  • Hey kids! Can you believe that MTV used to play great music??? I'd rather drink a cup of warm spit than watch 30 seconds of their mindless crap nowadays,,,,,

  • Like this if The Wire Season 2 brought you here

  • He was my first concert, my second, and third...when I was around 8 years old. My dad took me to his concerts.

  • by far the best song i've discovered so far this year.

  • de fruta madre

  • Steve Earle rocks!

  • Epic.

  • Ziggy and nick sobotka love this song

  • Was this a full Steve Earle show on MTV?

  • @farbeyonddriven04

Yes - it was a show he did in a Tennessee prison as a condition of his parole, and was titled "To Hell and Back". The entire show is posted at another video site. I will pm the info.

  • Ricky Bobby!

  • More intense than the original CD version. And what musical flow. God.

    Somebody please, please, please...MP3 this.

Then tell me where to find it!!!

  • Season 2 of the Wire this song came into my life!

  • I love this ...... there is another recording of Steve playing in one of the (TN) prisions, I believe...it's out there & he gives a bit of advice, LOL

  • always the best....always.....

  • ya'll be sure and look for Steve in a town near you on his new tour, he's coming to Minneapolis July 23, I will be there, front and center.....

  • Steve Earle, a man with character who has led a colorful life and learned from his mistakes and shared his story and talent with others. A man of moods and human moments, anger and bullshit like anyone else ..but a real man with a soul and fucking great batch of songs togo along with it all

  • Tune, anytime your feeling low, blast out this tune... "uber high 5 to unrepentant42!" I am sure I heard him years ago and forgot, was re- Ignited to his CM on a cool film.

  • @cfwbdude What film was it?

  • @cfwbdude What film was it? Terrabithia??

  • @Bdasef nooo Talladega Nights "If you aint first your last...!"

  • Jeez, he was a fatty mcfatterson here. He's ok, but he's not as smart as he thinks he is. A bit of an asshole too.

  • @MegaHenry111

If only he'd been produced by Bob Rock... Bob Rock could have saved him from his woeful mediocrity.

Bob Rock can save everyone, I've heard.

  • could it be that steve earle is more punk than punk .... oh yeahh

  • Washington street boulevard

  • @justlaxin22

    Huh?

Apart from anything else, Steve Earle's still making music, as are a whole lot of other great artists. Just cos it's not being spoonfed on MTV doesn't mean it isn't still out there...

  • I like this and Copperhead Road. Are any other Steve Earle songs as good?

  • @Ghost9909

If those are the only ones you know, you have some great listening ahead. I think some of his best are the quieter ones (Goodbye, Fort Worth Blues, Valentines Day, My Old Friend the Blues). But it sounds like you may prefer his hard edged rock. Look up Hardcore Troubadour, The Other Kind, Nowhere Road, Telephone Road, Back to the Wall and Snake Oil as a start. I haven't looked recently, but you used to be able to stream most of his albums on his myspace. Enjoy.

  • @Ghost9909 They are all great. One of my favorites is guitar town. check it out!

  • @Ghost9909 ALL OF THEM!!! ;D

  • @Ghost9909 Devil's right hand is cool.

  • agreed west coast

  • They should have made a live album of this show!

  • I am heading to itunes for this one!

  • Learned from his biography that this concert actually took place at a prison in Tennessee. He had to play for prisoners as part of his release/probation. The guys in the audience are actually prisoners.

  • Miranda Lambert stole this song!

  • @Tubesternator haha when I first hear kerosene I thought the same thing

  • @Tubesternator ***no she gave Earle credit for the song***but you could say Earle ripped off 'gloria' too.......

  • Comment removed

  • @Tubesternator It is my understanding that Steve Earle did not have a song credit at first. In an article for "No Depression", Lambert acknowledged Earle's influence and he was given a song credit on future printings of her album. I'm sure he doesn't mind receiving some of the royalties from "Kerosene."

  • Poor Nick!!!

  • Very nice tune, To listen to!

  • what is the name of the song he sings where he talks about cutting a preachers throat and then gets shot by a sheriff at the end?

  • @cookieman38111 Tom Ames' Prayer...set in the western/cowboy/outlaw days...

  • this song is da best evah!

  • great song saw him in gothenburg a few years ago felt allright all evening!

  • i feel alright tonight !

  • its because it was in a jail....part of his community service assholes!

  • It's just unimaginable that this was on MTV if you see the craphole it became.

  • no kidding. there was some great stuff on mtv in the 90's but you could tell things were a changing late in the decade.

  • @rug3r44 Haha yeah, I were thinking the same thing. People in the crowd even seems to know who he is!

  • @rug3r44 True Dat! Gave me chills...

  • This was such a great comeback song. I was a big fan of his before he got busted. And when he finally got out of prison and released this song, I was like "HELL YA!"

  • That´s my kind of audience!!

  • kick ass song, one of the first i learned to play on the guitar

  • without a doubt one of the best lineups of the Dukes.

  • That's where i heard this song too SupesTV. The Wire Season 2's ending montage. It is fucking great!.

  • Yeah me too The Wire is one of the best cop shows ever

  • david simon does like stevie earle. the opening theme for season 5 is steve earle. and steve earle makes several appearences throughout the series as waylon, bubbles friend who takes him to meetings and helps him get back on his feet.

  • @timeforaction And don't forget this song at the end of season 2

  • THis SOng IS THe BEst THing EVer.

  • some guys have the balls to make music they want to make.steve aint country or rock he is just steve.and its great.check out cross canadian ragweed they have there own sound to

  • The best fucking artist to come our way since sliced bread. To those who don't agree, well there are better places for people like you, may I suggest the moon?

  • love that Steve Earle. (but glad those sideburns were just a phase.) :)

  • i heard this on The Wire Season 2's ending montage and I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG! I don;t even like whatever genre this is(soft rock, country, bluegrass?) whatever it is, this is simply good music.

  • Yes! What a fantastic tune to end the season of one of the best shows EVER on TV!

  • that crowd is from 1996???

  • Love this song! I use it when I'm getting ready for something big XD!

  • It pisses me off how much Miranda Lambert ripped this off with that stupid ass song "Kerosene".

  • Comment removed

  • why you hatin'? Just love Steve Earle, and the world will love him too; it's the natural course of things. Those who don't get it, well, just pity them I guess.

  • Greatest singer/songwriter of all times right here baby!

  • DON'T FEED THE TROLLS

like the little 12 year olds obdami

anyone who reads his profile can see he is a troll.

  • obdami - you dumb little cluck. Who cares how he looks? Well, you do, i guess. He's still one of the greatest musicians America has produced, ever. Thank God he's still alive to share his wisdom and beautiful music with us.

  • obdummy - listen to I Feel Alright sometime and then tell me he's not a great musician, you hysterical little featherhead.

  • Ignorant fuck, shut your mouth you waste of skin.

  • bastard

  • great music saw him in gothenburg awesome

  • someone reccommended Steve Earle to me 9 years ago and have enjoyed his stuff, old and new, since. I'm glad that good tv has broadended his audience, but for god's sake people, GO BUY A CD. or 4. He's the man.

  • The wire, the sopranos and deadwood three top best shows made.

  • there you go, and Steve Earle is right up there with the best singer/songwriters ever born...maybe the best..right, unrepentant42??? you find the best stuff, baby......

  • The ending of Season Two of , "The Wire" with this song, is the most brilliant three minutes in television I have ever viewed.

  • yeah it is, truly incredible. Waylon is also one of the coolest, redemptive characters on the show.

  • @WestCoast134 Pretty much the entire series is the most brilliant _____ minutes I've ever watched.

  • @WestCoast134 I can't hear this song and not think of the ending of Season 2 of The Wire. That's one of my favorite seasons. I lived in Locust Point when that was being filmed. I was in 8th or 9th grade and would come home and watch them film.

  • i also heard this from the wire season 2. brilliant track

  • what a song...

  • hey rich....you always put up the best stuff, sweetie...the best.....i wish i could get this show on DVD, does anyone know if it was recorded for sale? i've looked and looked....

  • the end of the wire season 2 awesome!!!!!

  • "The Wire" shits on "The Shield". The best show on television.

  • I have to agree with steeler. the wire seems to retain its realism by not having one over-the-top character like the shield. dont get me wrong, the shield is great but the wire seems to be that cut above.

  • In some ways I do agree with you, the wire is definatly more realastic the the Shield could ever be ( Or for most shows for that matter) but for my money The shield is much more fun to watch then the Wire could ever be.

Anyway Thank for replying to my comment :-) tell me if you agree or disagree, and altough I do not like the Wire that much I do want to see more of it and plus I love David Chase can't wait for his next project Ribbon of Dreams.

  • Love this tune...images of Nicky, Ziggy, Frank Sabotka and the other stevedores in my head!

  • Steve Earle is hardcore man, what a great songwriter

  • Steve Earle is still quite young but already one of the great legends of country music. No need for the Hall of Fame to recognize that. Oh, and the song fucking rocks!

  • Here he was just unrepentant!!! Such an energy, in each chord and in each note sung...

  • I listen to this song again and again and again....

anyone else watching this because of The Wire ?

  • Of course.

  • My son and I are addicted to this song. We first heard it at the end of season two of The Wire...quality series and a quality song!

  • Yes, thanks to the Wire. If I love a movie or a TV show, I automatically fall in love with the soundtrack.

  • Hell yeah, man =)

  • Hell yeah, man! The Wire is the best TV show.

  • Yes I am.

  • hon, i listen to this because it's Steve Earle, my favorite for years and years..the most incredible singer/songwriter alive and he did survive hell and back....

  • you and me both, my friend, you should check out some more Steve Earle..you will definitely enjoy the experience...he's incredible....

  • what a fuckin badass

  • saw him on this tour in 96. damn cool concert. aug 13 winnipeg mb

  • Listening to Steve do this song, just makes you think....everything's gonna be okay, hey.. it all turned out great for him! HE'S GREAT, He's a SURVIVOR!

  • Survivor of self-imposed hardship.

  • None the less, a survivor, right? We all make mistakes, some intentional, some accidental. Some learn & some don't. Steve Earle paid his price for using drugs. He's learned from it & has changed his lifestyle all together. He's over it & through it all he has continued to be a success in songwriting, performing, author of books & plays, etc...the list of accomplishments go on. Lots of his songs have been in featured recent films. Like myself, I hope you wish him the best. You be blessed too! :)

  • I said G L O R I A, Gloria !

  • Steve, one of a kind, a Legend !

  • thx this great, I miss this cd.

  • i feel all right is great

  • gets better every time you hear it

  • awesome

  • The Man!!! One of the most under-appreciated musicans out there.

  • love a steve earl fan!

  • steve is the man way to go always a fan....4 life...what a come back.....

  • When Feel Alright came out, I skipped class to buy it and drove around Auburn for a couple of hours listening to it. Very loud!

  • Just like Steve himself, the Dukes are irreplaceable.

  • What a frikin band

  • rich sweetie, you did it again!! wow, you really know how to make my day....
