Hey kids! Can you believe that MTV used to play great music??? I'd rather drink a cup of warm spit than watch 30 seconds of their mindless crap nowadays,,,,,
Yes - it was a show he did in a Tennessee prison as a condition of his parole, and was titled "To Hell and Back". The entire show is posted at another video site. I will pm the info.
I love this ...... there is another recording of Steve playing in one of the (TN) prisions, I believe...it's out there & he gives a bit of advice, LOL
Steve Earle, a man with character who has led a colorful life and learned from his mistakes and shared his story and talent with others. A man of moods and human moments, anger and bullshit like anyone else ..but a real man with a soul and fucking great batch of songs togo along with it all
Tune, anytime your feeling low, blast out this tune... "uber high 5 to unrepentant42!" I am sure I heard him years ago and forgot, was re- Ignited to his CM on a cool film.
Apart from anything else, Steve Earle's still making music, as are a whole lot of other great artists. Just cos it's not being spoonfed on MTV doesn't mean it isn't still out there...
If those are the only ones you know, you have some great listening ahead. I think some of his best are the quieter ones (Goodbye, Fort Worth Blues, Valentines Day, My Old Friend the Blues). But it sounds like you may prefer his hard edged rock. Look up Hardcore Troubadour, The Other Kind, Nowhere Road, Telephone Road, Back to the Wall and Snake Oil as a start. I haven't looked recently, but you used to be able to stream most of his albums on his myspace. Enjoy.
Learned from his biography that this concert actually took place at a prison in Tennessee. He had to play for prisoners as part of his release/probation. The guys in the audience are actually prisoners.
@Tubesternator It is my understanding that Steve Earle did not have a song credit at first. In an article for "No Depression", Lambert acknowledged Earle's influence and he was given a song credit on future printings of her album. I'm sure he doesn't mind receiving some of the royalties from "Kerosene."
This was such a great comeback song. I was a big fan of his before he got busted. And when he finally got out of prison and released this song, I was like "HELL YA!"
david simon does like stevie earle. the opening theme for season 5 is steve earle. and steve earle makes several appearences throughout the series as waylon, bubbles friend who takes him to meetings and helps him get back on his feet.
some guys have the balls to make music they want to make.steve aint country or rock he is just steve.and its great.check out cross canadian ragweed they have there own sound to
The best fucking artist to come our way since sliced bread. To those who don't agree, well there are better places for people like you, may I suggest the moon?
i heard this on The Wire Season 2's ending montage and I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG! I don;t even like whatever genre this is(soft rock, country, bluegrass?) whatever it is, this is simply good music.
why you hatin'? Just love Steve Earle, and the world will love him too; it's the natural course of things. Those who don't get it, well, just pity them I guess.
Hey, why all the negative comments? I'm not saying this isn't a good song, because it's a terrific song. I'm just saying he looks like a washed up fat fuck tard, or a FAT ELVIS if you prefer. Like I said before, he looked a lot better when he was shooting heroin and his music sounded better back then too. Nuttin' wrong with that. Geez, back off ya tards.

I liked him better when he was a Heroin addict. This fat Elvis look just gives me the creeps and makes me want to make a peanut butter and banana sandwich.
obdami - you dumb little cluck. Who cares how he looks? Well, you do, i guess. He's still one of the greatest musicians America has produced, ever. Thank God he's still alive to share his wisdom and beautiful music with us.

Man, you got some balls saying that. And who else, according to that standard, would be in that elite list? I'm guessing you're going to say Boxcar Willie and/or Slim Whitman. Am I right or am I right?
He's a good writer, but he's mediocre as a mucisian.
someone reccommended Steve Earle to me 9 years ago and have enjoyed his stuff, old and new, since. I'm glad that good tv has broadended his audience, but for god's sake people, GO BUY A CD. or 4. He's the man.
there you go, and Steve Earle is right up there with the best singer/songwriters ever born...maybe the best..right, unrepentant42??? you find the best stuff, baby......
@WestCoast134 I can't hear this song and not think of the ending of Season 2 of The Wire. That's one of my favorite seasons. I lived in Locust Point when that was being filmed. I was in 8th or 9th grade and would come home and watch them film.
