  • I miss his white tuxedos, heh.

  • Hi.

  • are they applauding him for his fame or actual talent? it's so ironic because he doesn't even play well anymore

  • is that Fazioli ??

  • Kissen was probably trying ti get out of there as quickly as possible - the 'Minute Waltz' - come on he just thought I'll bang this out and they'll clap like seals and I can go home.

  • I'm pretty sure this is one of the umpteenth encores Kissin always gives at concerts, which, would explain why he's not being super precise, and is playing around with the tempos. He's just letting himself have some fun - it's not supposed to be recorded

  • seemed kind of forced, lacked grace on this performance.

  • I have listened to both Kempff's. I consider the younger Kempff better than the elder. Kissin is head and shoulders above them in my opinion. I think the forward and backward motion may help with developing crescendo's and decrescendos. That's just my guess. Regardless, he is the best in my opinion. Every time someone suggests someone else, I listen to them. I still haven't found anyone to impress me like Evgeny Kissin.

  • not even Barenboim? I think hes awesome

  • barenboim does this effortlessly as well he is so fluid and enjoyable to listen to

  • BUT, as a big fan of Kissin's Rach interpretations, i had to force myself to give kempff95 a thumbs up for his comment. I am perplexed as to why Kissin played this piece with sooo much rubato and with a sort of "back-and-forth" sea-sick character. What a surprise, as this is a recent performance, not a performance of an immature 20 years ago. Hmmph.

Hate my comment if you wish, i'm just thinking out loud.

    Katheryne

  • Putting aside others comments about his rocking back & forth like a mental patient (lol), it is still more important to focus on sound production and musicality. Come on folks, Glenn Gould who was more than a bit eccentric, played with his shoulders & face pretty much on the keys, and even sung along with his own playing; nevertheless a master with glorious technique, fluidity, & his own musicalitylike Kissin, Kempff, & Gouldaeach unique.

    continued...

  • too much rubato!

  • Indeed this interpretation is way to much rubato, it makes it really lose that feel.

  • @kempff95 You only have a minute.

  • Awesome playing by a god of the piano! Bravo!

  • WOW!!!!!!!

  • he does have high skill, no doubt, just lacks musicality a lot, almost because it seems too easy for him to play. also he is rocking forwards and backwards like a mental patient. to top things off, he almost broke the piano at the end, the technician must have been pissed !

  • Of Course he has SKILLS. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO EVGENY KISSIN IS?????

HE IS ONE OF THE YOUNGEST GREATEST GODS OF PIANO IN THIS CENTURY!!!!!!

Check out more videos of him here in youtube. He is amazing....unbelievable technique but even more impressive musicality and touch sensitivity. If you hear him live you'll be mesmerized at how he brings out different colors and sounds out of the piano.

I think I was at this concert. It looks like the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami. Anyone knows?

  • chrisbx1975x-One of the three or four greatest living classical pianists. Possibly only second to the phenomenal Argentinian Martha Argerich.

  • he is rocking forwards and backwards like a mental patient LOL... who told you he is normal, i dont think it is "like a mental patient", he actually abnormal LOL

  • you seem you are an ignorant not only in music but also in life. this is by far one of the greatest pianists that ever lived. he owns the area of musicality check his version of Chopin, Valse n°7 Op. 64 N°2 to see what i mean. also you should know that when ur recording by a personal camera its the image and SOUND quality is very different from what is real

  • hate how fuckin youtube kills the vid every time i haf to type a code to continue commenting

anyways, i dont like evgeny's rubato. very poor. go see Bunin

  • i played that, but now i am depressed

  • wow now THAT's body speech xD

  • have you noticed all the amazing pianists sway like that? Anyway, BRAVO

  • They sway like that to hold the beat...

  • probably

  • ahahahahah... NO.

  • Really? 'Cause I sway with the dynamics (volume if you're not familiar with playin) : leaning in and pushing my body away with my whole arm for loud notes and such...

  • It looks like he's having an orgasim! lol

  • very cool..!

  • c'ero anch io!!

    eccezionale come sempre

  • flight of bee is harder than this. Try Rach version though, if you can nail that, your ready for the revolutionary Etude, they are about the same in difficulty.

  • How about the Cziffra version of the Bumblebee Flight? It's quite insane.

  • No ty. I don't care for that guy, he transcribed an impossible piece of music.

  • now, play the cziffra bumblebee, and u r a piano god

  • Your Comment is disrepectful. Obviously you have no musical talent or education yaco89120 You're a prick.

  • i agree. that is completely rude and disrespectful. i'ts not funny, and absolutly terrible. can you play this piece? unless you can play it better, i don't think you have any write to make fun of him.

  • I think you mean a boy ...

  • Perchè dici "Così si fa?" Che ha fatto? XD

  • he's evgeny kissin, it's encore, the performance is not perfect, but it's still sensational

  • he's gotten old.

  • The piano started before he did what's up with that?

  • yeahh indeed, what's up with that?

  • lol

  • maybe the audio is not perfectly going with the video

  • Kissin is incredible. He must surely be one of the best ever. I cannot think of a better pianist over recent years.

  • Who tunes your piano? IF anyone needs a tuner Im ur go 2 guy.

  • I agree with pianofat Dinu Lapatti`s is the best interpretation of this waltz. No other pianist can get closer to him. Lipatti was a miracle.

  • Does your opinion matter so much that when you've written something, you have to announce that you've done so?

  • Its clever ... you must bow to cleverness.

  • I attended this concert and thought the program was most interesting. Now that I listen to it here, it seems to me the piano wasn't very good either.

However, the Kissen's encores were brilliant. It is the only concert I have ever attended in which the encores saved the performance from being a disaster.

  • é un grande!!!!!!

  • não resta dúvida quanto a apurada técnica, do que resulta na leveza ds mãos sobre o teclado. Parabéns.

  • alittle too much emphasis on the adagio you can hear it and plus some of it is way too fast for the tempo that it is suppose to be!

  • Crap, this is the best interpretation i've heard of this waltz...

  • It's totally not the best one:S

  • i wish i could be there!!

  • its too exaggerated, but its for show, and most audiences eats that shit. i feel like barfing after listening to this...not that its bad or anything, i just feel dizzy

  • No parceros, que hombre tan encantador <

  • He's great.!!!

  • you're lucky to be there in the first seats.

  • lol :P good way to say you were there XD

  • man... did he used a cell phone to record this?

  • Oh yes, my Nokia E70 :-)

  • when did it happen?

  • 2007, May 30th

  • only a great pianist would have such a great contribution to this posting - you must be a great, 2031M. I'm glad you so openly respect other's opinions.

  • i can rognize Kissin everywhere, and the cause is his hair

  • That was absolutely annoying. Nothing to do with him being a piano ham either. He totally disected that song and served it up in indigestible pieces.

  • I hate Kissin's Chopin. Let him play Liszt only. Maybe the two are the same to him...

  • Chopin would've hated this performance. he hated this "grand manner" w/ excessive sentimentality and exaggerated rubatos. As Friederik Muller, his top student says "He hated all lingering and dragging, misplaced rubatos, as well as exaggerated ritardandos...and it is precisely in this respect that people make such terrible errors in playing his works." This performance is interesting, but way too dramatic for this type of peice.

  • i before except after c, but you do not mention the split note in the first quadruplet...

  • well.. lets say my spelling error is my interpretation of the english language...

  • My Dutch wasn't up to much either even after 15 years, so Danish was barley understandable.

    CHEERS!

  • well chopin's opinios dont really count no more, do they?

  • I don't know? I suppose Edvard Munch's interpretation of The Scream "don't count no more" either.

  • melodramatic playing is what's expected for performance pianists..Lets face it.. going to a concert or recital to hear Chopin Brahms or Liszt on piano and the pianist just plays the notes.. that's boring.. but when they bob their heads and make grande hand gestures.. THATS performing..

  • Oh, don't kid yourself. There will never be another Mozart, but Evgeny Kissin has plenty of talent.

  • @BitterScribe

    ...

mozard was a composer, evgeny is a pianist. how can you even put them two in the same sentence? not to mention they lived in different centuries. plus that the comparisons thats going on is the cancer of youtube.

  • Just a little melodramatic in section 2. You have the rare gift of being able to differentiate dynamics and should be congratulated.

  • grazie mille from japan for the post. nice seats!

  • he plays so fast

  • the score says 100 measures pro minute..

  • scores are guides dont forget interpritation

  • Steinway steniway??or Q sons?*((

  • nice

  • I'm pretty sure it's a Bosendorfer

  • godlike!

is it just me or has he gained some weight over the last 2-3 years?

  • hahahaha!! who cares?! dont look, listen.

  • fab as usual, but anyone heard rachmaninoffs recordings of this?brilliant of course, but so camp!!

  • rach rocks! amazing interpretation. its on here somewhere :)

  • great!...if you find it please let me know :)

  • he should use a bechstein instead

  • Wow, it really is a different story when you meet a pianist in person. Thanks for the upload!

  • This should be ridiculously for him.

  • What piano is that?

  • Steinway

  • Wonderful interpretation - very moving tempo and dynamic range - one of the best I've ever heard - last but not least very touching to see that Kissin is still human (last bar gaff).

  • Thank you for your comments, Michael :-) Hope to post soon new beautiful interpretations :-)
