i'm thinking that i might want to be a zoo keeper, but my biggest issue would be having to to get up close to tigers and lions and other dangerous animals. does anybody know if i would absolutely have to go inside the tigers' cage?

As a future zoo keeper, I can answer: no. When you have to go in the animals' outdoor enclosure to clean up, the animals will be caged in their indoor enclosures, and vice versa. The goal is that you never have to be in direct contact with dangerous predators such as lions, tigers or bears. For feeding, we cage them indoor and use a feeding trapdoor, or we put the food in the outdoor enclore and then free the animals.
