I'm puzzel'd , the Alienware M17X is way to heavy for me to have with me everyday of school i have since i need to use it everyday. but the new 2011 version of Macbook pro 15" (15" is the lowest i want to go) has the same specs as the 17" only a smaller screen and a price diffrence of about 150 - 100 euro's + the macbook being easy carryable. i'm using it for Adobe programs and gaming . i could alternatively buy the M17X and just buy a bagpack for it and i'l be settled for same price.

Since most of my gaming is done at home, I would have an amazing setup at home, but on the road, I wouldn`t game too much, so I would just pick one of those up that can still play Crysis on Medium settings for less. It depends on the user. But I still don`t like gaming laptops. They are often crammed and are loud. They also have shorter life because of how much they are pushed.

the only real difference between the two laptops is the security. The Mac OS X is the most secure software in the world. Alienware is run by Windows 7 which only has good security if you get a $60 security system. However, the security system only get's rid of viruses they recognize, but what use is that if there's a new virus everyday? If you want a gaming laptop with good security, get a Mac Pro. If you want a $1000 cheaper laptop with the possibility it will crash, get an Alienware.
I love the M17x, great machine and great value, but OS X is definitely a better operating system. I've had my macbook for 5 YEARS without one single problem. I'm a developer and am constantly writing code and performing lengthy computations on my machine. Xcode is a great environment to code in and it comes in the box. I emulate windows for the very few things that I need to, and make full use of the UNIX base. Worth the extra $1000? Yes. If you want a machine for gaming, buy a desktop.

Went back and forth between the m17x and a dv7tqe quad i7 2nd gen. Bare in mind this video is from 2009 so the m17x has changed. m17x finished at 2200 with tax.
The dv7tqe finished at 1200 lol and the dv7tqe had more hardrive space more memory and a 6 and 9 cell battery.
Were talking like 750g on alien and a TB on the dv7tqe. 8g ram on hp and 6 on alien so its significant. You pay for the hdmi in and the light keys with alienware only.
@BobertEntertainment I would recommend the macbook pro for everyday things and for small games such as minecraft and cod 4, but the alienware will be better for more high end games. Also alienware gets many viruses such as all pc computers do where the mac doesnt. It basically comes down to personal preference and i prefer the macbook pro :)

I also reviewed their website and customized a few computers and i noticed that if you customize them smartly, you get a great computer for an extremely fair price.

Best is to buy alienware and live with the fact that there's no gaming on a plane anyway.
Mac is worth the extra money if only for the stable (rock solid UNIX-based) operating system. You can run Windows on intel-based Macs you can't run OS X on PC. Mac users rarely if ever have to worry about viruses or Blue Screens of Death(TM). Windows users are constantly in needed of bloated viruses suits while Mac users use production suits. Seems half of Windows CPU is used just to keep it safe. Linux has far less program to choose from.

Why are we comparing macbooks and alienware gaming laptops? They were both made for different roles. Alienware is specifically made to be a major gaming monster machine while mac is mainly for portability and less aggressive programs. Comparing a macbook and a alienware laptop is comparing toasters with blenders.
the point is that the alienware has more parts inside it, and can do way more stuff, for a considerably cheaper price. All your typical mac comebacks have been proved void:
Both get viruses
Both have the same battery life
Both are the same size and approximate weight
There is no argument, the mac is simply not as good and costs more.
This is not really a valid video, considering the M17x is made for gaming. Still, being in completely different categories, it depends on what you need. The MacBook Pro IS overpriced, but I still would rather have that, because I am not a gamer and have video, audio, and website editing to do. The M17x is an awesome computer though, it is a BEAST and I'd love to have it.
the mac has 1 lighting combination for it's external LEDs, and the alienware has 64 million thanks to it having more lighting zones and a whole spectrum of colours to choose from. The mac looks like a badly cut tablet of marble...
I go through a PC in a year or two before its either insanely slow or crashes. When i got my mac ive had it for 5 years and it runs great! My uncle has a mac from 1991 and it still it a great computer with the latest operating system. With the very, very low virus rate and over all longer lasting performance the mac will be better in the long run. Let me know what you think :)

OK first the MacBook Pro is way better than the Alienware not in performance but by its battery life its design and environment :) If you want a performance Computer for playing FPS games I really recommend Alienware Aurora (Even the cheapest one)
@mkextremerTV Also it's worth noting that performance is inversely proportioned to battery life. The better the performance, the shorter the battery life, and vice versa. While Macbooks can brag all they want about battery life you'll notice a pathetic performance level while on battery power.
I have an alienware m11x, and the battery life is only 1 hour shorter than that of the macbook pro.... that has 10 hours and I can get 8-9 hours thanks to Nvidia Optimus. They both cost the same and the only difference is that the alienware has a dedicated GPU (which means it doesn't suck balls) and the mac has an apple OS.
firstly, the battery life will be identical because you can turn the GPU off if you need to.
secondly, the alienware has 64 million different lighting combinations and the mac has 1, so dont talk to me about 'design'.
Thirdly, the environment was invented in 1982 by Al Gore. Last time I checked, the magnesium case of the m17x was no more damaging to the 'environment' that the aluminium one on the mac.
Also, of course you need a laptop for gaming - if you leave the house....

I can't make my decision between a macbook pro and alienware laptop. Alienware has better prices for RAM, HDD & processor. @BobertEntertainment I would recommend the macbook pro for everyday things and for small games such as minecraft and cod 4, but the alienware will be better for more high end games. Also alienware gets many viruses such as all pc computers do where the mac doesnt. It basically comes down to personal preference and i prefer the macbook pro :)

I downloaded AutoCAD and installed it from the student website in about 30 minutes.
It took my Mac friends about 12 hours.

@MultiGeekProductions than you wouldn't come very far with an alienware laptop, so a pro'd be a better buy if you fly a lot, keep in mind though that batterylife reduces dramatically if you push the hardware capabilities. the only way you can keep it running on a 7 hour flight is just using text programs so than you'd be better off buying a netbook cause it's a whole lot cheaper. Best is to buy alienware and live with the fact that there's no gaming on a plane anyway.

Mac is worth the extra money if only for the stable (rock solid UNIX-based) operating system. You can run Windows on intel-based Macs you can't run OS X on PC. Mac users rarely if ever have to worry about viruses or Blue Screens of Death(TM). Windows users are constantly in needed of bloated viruses suits while Mac users use production suits. Seems half of Windows CPU is used just to keep it safe. Linux has far less program to choose from.

Mac os consumates approximately 100+ kb memory transfer and about 500mb from ram... windows seven consumates about 50-70 kb memory but shockingly 650 due to all the features involved... but! windows xp sp3 only consumates approximately 20kb and 200-350mb of ram and processor transfer memory... the hard drive will only deduct it's memory... your hard drive is os controlled... it's memory transfer controlled... have a nice day and go with pc...

the m17x comes with a much better GPU, I think the base model may even have dual GPUs (I can't remember exactly) I'm pretty sure that apple don't make a laptop of any size with a dedicated GPU, but correct me if I'm wrong. Basically what this means is that the mac cant play games and the alienware can...
you are NOT paying $1000 for an OS. You are paying $1000 to have 2 high-performance GPUs removed and an OS put on.

Why are we comparing macbooks and alienware gaming laptops? They were both made for different roles. Alienware is specifically made to be a major gaming monster machine while mac is mainly for portability and less aggressive programs. Comparing a macbook and a alienware laptop is comparing toasters with blenders.

This is not really a valid video, considering the M17x is made for gaming. Still, being in completely different categories, it depends on what you need. The MacBook Pro IS overpriced, but I still would rather have that, because I am not a gamer and have video, audio, and website editing to do. The M17x is an awesome computer though, it is a BEAST and I'd love to have it.

I go through a PC in a year or two before its either insanely slow or crashes. When i got my mac ive had it for 5 years and it runs great! My uncle has a mac from 1991 and it still it a great computer with the latest operating system. With the very, very low virus rate and over all longer lasting performance the mac will be better in the long run. Let me know what you think :)

OK first the MacBook Pro is way better than the Alienware not in performance but by its battery life its design and environment :) If you want a performance Computer for playing FPS games I really recommend Alienware Aurora (Even the cheapest one)

I have an alienware m11x, and the battery life is only 1 hour shorter than that of the macbook pro.... that has 10 hours and I can get 8-9 hours thanks to Nvidia Optimus. They both cost the same and the only difference is that the alienware has a dedicated GPU (which means it doesn't suck balls) and the mac has an apple OS.

firstly, the battery life will be identical because you can turn the GPU off if you need to.
secondly, the alienware has 64 million different lighting combinations and the mac has 1, so dont talk to me about 'design'.
Thirdly, the environment was invented in 1982 by Al Gore. Last time I checked, the magnesium case of the m17x was no more damaging to the 'environment' that the aluminium one on the mac.
Also, of course you need a laptop for gaming - if you leave the house....

I can't make my decision between a macbook pro and alienware laptop. Alienware has better prices for RAM, HDD & processor. On the other hand, macbook pro looks much calmer and less aggresive than alienware & it's more popular hence more reliable and trustable. Help me choose.
