Thank you so much for sharing this video! This is a GREAT song! Better Than Ezra is a great band and has been rocking for a loooooong time. I remember listening to them when I was in middle school... HAHAHAHA! Those were the days!
@vnyand This isn't the CD version. Actually, compared to that version, this would definitely be considered the more acoustic version. They sound somewhat similar, but the main guitar on the CD version is electric (there is an acoustic guitar on the CD version, but it doesn't come in until after the first part of the song).
The bass guitar seems like it might be electric in this version, but it could be an acoustic/electric bass. Anyway, it makes some sense to call this the acoustic one.
Probably one of my favorite BTE songs. I do cry when I hear it. He has put into words what every parent feels.....Yes, the one thing that we both did perfectly...
xGSx, when something is 'acoustic' simply implies the instrument types played during.. and in the case of this video/song, it is most certainly acoustic not electric. All the sounds are naturally produced by the individual instruments.
Travis left???? Aww I thought they were gonna last forever. So glad they aren't breaking up, I think I would cry if that happened. They are my favorite band since I was like 12, so almost 14 years!!
Well apparently by '3rd album' you mean Friction, Baby. I was too young to ever realize they had 2 demo albums and I always thought Deluxe was their first one. I've never heard of the other 2 even when searching for rare BTE stuff. Do you know if those songs can be found anywhere?
Any background on Michael Jerome, the new drummer? I hate Sugerland for stealing Travis. We need to hear it from the band, I guess, then we'll hear it for ourselves. Drummers are notoriously able to grab a song in a hurry, and play it as well, if not improved, from the originator. I assume BTE knew of a great backup , don't you? Always prepare for the worst.
The band at least seems to be handling the departure well. Travis is a great guy and I wish him nothing but the best. I can't wait for the new album in May.
Caught them at the HOB New Orleans Sat2/21/09. That was their second show with the new Drummer. He was very good but definately a hurdle fans will need to overcome if these guys are to be successful. I generally see them 3-5 times a year and have since the early 90s. Travis will be sorely missed for a time to come.
The drummer, Travis, just left the band. That's too bad. These guys are great and they seem to have great chemistry. He'll be hard to replace. He is touring with Sugarland. Even though I like Sugarland, now I have to be mad at them.
I love this band and have been a big fan for years since Deluxe came out. I don't understand how they can be barely even known here in England because they're so good. This is an excellent acoustic version of Closer, which is one of my favourite songs of theirs. It's so moving. Kevin has the most amazing voice and his songwriting is fantastic. I was lucky enough to see them live in NYC in the 90s when I was in America for awhile and they were incredible.
Thanks for your comment. I went to lots of concerts when I was in America and Better Than Ezra, Melissa Etheridge and Del Amitri were the ones I really remember and which blew me away. Better Than Ezra were incredible, as I knew they would be but better than I'd even imagined. They're a great band and I never get tired of hearing their songs!
Del Amitri used to put on some good shows. They are no longer a band I believe. Justin Currie put out some record called "Uncle Devil Show" which was so-so.
I played this song for my mom and dad when my brohter passed away on feb. 24,o8 and they cried and cried. My brother, cousin and i love this band so much! No band is greater than them. BTE has made many many great songs and it makes me mad when singers try to make covers of their songs and they have no passion for the song like kevin does! BTE Rocks! I've been listening to them since 95 and i'm going on 20 now. Their songs will NEVER get old!
You're right, this song is so moving, just like other BTE's songs, you will remember your brother every time you listen to this song for better and for good...
ha ha I love playing BTE songs for people and they're like OMG that band sounds great who are they and I get to reveal to them my little secret...that I do actually know who the best band in the world is lol.
That's right... They're my favortie band. We all ezralites agree to say they might be one the most underrated bands ever, but may be that's what makes them be so good... Concerning Kevin's voice, I'm speechless, it's awesome, it's among the best ,like you said, in any genre, what about the falsetto in Juicy, for example?... Anyway, fans keep them alive and kicking, no matter how well or badly their records sell.
Just the BEST BAND NEVER NOTICED! I am still taken aback that these guys aren't more prominent. It's a shame. Kevin's voice is one of the best voices in any genre or time...not to mention song writer....I cry every time I hear this song...

Since you've heard the new drummer Michael Jerome, can he handle it, like Travis? Do ya know any history of him? And by the way... F! Sugarland!!
