This is true for all of the main characters in the live action movie:

1. Their acting is uninteresting and does nothing for the characters

2. Their REAL personalities, simply because they posses some LIFE and it's not bad acting because it's obviously real, turns out to be more likeable and believeable and MORE like how we would've wanted the characters to be like than their "acting" ever was.

It's such a shame, it makes me have a low opinon of the 3 leads' acting ability

I actually agree with this. People have no idea how to make a movie. Do people on youtube really think they know how to produce a movie better than professional producers? If finding look-alikes was all it took to make a good adaptation, then anyone could make a movie. It's not that hard to find people who look like a 12 year old bald kid. It is however extremely difficult to find good kid actors.
