  • heard that his hands/fingers aren't even flexible enough to tie shoe laces or button shirts but they move differently on the piano.

  • he is the pure distillation of the creator

  • This man is an inspiration in his own way. And for everyone else who thinks he's just blind, look into it a bit more. He's also autistic. This is just amazing how well he can play! :)

  • Yall were high

  • What I love about the videos of this gig is that it looks like Friday night down at pub in any town in the UK.

  • @chrisofnottingham, It is exactly that!

  • there has to be something about being blind that makes you a beastly fucking pianist. ray charles, stevie wonder, and this dude?

  • @erasermcfleafly The visual cortex which would normally process visual information is left with nothing to do, so it processes sound. Gives him at least twice the processing power of a sighted individual.

  • Bizarre talent, amazing.

  • I went to college with this bloke and played with him he's great I saw him on ferns five o clock show he's on tour soon in the us

  • How cool does he look!

  • Nick Let me show you how to sing

  • You should really check out the other videos of him. He was on 60 minutes I think for this unique talent... it doesn't end at his blindness. :O

  • One reason why I love human beings. :D

  • this guy is amazing

  • I can't play this, and i'm not blind!! This guy is so amazing

  • He is blind and he is playing the piano like it is no effort. I love it!

  • wooow! Impressive

  • he keeps nodding at the camera :s but hes cool! haha.

  • @Lucuspiano09

    He's blind

  • @Lucuspiano09 the drums are playing behind the cameraman

  • He's blind. He doesn't know where the camera is.

  • I think you comment was right on!!!!

  • i love this guy

    hes awesome

  • he plays the piano at the carol concerts for a special needs school called Wargrave House in Warrington every year and he is amazing..

he jazzes everything up and the kids at the school love it

  • love the glasses!

  • I'm speechless.

  • this guy is a mystery.....really awesome

  • whats savant?

  • idonthaveacameraXD, a savant is exactly what Derek is! look up "Savant syndrome" on Wikipedia.

  • savant means very intelligent

  • @NobeliDrum um.. depends what u define intelligence.

if it is iq... then well they don't have that. they possess one area of extreme intelligence and like zero in other areas...

  • @idonthaveacameraXD a savant is a person that has an extraordinary talent in a certain area, often time at the expense of their other normal abilities. most of them can't function on their own and needs assistance living.

  • this guy is awesome!

  • Savant!!!

  • Nice....

  • Amen.

  • i like this tune...Derek rocks!!! I can't wait for his Christmas CD

  • Nixart, thank you for posting videos of Derek playing. I can't stop watching!

  • Thank you nady22, Dereks playing is amazing.

It is a blessing to be there recording some of it.

  • hes too good man, and such a great personality!!!

  • The mans just so cool!

  • Yes he is. They talk about Dereks ipod factor in the media. But I don`t think there is any version of "makin whoopee`" with a break touching that!?

    It comes straight from him.

  • I wonder if he was improvising later on in the piece or he was just remembering a recording of the same?

  • Derek is improvising those runs in the middle break as far as I know?

  • I am doing a study about savants, and this guy is amazing.

  • I'd so watch him live..!

  • who filmed this?

  • I did. But it was on a cheap pocket digital camera, so the sound is distorts. Will try to get better video recordings in the future.

  • happy 4/20.

  • It is nice to be happy to see Derek playing.

  • The accuracy of his fingers is amazing! He doesn't even need to feel where his hand is on the keyboard, he just bangs it down and its on the right notes.

  • Does he make a lot of money doing all these concerts? I dont mean like in an exploitation sense, but just that the sheer improvisatin genius is a complete joy to hear!

  • monster0129, I`m not sure if Derek makes a lot of money from concerts? The Station Hotel gig was a free admission event. There was a collection for the band afterwards! There was such a height of joy there, that we reached deep into our pockets!

  • I know he played at Mandalay Bay in Vegas to a sold out audience of 10,000 people and each paid $2000 USD to see him perform.

Sooo, i hope he's getting a little something for his efforts, although i'm not sure he has much use for money... Other than being in a piano store. I imagine that must make him very excited.

  • EnvyMyIgnorance, that Vegas show was in support of the Lili Claire Foundation and it's resource center for the families of children with neuro-genetic disorders.

  • Thanks for the info, and the video :)

I'm amazed by this individual, and other savants.

  • thats like 200,000 dollars!

  • ...... umm... actually... it would be 200,000 dollars if only 20 people saw it =P

    its actually $20,000,000 =D

  • I`m sure Derek has raised lots of money for other people!!

  • wow. thanks.

  • what a huge talent, very special person

  • Derek IS a huge talent. It was a special to be there.
