool!

jolene, black math, death letter, hotel yorba...

i like the, fell in love with a girl, version @ david letterman too...

  • and Blue Orchid (live From The Basement) ball and biscuit live @ basement

  • check out the cover tunes he's done....i have a bunch on my channel....."Hand Springs" is the fucking jam, ashtray heart...

  • sadly, lol you are funny or nuts man, who sais you need to improvise on stage to be that good, let alone for 20 mins, Led is awesome and Stripes are cool but I won't even comment on these 2 bands in the same comment.

  • too different? two different times. two different styles. two different sound. I guess you're right... We can't compare a revolutionary band to a great band today! Both bands are great!

  • Yeah, sorry for calling you nuts, didn't mean it in a bad way.

  • in White Stripes concerts, 25-50% is like improvisation

  • In your mom's bed it's like, 100%-200% improvisation

  • the sound is different than the studio-version sound...but thats normal.

there a´re just a few bands or artist, who have a studio sound on stge. for example lenny kravitz. i saw him live last year and this was a real GREAT performance.

  • Anyone who would actually put "666" in their username is enough of a tool that they shouldn't ever be allowed to express opinion.

  • lol you are an idiot

  • check out there version of this at bonnaroo. wow

  • He's really holding back in the performance, imo. I really prefer the Seven Nation Army/Death Letter duo done at the Grammys. He cuts loose like crazy with his voice and his instruments.

  • yeh same, very good tho

  • they both sound genuinely talented

  • white stripes was number 12 in q magazine's 50 bands you have to see live before you die.

    love it <3

  • who was number one?(i think white stripes deserved #1)

  • ac/dc. but yeah i agree.

the white stripes will forever be my #1

  • No Oingo Boingo deserves #1 don't get me wrong the stripes are awesome but nothing beats a high energy Oingo concert.

  • realemente no sabeis lo que es la buena musica yo hace poco he conocido a este tio Jack white y me parece increible.!

  • its not supposed to be exactly like the studio recording

thats y u pay to see the concert

  • my bad he doesnt use a pedal at the solo, its just a different sound because hes using his bottleneck for the solo

  • he does the solo with hid digitech whammy 4

  • perfect performance...:)

  • white is god!

  • True.

  • this is definately the best version of this song ever !!! this rocks even more than on under blackpool lights

  • love the glen campbell reference

  • Well now Imita01, I like the Black Keys too. They are freaking awesome. Yes the drummer is better for them. Still, Better doesnt mean everything. Whatever- Point is The White Stripes are still better, Jack White is the reason. Jack is better than the Black Keys and you can't deny, like i said i love the black keys too. Jack is the best of our time , no one comes close. Rock on Jack and Black Keys.

  • wow is meg hitting the kick drum barefoot?

  • i think the black keys are better, since patrick carney is a better drummer than meg white could ever be. the guitarists are close even though jack is better. and YES, i do not give a sill fuck about what any of you have to say about it. it's just my opinion

  • Great live version but what's up with the solo after "find a home", on the studio version this is my favorite part but live it's awful, don't understand :s

  • The reason the solo is different live is because he doesn't use any help. On the album, there are two guitars. Live, there is only one, so he has to play the solo by itself, so there is no real backing, which makes it sound naked. However, I think it rocks.

  • what solo?

there is no solo, the main riff just changes in distortion.

  • not really, theres is a bit of a solo

  • do u know how he gets that shaky tremelo sound when he solos?

  • not sure he might use a pedal

  • well if u look very carefully its not this guitar i dont think but if u look at the bridge of the guitar he has a slab of wood across the bridge i thought it was crazy and awesome!

  • He is great guitarist!!

    I love it!:)

  • i love this acoustic version

  • accoustic ? allright the guitar doesn't look like an electric one, but the modelizer is pretty electric :p

  • haha i was joking

  • oh yeah xD sorry man =p

  • Are you serious?

  • Tee hee! Look at his skinny little legs! Love this song and the White Stripes. Simply legendary.

  • i so want meg's hat right now. ;)

  • I've seen lots of Jack White live footage, and is it just my crappy hearing, or does he change the lyrics to his songs every now and then?

  • Yeah, I think he does ;D heha

  • yup, he says in a couple of his interviews that he likes changing it up for every concert to keep it fresh for every show he plays.

  • A drunk musician, get the hell out of here! No way that ever happens lol!!

  • Yeah, wait 'til lemmy hears about this!

  • Meg deosa the most simple druming but the guitar is mad

  • i luv the guiar in this song. so catchy! brilliant band

  • I love Meg's hat.

  • Yeah the muff on her head too is fine.

  • at 1:25 he gets the words muddled up. Well done to him for getting through. it shows he's a real person, not a plastic westlife member.

  • His voice is sooo great! Rock`n Roll to everybody!

And great guitar playing as always. Minimal and effective! A band in it`s own league!

    Twang cheers!

    Ralf Kilauea

  • aparently they were in a white mood that night

  • Does anybody no the follwoing: place, event and date of this performance.

  • MTV Europe Music Awards 2001 Frankfurt am Main (Germany), Festhalle (Ali G alias Sacha Baron Cohen)

  • It's 2003 or 2004 but definitely not 2001!

  • The white stripes is the perfect band, if u add another instrument it will ruin the band. I hate all those people who thinks it would be better with a little more complicated drumming and more guitars and a bass. But it wouldnt be the same you morons. I have seen them live 2 times, awesome, the best live band there is!!

  • jack isnt jack without meg

  • What is the name of this song?

  • if u mean the name of the second song, its death letter, from the 2nd cd of the white stripes

  • she's a pure good drummer !!

  • Nice pants.
