  • the 35 has been my regular route for 20 years. Its interesting to know that as well as Metrobuses there were Fleetline on route!

  • Good ol days this is what the scene of the West Midlands should be today none of these plastic rubbish

  • Live in kings Heath. Facinating to see it in 80's as moved to brum in late 90's

Surprised to see so much traffic on the alcester rd!! Looked dangerous with the cyclist and pedestrians trying to cross from behind the bus. That stretch of road has not changed much

  • 50Y always went into New Street. It was only when WMT bought them that it was moved to High Street. The 50Y shared the same stop as the 5Y, 51Y and 53Y.

  • It is really interesting to see that things were not always better years ago-just look how the metrobuses are plastered back and front in graffiti.

  • Today u still get 3 buses coming along at once with same service number after waiting for ages!

  • Used to live on the Alcester Road. Living in Bangkok now! It hasn't changed a bit, has it.

  • god, i live near here, looks so... different, facinating to see, made my day

    more vids :D

  • I don't know about how profitable the 50 is.

It has been described as the busiest bus route in Eirope once.

It has several focal points such as Moseley, Kings Heath, Maypole andDruids Heath these help generate lots of passengers travelling part-route only to make passengers carried per bus per hour quite high.

  • The "Twenty minutes" referred to the frequency of service (not journey time). As originally introduced [November 1987]there TWO versions of the 50Y - an every 40 minutes service to/from New Street plus an every 40 minutes service to/from High Street - together giving a 20 minute frequency. I don't think the New Street version lasted very long, all 50Y buses instead using High Street like the 50.

  • Sorry I didn't realise. Is it true the 50 route is one of the most profitable in the UK or Europe?

  • The 50 'why'! Twenty minutes into town, hilarious. It takes that long now to get through Kings Heath!! Thank you Fleetline. Do you remember the 2p & 6p fare and little square tickets?

  • I used to love travelling on the buses back then

  • Thanks for the info re 4580 / 6580.

  • This bus is actually 6580 not 4580 as 4580 would be GOG580N just to let you know mate

  • Lol, the 50 was as frequent then as it is now

  • ahh so many memories of Yourbus - facinated by them as a kid - more please !

  • Graffiti on the front of a WMT bus! shocking!

i wonder if "kev" is on youtube lol.
