Interestingly, EVERYONE seems to hate the gritty reboots of Bionic Commando and Bomberman. They were even included in Screwattack's Top 10 Worst Reboots and Remakes list. (Bomberman: Act Zero was #2, losing only to Space Raiders, a gritty reboot of Space Invaders that takes so many cues to creating a gritty reboot that it almost looks like a satire of a gritty reboot.)

Still, I like to think of the Wii as the Gamecube bundled with Power Glove. It's unlike Nintendo to have the weakest console on the market. Case in point:
They would have dropped out of the console run completely if they kept with the "Same as last generation, but better graphics" philosophy that fueled them and their competitors since the dawn of gaming. Sony and Microsoft were destroying them, so Nintendo had to do something clever--cheaper console, advertise it as a system for the family instead of the "stereotypical" gamer, and a new, easy-to-use control interface. It worked, and it's probably for the better.
@MrHippobu I think the PS1 and the Sega Saturn were 32-bit, while the N64 was (unsurprisingly) 64-bit. So yes, the N64 was the most powerful console on the market. And even before then was the 64-bit Atari Jaguar. And we all know how well that did.
Great graphics, great story and subplots, always long gameplay, great original idea, always introduces somethign new in every game and has no shame in showing colour, variety, technique and gameplay modifications in al aspects. BRILLIANT!!

Each and every time get the chance to play an absolute gem, it's guaranteed this same game will be getting slated left and right. Gamers now see challenge as an offensive word, learning is taboo. There are so few games these days which actually make use of the amazing hardware we have now to go completely nuts with play mechanics and purely fun ideas.
I can't watch brown games cause they put me to sleep faster than waiting for a 15k frame animation of a 23K poly curtain blowing with particle effects in a dirty window with spectular in 3DSMax. fyi: that can be up to 20 minutes a frame on a crappy school computer.

In the defense of Halo, at least it's a wildly popular COLORFUL game. Thing can definitely be said about the characterization, but it's definitely shown at the very least that it's possible to make non-brown games that appeal to 'hardcore' gamers. The main character is green, in multiplayer you can be anywhere between blue, cyan, orange, pink, etc. The aliens wear every color of the rainbow and there's a ton of purple and neon lights all over the place.

Maybe you're a soldier in Iraq or whatever, but you get transplanted to a fantasy land and fight werewolves with a machine gun, or better yet, a ray gun. That lead to some people saying the Wii was just two gamecubes taped together, power wise.

In the defense of Halo, at least it's a wildly popular COLORFUL game. Thing can definitely be said about the characterization, but it's definitely shown at the very least that it's possible to make non-brown games that appeal to 'hardcore' gamers. The main character is green, in multiplayer you can be anywhere between blue, cyan, orange, pink, etc. The aliens wear every color of the rainbow and there's a ton of purple and neon lights all over the place.

@SebastianSB In defense of the FPS in general, yes they are mostly grey-brown games that take place in unspecifiedistan, but they're good time killers and there ARE some amazing ones. Deus Ex? How about Metroid Prime? Those were good. Honestly I think it's not the first person shooters that need to go away, its the Modern War games or space marine games.

First off, No More Heroes is good in concept, but plays like balls. Link's emo phase = Twilight Princess, also shit. I looked up the "Overthinker" because I wanted to see someone actually intelligently discuss videogames. Instead I just get another nerd rage video, except one that uses "big words" (maybe if you're still in grade school those are big). Some valid points though. Also, never imply anything bad about MGS, I will end you. That is all.

Really, I hate the direction most current generation games, but you complain that people disregard entire facets of the medium in one breath and in the next complain about large facets of the medium.
It really just makes you sound like a butthurt nerd (I say this as a nerd) who can't get over the fact that his medium is going mainstream.

The Game Overthinker could not be more right. I am so sick and tire of brown and grey being the norm in both backgrounds, foregrounds and characters of video games these days. Developers need to take some lessons from Nintendo and lighten up a bit.

Who is "we"? "Hardcore" gamers? You said in your other post that people only want to play "realistic" games like GTA IV. The sales of the Wii/DS and the first party titles for those systems, and the explosion of off the wall and sometimes cartoony indy games say that is utter bullshit.
There's room for all types of games and all types of gamers, not just FPS's and GTA clones.

Though I don't have the game, I have heard a lot about the Nazi Zombie mode of Call of Duty: World at War, in which you not only shoot Nazi zombies, but you can shoot them with a ray gun! I would hope that the next Call of Duty game would just go all out and splurge in the ridiculous. Maybe you're a soldier in Iraq or whatever, but you get transplanted to a fantasy land and fight werewolves with a machine gun, or better yet, a ray gun. (Seriously, there should be more games with werewolves.)

I agree with a lot of your poins about games trying to be something they aren't is how i put it. If i wanted to play a realistic war game i'd go join the fucking army. We play games not for realism but to do things that we could NEVER do in the real realm. Companies need to get back to what gaming is all about. Unrealistic FUN. I'm sick of FPS. PC early 00s. its a "monsters invation story" and there are the monsters. ok, pretty standard so far. but hold on, in THIS verision they are a developed nation called the combine who enslaves humanity, they have a giant tower and with them they have giant long legged things. and a bunch of headcrabs that eat peoples faces and turns them into zombies. and who's gonna fight them all, a space marine? no, Gordon Freeman, a scientist with a goatee and a crowbar!
