This is a fantastic interview. She clearly understands the man and his work and asks some genuinely personal questions. I get the impression that he respects her for that.
"and quite a lot of the poeple end up dead?" duh isn't that what he just said in a far more eloquent manner, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt she's starstruck bless her.
Fantastic interview; intelligent questions - I just wish it were longer. I didn't know he had a breakdown as recent as that. I did notice how skinny he looked.
I've not actually read ANY of his work - I've watched L.A Confidential - but having heard of this man, I decided to check him out on YouTube. He really is a terrificly interesting, watchable man. I could listen to him all day. Theres a video of him on a TV chat show on here - It's hilarious !! check it out.
It's worth reading some his novels. Black Daliah for example is a great read. He manages to get inside the dark heart of humanity like no one else. And the story lines are complex but very engaging. I will check the TV show feature you recommended - do you have a link address?
Hi. I will definitely pick up one of his books. I favourited the video, so just click on my name and search my 'favourites' (or look for 'James Ellroy inteview 1997'). I had never heard of the man until I recently read a small Dail Mail article about him being on BBC radio's Desert Island Discs. Apparently it was one of the best interviews (haven't heard it yet). Anyway, the video shows a completely different side to James Ellroy's character - couldn't be more different to what we see here.
Sorry that was the complete interview as broadcast on the culture show. That said, they sometimes provide extras on their website. Thanks for replying.

Good to see an interview by someone who properly gets him. Like he said, only women will properly get Blood's a Rover.

don't get the bad reviews of the cold six thousand - it's an awesome tour de force.

Thanks for the advice. I must admit I haven't read any reviews yet. Sometimes a bad review is a good sign in my books.
