Neither of these two turntables are actually any good, buy a Rega, vintage Technics, Pioneer or Denon, or any dcent vintage machine if you want to delve into vinyl and want sound quality. people, do research. Don't waste your hard earned money on these junky peices of junk.
hey!i have a small request...i have a numark dj in a box which is a belt drive turntable.... i dont have a vinyl and my cartridge is broken...i can buy a vinyl but how can i rcord. there are only 3 things in it. the red pin,the white pin and the power plug.....how can i record the vinyl..........??please tell me....i beg u
well i have 2 belt drive... the best of it, is that when you think that somethings broken... generally its just the rubber band (belt) that is out of place =)
i guess with direct drive if it gets broken it is more expensive to fix it...
i don't know why turntable sellers tend to think that only techno djs want to buy turntables..either belt or direct drive is good to just listen to vinyl....when you ask wich is best they assume you want to scratch...instead of telling what is the best sounding output
I currently have a very old Direct Drive turntable, the Technics SL-1950. Im not a dj but I would like to get into it. Id like to learn to mix and scratch but my technics turntable seems to be like a belt drive almost where if i were to spin the record backwards, it would take a second or two to get back to normal speed when I let go. Forgive me if this isnt clear, but if anyone does understand my problem, is there anyway to fix this problem by replacing the motor or the magnets?
About the longevity of the direct drive, it does in fact wear down. It may take 20-30 years, but it does. I had an old Pioneer table that my father gave to me, and it was real temperamental about proper speed. Most of the time it played just fine, but sometimes it would start slowing down and stop altogether, one time even playing backwards! Also the pitch adjust knob was bust. Any time it was touched, the table immediately slowed down.
One major thing you left out of this otherwise informative video is the added noise that comes along direct drive turntables. It's not such a big deal when DJing in already noisy dance halls and is more than made up for with its more accurate cueing and ability to hold the platter still at your chosen cue point... but in home use and for other times when pristine audio quality is more important, belt drive is the way to go.
Belt drive turntables are rubbish. I have never heard any noise or rumble come from my Technics 1200's. I dont know why they still bother to make belt driven turntables. They are difficult to mix on.
@Kidman848 Because not everybody uses turntables for mixing. If you don't hear the difference between a good belt drive and a direct drive, then perhaps your equipment isn't suited for critical listening.... or maybe your ears are just rubbish. Of course neither of the TTs in this video are particularly great examples of quality direct or belt drive TTs in general.
ive just realized my turn tables are belt drive , though the belt is interbal ...u cant see it...but there is no magnet,,,,grrrrrr.......maybe this is why iam having to constantly beat match
can the direct drive rip vinyl to? And whats better for just playing and recording i thought the direct one would be better since its quicker and looks like it has a better response ?
There's really no point of buying shitty decks dude. You're looking to upgrade so you're probably serious about it. Go for Technics 1200's or at least Numark ttx's
Nice advice thanks :) , not only the "American Aoudio TT" belt drive response with a little delay but it also doesnt have the functions that the KAM DDX-500 :)has.
belt drive TT's transfer less subsonic noise and mechanical chatter compared to direct drive which is why belt drive is superior for proper vinyl ripping purposes. if your going to buy this TT don't bother with the cart+stylus that comes with it its junk. get a Shure M44-G or 7 they provide clean deep bass, vibrant mids and crisp highs and won't reveal as much vinyl crackle which is key for ripping aged records. 2 answer another guy, this TT does not have the torque for scratching, u need direct
technically u cant scratch on a belt drive coz the platter is not sterdey enough and makes the stylus jump and u need a lot of torque coz wen u scratch on a belt the platter stops and u need the platter 2 be moving quick 2 make the different scratch sounds with the pressure and speed u put on the vinyl so it makes it impossible 2 do :)
hahaha, that A.Audio platter looks like a bin lid, so cheap n nasty, eugh. To be fair the Kam one LOOKS exactly the same as a 1200, nt sure if its as well built.
GREAT video, I have 3 cdj's and want to add either a direct drive turntable or buy one of those vinyl recorders. BUT just cannot decide which patch to follow. Do the recorder kind of turntable, + 0r - to the end quality or will the mp3 be about the same.
whenever i stop my technics sl-1200 it never can stop on a dime, in previous videos, i've seen you hit the stop button on a vestax turntable, and it stopped instantly, Just wondering if other people's doesn't stop quickly.
once again, VERY informative video, I learned a lot. I've always wondered what the difference between belt and direct was. It would have been good if you went into a little more detail on the differences other than a delay when 'play' is pressed.
I have an old Pioneer table from the late 70's and it plays but the pitch wavers ever so slightly when the needle goes over a certain spot of the platter when a record is played? Do you think its the belt or something with the turn table itself?
It could be that your turntable is rim drive. That is, it will have a small rubber wheel between the motor and the platter. What used to happen with those is that the rubber wheel would develop a flat spot where it rests against the motor (or the platter) when not being used. The when you do use it, the wheel bumps every time it gets to the flat spot.
im getting numark tt1610's that r belt drive. could i at least scratch/mix with them like a normal dj?

Recording MP3 from a vinyl is *stupid*. At least CD-quality or better (like those 24-bit 96 KHz rips) is acceptable.

Direct Drive are the greatest tables.
If you want your records with the pitch accuracy of cds but with the beautiful sound of vinyl, get a DD.
I can hear the deviations in a belt drive in 2 secs ,even from "audiophile " tables played on You Tube.
I'm thinking of getting a used mk5 technics.
Can't wait any longer lol.
Too much drooling .
