This is my fifth or so viewing of this film and I can watch it over and over. I'm haunted and mesmerized by these characters and blown completely away by Geraldine Page's performance. Utterly beautiful in its melancholy...
This was the one made between Annie Hall and Manhattan...and yet the least talked about of the three of them...not only is it the best of those three, it's the best thing Woody Allen has ever done...it's a masterpiece.
The line between drama and comedy is often indiscernible by even the most fastidious observers. There are plenty of laughs in this piece of art from the master.
@spagandtuna It's one of my top five favorite films next to In the Bedroom, Safe, The Delta, and Ratcatcher. Interiors is worth studying. I always find something.
@stephenbacurin I'll have to investigate those others. Among my favorites: HUD, Rushmore, Cries and Whispers, Summer and Smoke, Night of the Iguana, Save the Tiger, Midnight Cowboy, Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, A Bronx Tale, and mostly anything directed by Billy Wilder!
@Colunga210 This was back when it was reviews and movie stars that sold a movie. The trailer didn't matter. Hell, go see the trailer for Rocky; they give away the ending of the movie.
no I mean geraldine, I didn't think, although she is wonderful, that Maureen got as much air time , her character was pretty straight forward. No, I saw pain in gp's eyes....did she draw it from real life
I don't think Geraldine Page deserved to be nominated in lead or deserved to win for that matter, it is true that her character is at the center of the plot and is also the reason for the title, but her screentime hardly screams leading actress in this movie.
if some one have the link to watch it on computer..!

I’ve always preferred Woody Allen’s dramas to his comedies. This film in particular is a masterpiece.
