attacks depending on environment would be a negtive because one game would come out that dose that and but have a negative effect(fire is weakened by water levels) fans will complain if they like that fire version of that character but lose because they are weakened by that one or two levels you'll see lots of fan complaining about "oh well it's a great game expect for this" and in the next game to please them they will drop it.

Usable environments would be good but I can see too many glitch abusers since i know there would be some animations that would need to be invincible. Damaging body parts is partly covered by the armor breaking system of SC4 but it could be taken further like you want it(I.E. if ken keeps blocking in street fighter, since he blocks with his arms, he can't do a flaming hi punch Shoryuken)

I am less optimistic there. Armor choices are a nice idea, which could probably be made great use of. But I'd expect more nowadays. Let's talk: -free choice of weapons -hit locations & -damage effects (disabled body parts, limping, etc. -usable environments (think: Jackie Chan) -attacks depending on environment -weapon attacks colliding with each other (not only by blocking) -etc. Technologically, we could now have games that resemble our favorite martial arts movie scenes.

Kof 12 gose for something like the colliding system no weapon fighter I've seen has done that so far. Free choice of weapons I'm not so sure about maybe a wider selection of weapons per character(Tira from SC using a knife or two and other agile weapons of the sort maybe even Talim's bladed Tonfa in a different more sneaky evil way)

blazblue is something sort of new and you can always get a few 2D fighter creator program and make your own from scatch it's what I'm doing. Soul Calibur has brought something sort of new by being a 3D weapon fighter and the only good inventive weapons fighter before blazblue and the armor shatter system in the new one is something. Remember Bloody Roar? that disappered could you imagine how amazing the animal forms would look like on an HDTV and the possibility? e

Blazblue looks like a great game.

But has the same flaw as the Guilty Gears series had - Too few chars!

I'm picky with chars I enjoy playing. Design and moves have to thrill me. No char for me in Blazblue (nor in GG).

Also, this and the other games you mentioned are all good...but only SC 3&4 brought substantial change to the genre (char creation). Eventually I'm all alone with my expectations, but I want a fighting game to play like a good martial arts movie. Usable environment, etc.

KOF is the biggest disappointment when it comes to few characters with only one sorta new character(Raiden,mexican wrestler that dose grabs alot like another game, he's been in other SNK games but not KOF) and 11 old fighters. Your not alone SF4 only had me because of it's truly new characters which all I love in a certain way.

Bloody Roar certainly had an interesting concept.

As did a couple other older games.

Let me name a few games which had brilliant concepts that were never expanded on (Maybe you know some of them. If not I'd suggest looking them up on youtube. You seem to appreciate good "older" games.)

- Bushido Blade 2 (explorable stages, realistic hit-locational damage i.e. 1-hit-kills possible)

- Destrega (mix of shooter and fighter, bigger stages)

- Ehrgeiz (Interesting stages)

Were all for PS1.

Bushido was alright but square is too stuck up their own asses mainly because new franchises like that almost got them axed and since their merger witht Enix and now the buy out of Eidos I believe we won't see them go back to it.

Destrega is made by koei which is the main problem with them cranking out "(blank) warrior" games that sell(for some reason) won't go back to it

Only reason I would say for Ehrgeiz would be a great series to continue and they could bring in Enix & Edios character.
