While I usually agree with Todd's analysis, I'm afraid this clip is a little off base. He comes from a classical cessationist viewpoint that says that now that we have a Bible, we have no need of the miraculous gifts. If he is correct, then there is some cause for concern with IHOP and other such ministries. If, however, he is incorrect (as I believe he is) then he is in the dangerous place of condemning something that the Lord is doing. Yes, test the spirits, but don't quench THE Spirit.
I respect this man because he wants to protect us from potential false teachers and prophets. The man he criticized seems to be "prophetic" by and "angel" concerning things that are really just obvious...for times are getting worse like the bible says so a natural response is to congregate in prayer, evangelism, etc..
I had a vision of heaven and the presence of God dwelling inside me made possible through the repentance of sin and trusting in Christ as my Lord and savior. These visions just gave me hope and courage to further read the word and share the gospel not make predictions of the end times because all is already predicted in revelations.
Not only is the content of the argument of this video wrong, his presentation is horrible. He gives no Scripture that diffinitively supports HIS CLAIM that prophecy is not for today, yet when I busted my Bible open this afternoon I read in 1Co. 14:1, "Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, especially that you would prophecy." Burden of proof is on the one who says it's not for today, and what a heavy burden. If prophecy is not for today, then by association, neither is love.
Just using the study tools such as the Greek/ Hebrew original languishes. Lexicons, etc... is not enough. We must learn that understanding scripture is harder if we do not realize 2 things.
1. WE MUST UNDERSTAND IT FROM A LOGIC THE IS FROM ANCIENT HEBREW AND GREEK. Not our modern Hellenistic logic., which is much less likely to expose what the scripture means.
2. WE MUST BE PRAYERFUL AND BE LEAD BY THE HOLY SPIRIT INTO ALL TRUTH.
Remember God will not go against HIS Word by any means,
Scripture tells us to TRY the spirits the Spirit. Any false teachings must be dealt with according to the Scripture. The True church (I mean True repentant man and woman) not a building. denomination, etc. are and will be under attack and have been since the time of the founding of the Church. The Scripture is under attack and little by little over 1000s of years the devil has tried to change or dilute the scripture. The KJV is closest English translation we have. But the GREEK/HEBREW is better
True God is still speaking and moving, BUT He never, NEVER violates his own Word.
Everything God does confirms His word and never goes against it. The scripture says we are to prove all things by the scripture. Proper study ( dissection ) of anything such as sermons, signs and wonders, teachings etc.... MUST be proved or disproved by Scripture.
Yes this does take a lot of time, learning ( does the Greek, Hebrew bear it out in context, culture, manors, customs and Languish).
The canon is closed but not the moving of God's Spirit. He's alive! God the Ghost isn't imprisoned in Scripture! Its God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost not God the Holy Bible. He wrote the Bible and is still speaking and moving. Its only a Living Word because the One who spoke it and moved men to write in it is alive today! That's what makes it living. We are to test spirits and test prophecies (1 John 4/ 1 Cor 14) but not to condemn all who claim to have them. Much love!
Do we need to correct false teaching? Yes! But the false teaching of Paul's time is nothing like what charismatics are teaching today. We yell and scream about hermeneutics and context, but they're are so many scholars/theologians today who are well respected who teach on supernatural occurrences and their application today. Two that come to mind are Wayne Grudem & John Piper. Let's close the gap between cessationist/charimatic believers and lose the need to be right all of the time.
he might sound irritating but what he's saying is not wrong.it's not wrong to warn people of false prophets/teachers, especially if they have bible proofs. so a christian should remain silent even if he/she sees something unbiblical from a preacher or so-called christian organization?how can other people be warned?Come on, we as christians shouldnt be emotional if somebody questions a leader. we should consider checking the accusation and prove it with God's word.Jesus only saves, not preachers!
For all those people who seem to think that they know about Mike Bickel and seem to think he is using IHOP for money...you should check your facts THE MAN LIVES IN DUPLEX...he drives a medium grade car and weres the same button up dress shirt and dress pants eveyother sunday. Your foolish to think that a Missions base with 500+ full time employes ...would not need a large amount of money! The money made on CD's and T-shirt Goes to pay the musicaians.Misty Edwards lives in a substandard apart.
If it's not John Piper/Kirk Cameron, or any other person who believes in cessationism this guy goes after them. He left the word, as the supreme court of everything in this age. But according to scripture there are gifts, and visions in them...didn't paul get saved through an open vision..?? right.
People like this prevevnt you from truly knowing Christ, who is the teacher he sent? a book? no! how does that teacher teach...? by telling you to study and come up with 10000 interpritations of the same thing? NOPE! he brings us into all truth, if u knew him you would know that, maybe (before commenting back like a know it all) you should really drop your pride, and everything you think you know and seek ONLY Christ, the spirit of Truth. if u ask God for bread he will not give u a serpent.
i'm weary of any ministry that teaches we can somehow bring God's kingdom in fullness in this time... or that we have the power through prayer to "make" the world better. The bible I read says the exact opposite... the bible I read says to walk in obedience to shine a light to non-believers and to testify to the world that its foundations are going to pass away. It says we are to prepare for persecution - and famines and wars and an increase in ungodliness.
Ok God still uses visions and dreams. But any prophecy/ any person receives must line up with the apostles and the prophets. It will not differ from Christs teachings at all but will have the same heart. I believe Bickle hears/heard from God at one time but he tries to use the bible to promote IHOP's agenda. Young people are attracted to the music and such. When persecution comes to these young people we'll see how IHOP can fill stadiums and a devilish and earthly marketplace...
bashing other believers instead, im gonna reach out to those people, and im gonna apologise for the churches bigotry(and my own) and let god do his thing
everybody sucks... no matter what, we all suck. we cant even get along with one another and slam each other over the dumbest stuff. we can't even agree with what the book says. five people wil give me five interperetions...that sucks and the church will continue to grow weaker. i dont care about wat ihop says or the other side of the argument. i just want god. you guys can squabble on bullshit, im going after god..im done persecuting gays, and im done helping banning t.v. shows, im done
The devil does his best (and favorite) work in misleading the elders and members of the church. It is sad how they program each other to throw out scripture to defend the false prophets. Would be nice if they would quit trying to "invoke" the "spirit of ~~~~ WHATEVER" in a room or a brain and go read the Bible to know the TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Burn false prophets!!!!!!!! OOOOoooooooo, is that a bit to strong???? I don't know,,,,, the eternal torment of hell is worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
It is written in Bible: In last days i will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young man will see visions, your old man will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my spirit in those days, and they will prophesy'. Acts 2:17,18
If God will him self make people to see visions and tell prophesis, who is man to tell God what He can or can not do?
...... Friel does the opposite error. ST Paul said do not despise prophecying. the perfect has not come as we do not know as we are not known. (I Cor 13) so there is a place for visions etc even now, not to add toscripture but to draw us to it.
Friel quenches the Spirit because of maniacs who abuse spiritual phenomenon.
and Friel's sneering tone does not bode well for his own fruit, he is as dead as those he rails at
In regards to prayer, and worship Scripture tells us to pray for one another (James 5:16) and even to pray without ceasing through word, action or deed.
The angels and souls in heaven minister before God day and night, they never stop praising him (Revelation 4:8)
Christ is our Bridegroom and we are his "spiritual bride" not in a "sexual" tone but in the deepest spiritual intimacy of unity with him. And he is going to return for his Church (Revelation 21:9; 22:17)
This does not mean that God cannot use people to give certain prophetic words (only as long as it reflects scripture) to certain people, or warn people to repent and prepare for some natural disaster, calamity, etc... More than anything visions, dreams, prophecy, miracles, Still prove Gods Sovereignty and to say God doesn't is an attack on his Sovereignty
1 Corinthians 12:9-11 Tells us that God can give gifts of prophecy, healing, and miracles to people if he wills, but these are for the building up of the body of christ not for those who seek only to believe.
Any prophecy or vision given is also to be used with discernment. Paul tells us to test the spirits, do they acknowledge Jesus has come in the flesh? 1 John 4:1
The canon of scripture is closed no more "new" teaching in regards to "doctrine" needs to be given, but....
2 tim 3:16 If I understood right you said that there should be no more dream and visions, what about John and the book of revelation? why we should not have more dreams and visions? what about healing? prophesying ? Paul said that we should ask for the spirit of prophesy 1 cor 14:1

It's too bad that this guy, as good hearted as he might be, is severely obnoxious.
