The USA is the only country that I know of that does not name their dead soldiers which can be seen on the mainstream news. The U.K. and also the Nederlands names their fallen soldiers, no matter what the legalities of the wars the soldiers are honoured by these countries. The coffins are brought home in daylight with street lined with people to honour the dead and also those who protest against the war. In the USA the soldiers are brought home at night in many cases and without TV news presence

The reason that the US doesn't show pictures/video of the dead on the battlefield is because the military wants the opportunity to inform the family, rather than have them find out by watching TV... reasons for not showing civilian dead is similar.

His company, save 18 Soldiers, was wiped out. The media showed footage of the battle and reported the unit name. My family, not knowing he was alive, were beside themselves. It was 7 days before they heard from him and learned he was OK. Meanwhile, my aunt, pregant with his child had been misled. It happens..

I have served as a casualty notification officer (IE-I was tasked to go to the families of KIA/WI American Soldiers and tell them that their family members were killed/injured.), putting me in a position of experience in terms of practice and policy... I told you why the US Government doesn't like to broadcast pictures of casualties and you told me that I was wrong. Does that sum it up?

@dekidc The chances of seeing a family member on 24 Cable news are fairly high, I'd suggest. Again, in the view of the US Government, the chances of that happening would be unacceptable. there are PLENTY of dead Soldiers and Civilians online for anyone who wishes to view them... some of the pics are of the dead from the American Civil War. It stopped nothing and we've had more than a few wars since then. What you're suggesting is wrong in two ways.

@dekidc Embedded reporters are given very strict guidelines about what they are and are not allowed to publish/photograph. Again, do some research and you'll find that MNC-I has kicked reporters out of Iraq and Afghanistan for violating this policy and publishing photos of dead US Military members. The example of Zoriah Miller comes to mind first. Google it...

@kristy48759 OK, I'll bite... Project Paperclip was a RECRUITING drive for German scientists AFTER WWII ended in Europe. During Operation Overcast, scientists were evacuated with an eye toward preventing the USSR from taking them/to figure out what of scientific value had been passed along to Japan. Most were not removed from Europe, nor did they do work on behalf of the US. They were paid stipends and were resettled for a few years. This whole premise is false and out of context.

Most of the people who went to the US WANTED to be US Citizens and did so either with heavy advocacy from private companies (not unlike today), or via contracts with the US Government. Most didn't come to the US until the 1950's. . Finally, Verner Von Braun became a naturalized citizen of the US in the 50s, after ignoring orders from higher, deciding who to surrender to (US or USSR), and choosing to defect with his technicians. But again, I'M the nutty one, right?

@dekidc I did train with the Macedonian "special forces (not impressed, by the way...)." I am, in fact, a Civil Affairs Officer. CA is a Special Operations branch in the US Military, which exposes me to all kinds of special operations Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, etc. For the record, I've also served in the infantry. So, I guess you're right, I am quite "versatile." The US Army likes it's Soldiers that way.

The USA is the only country that I know of that does not name their dead soldiers which can be seen on the mainstream news. The U.K. and also the Nederlands names their fallen soldiers, no matter what the legalities of the wars the soldiers are honoured by these countries. The coffins are brought home in daylight with street lined with people to honour the dead and also those who protest against the war. In the USA the soldiers are brought home at night in many cases and without TV news presence

The reason that the US doesn't show pictures/video of the dead on the battlefield is because the military wants the opportunity to inform the family, rather than have them find out by watching TV... reasons for not showing civilian dead is similar.

His company, save 18 Soldiers, was wiped out. The media showed footage of the battle and reported the unit name. My family, not knowing he was alive, were beside themselves. It was 7 days before they heard from him and learned he was OK. Meanwhile, my aunt, pregant with his child had been misled. It happens..

I have served as a casualty notification officer (IE-I was tasked to go to the families of KIA/WI American Soldiers and tell them that their family members were killed/injured.), putting me in a position of experience in terms of practice and policy... I told you why the US Government doesn't like to broadcast pictures of casualties and you told me that I was wrong. Does that sum it up?

Again, do some research and you'll find that MNC-I has kicked reporters out of Iraq and Afghanistan for violating this policy and publishing photos of dead US Military members. For my part, I've been to the former Yugoslavia both before and after the war and I've worked with the Macedonian "Special Forces." @kristy48759 OK, I'll bite... Project Paperclip was a RECRUITING drive for German scientists AFTER WWII ended in Europe. During Operation Overcast, scientists were evacuated with an eye toward preventing the USSR from taking them/to figure out what of scientific value had been passed along to Japan. Most were not removed from Europe, nor did they do work on behalf of the US. They were paid stipends and were resettled for a few years. This whole premise is false and out of context.

Most of the people who went to the US WANTED to be US Citizens and did so either with heavy advocacy from private companies (not unlike today), or via contracts with the US Government. Most didn't come to the US until the 1950's. . Finally, Verner Von Braun became a naturalized citizen of the US in the 50s, after ignoring orders from higher, deciding who to surrender to (US or USSR), and choosing to defect with his technicians. But again, I'M the nutty one, right?

The early success of the German military clearly demonstrates a high technological competence. I never disputed that. Still, the notion that America was kidnapping scientists is demonstratably false in the best case, and a deliberate distortion of fact in the worst case.

@dekidc I did train with the Macedonian "special forces (not impressed, by the way...)." I am, in fact, a Civil Affairs Officer. CA is a Special Operations branch in the US Military, which exposes me to all kinds of special operations Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, etc. For the record, I've also served in the infantry. So, I guess you're right, I am quite "versatile." The US Army likes it's Soldiers that way.
