@alkleiza1995 i'd say he fast picked the shit out of him, steve vai played mostly legato and went crazy with wah not as amazing as we all know he usually plays
seen he was playing keyboards for steve vai on a g3 tour, he was probably the best guitarist there, just amazing, and listen to him play classical piano, his first album edge of insanity rocks, the first song i heard from him was birds of prey, a 45 out of a guitar mag, someone put in on tape, we all thought it was malmsteen, cool stuff
@ndonato2 well it could most likely be a carvin, that what i thought too but it looks jus t a bit to sharp,so maybe custom headstock for him,or another brand idk?

Shrapnel is around, as was said, because I have Paul Gilbert's 2008 album Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar, and it clearly says "Shrapnel Records" with the little tank on the case and CD.
It would be nice to see another Tony album without that crappy Steve.
bonne technique mais j'trouve ca pas super musicalement... non pas que je fasse mieux loin de la, mais j'trouve pas ca agréable a écouter... bref j'aime pas trop...
This really isn't garden variety shred. I mean, the guy modulates through A minor, F# minor, G minor, E major...I'm not surprised he ended up in jazz/fusion. He obviously wanted to do more than linear E phrygian/major crap like everybody else.
This is a pure early mid to late 90's macalpine SONG, with the guitar functioning as a singer. I expect within 2009 he will drop a new solo album or a couple of prpject albums (ie, devil's slingshot and cab).
yeah,I think you're right; in the 90's he started putting out more fusion/progressive oriented records like premonition, evolution, and violent machine. Plus his guitar and clothes look like what he had on the cover of
very nice song, it sounds a bit like a f zero or a megaman song, wich is great cause i love videogame music, too bad he didnt recorded a studio version of this song
I like them both! But it usually seems like the jazz fusion players are just a step ahead of their instrumental-rock peers. Guthrie Govan, Shawn Lane, Howe.. all amazing! I love Tony too
try not to be rude about other folks music tastes? Hah, that is a good one. What is this, A Christian Well Being Group? I take this stuff seriously because when I was 16 I thought it would be a good idea to go to the Edge Of Insanity. Folk need to told if they're a laughing stock. If you really want to check out phenomenal technique try some Heifetz -although the Pagannini stuff is about as lightweight as Mr McAlpine.
Checked my albums and cant find it anywhere, but as mentioned in the detailed info for this video, Tony apparently recorded this for some instructional video only. The sound is like on the "Freedom to Fly" album, though :-)
ppl refer to him as a shredder a lot, sometimes derogatorily. although the negative connotations apply to some ' shredders, ' i think that that term is often just a way for less able musicians to feel superior to some truly talented ones.

I'm sorry, but if you're going to play with a band and have it appear to be a live performance, don't use a backing track. Yea, he's a great guitarist and the solos are awesome, but the use of the backing track implies that he's not actual performing the song here.
Man, this is why Tony gets it. Having grown up with a piano, he has a sense of harmony that is just top drawer, and from all the classical he studied, he is just DIRTY with his melodies. Like Satch, he knows how to format an instrumental song. It emphasizes a strong melody, without bogging it down with too many fills or added notes -- that's a conservatism found more often in Jazz than 80s shred. And as far as I know, T-Mac never put this on a record.
well considering the fact that they were basically around at the same time that does not surprise me. I think Macalpine is more interesting at improvising though, he may not have satch's tone, but he plays piano as well, so his melodic and harmonic knowledge is far superior to satch's.

Nice. But I don't know...he's not rhitmically very strong, sometimes he just sounds out of the groove a little bit, and he's too stuck in the shred licks, they doesn't flow naturally like in Shawn Lane or Eric Johnson or Steve Morse playing, just to quote three of the greatest in my opinion. And well, I got to say I absolutely don't like the song!
I'm italian, and although I can speak in english and understand it well sometimes a mistake can happen. Easy going dude. And just to let you know that you spelled "Dillinger" wrong.
