You have to remember that A-HA's songs are F***in' hard to sing! I swear, when you go on a stage, and you have a teeeeeeny bit of nerves... All A-HA songs get realy hard. Because you need steel control, to sing it.. And if you'r foot shakes just a little bit... You're screwed..

the voice is maybe not the same, but it seems to fit better with the song to sing it in a lower tone, but still in the same key, as he does in this video.

They should start playing some of their songs in different keys though. Mortens voice has changed considerably over the last few years. Remember that most of their songs are incredible hard to sing, and since 2003/2004 even Morten has had problems. He's still got that falsetto to help him out, but it doesn't do all the songs justice. True he's had an extraordinary versatile voice in the past, but the man is pushing 50. He ought to giv himself a break and stop trying to sing as if he's 30.

a-ha could really do themselves favours if they ditched the 80s sounding keyboards. The remastered version of Hunting High and Low where orchestration replaces the cheesey synths is 10x better

Well I just found out that a-ha made 2 versions of the song, one for the movie, and the other for the band itself. This was made for the band...Still...when they made there album "Stay on these Roads" which i believe was released in 87 or 88 had the a-ha version of this song, sadly, like you said also, that one sounded better. Oh well even if Morten has lost is 80's voice he is still better then some.
