  • He looks like Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon

  • wow, I am stunned to hear after 11 months that he passed away. I am very sorry for his family and friends cuz' he looks like a nice guy. Always sad to lose another crazy brother with the plastic addiction(like most of us)....

  • That was crushed.

  • Thanks man. I'm actually here in austin. I found out I do have at least on friend that plays. We might go out tomorrow!

  • @pittlePatter right on brotha. Hit them chains for Ian.

  • RIP Ian

  • Disc golf lost a solider. Rest In Peace Ian

  • REST IN PEACE BIG GUY.

  • RIP. I'm sorry to here about your/ the sports loss.

  • How did he die?

  • R.I.P. little bro.

  • I'm sorry to say but we have lost one of the finest disc golfers in the game. Rest in peace brother, ever 100' putt i hit will remind me of you...help me hit them bro.

  • @DannyE5 man ian was a really good friend of mine back in high school. It was really awesome to see all the disk golfers get up and speak at his service. If never been disk golfing myself but I've decided that I'll give it a shot. The only problem is I dont know ANYONE who plays. I once saw Ian throw a disc from the middle of McCallum HS and I saw it land just behinde Dart Bowl. That boy had an arm like no other.

  • @pittlePatter I'm sorry for your loss brother. I saw him throw some monster shots. If you're in VA or MD i would be more than happy to show you what disc golf is all about. Let me know dude.

  • RIP Ian :(

  • such a pretty throw

  • I've had farts travel farther than that, I'll have you know.

  • 450' at the most

  • How many times does he flick his gay ass hair per round?

  • I love Destroyers. You can turn them over hard and they'll still come back and land flat at the end. Nice crush!

  • thats looks like 400feet

  • 450 maybe, great throw but that was all anhyzer and would not have made it across the lake at Winthrop Gold which is a 500+ ft shot. I've seen enough long distance contests to see that.

  • @takman17 ian hovey could have crushed over the lake at winthrop - no problem. i know that much

  • That kid can junk, have seen him play a couple of times. Great frickin talent.

  • When does the 550 ft video come out?

  • @MrWrldpce i know this video seems like an optical illusion in that it doesn't seem to convey a ~550' drive but i'm telling you. The throw was massive, I normally range about 500' on my good ones and sometimes more and i was throwing full power and this one he pumped out was about 80-100' beyond mine. I will try to take him out to a field and just throw some major crushes, you'll see me and my boy anthony put some out at 500-530' and ian will go anywhere between 580-600' easily. maybe a month.

  • EAT MY DICK!!!

  • thats a nice course first off!

i play DG some, but mostly try to throw distance, i have been playing around 8 months now and have broke 600' a few times....that throw is definitly between 500'-540', 7.5 sec flight time, and holding that anhyzer angle all the way until it landed.

  • @t10007mm Nice distance bro! Flight time and flight path alone are not the greatest indicators of distance as there is the missing factor or speed. Flight time can be affected by many factors such as flight elevation, wind speed and direction, revolutions of the disc (snap) and weight in grams. The problem is we don't know exactly how far his throw went. Our guess is over 550 but that may mean right around 550 as well. I've seen him throw farther than that one...soon i'll capture more ; )

  • @DannyE5 I know what you mean, when my throws are around 500, and i time the flight, after watching the video, it always seems to be around 8.3-8.6 seconds, so i can see how some people would think its hard to believe a 550' throw with a 7.5 sec flight time....

  • @t10007mm yeah dude, for me a 500' drive is definitely a big S or sometimes just a long long anhyzer. This dude can throw a 500' hyzer. A 500' hyzer and a 500' anhyzer have different air times and speed. The hyzer will land quicker but reach the same distance, the anhyzer will take it's time becuase it's still fighting to flex back and has two points of extra lift vs one with the hyzer. Plus some throwers use more snap for distance (glide) and some arm speed (aerodynamics) and some both.

  • if you look at that greyish tree on the right. that looks like about 230 feet away(a roc shot). Now look at the end of the bush where that disc went. You can easily see that from the tree,it is more than another roc shot.

    Very nice shot dude!

  • if you look at that gresish tree on the right. that looks like about 230 feet away(a roc shot). Now look at the end of the bush where that disc went. You can easily see that from the tree,it is more than another roc shot.

    Very nice shot dude!

  • @pdga3791 Hey, someone knows about throwing frisbees...finally! Great comment. Yes, I throw around 500...give or take....my other buddy throws about 480 but can reach 500 and our drives didn't even reach the yellow basket you see...this guy throws it well past the yellow basket...cameras are tricky and angles are difficult to cover when you only have one camera.

  • @DannyE5 well somebody with a pdga number this low should now....;-)

  • what does sds stand for?

  • @czechdamuppet SDS stands for Star Destroyer. The previous run of the Star Destroyer had a 5 pointed star drawn on the back of the disc with a DS next to it, a lot of star discs have the star drawn instead of an S to stand for star plastics. The SDS run is a newer run of the Innova Star Destroyer and it is more stable than the previous runs.

  • @DannyE5 i have 4 destroyers..3 stars/1 champ plastic..none say sds just s and ds..i understand sd is star destroyer just curious what the third s stands for...

  • @czechdamuppet Well there is a Dragon and that might be the D. So Destroyer is DS. The older run was *DS and the new more stable one is no longer with a * drawn on it it is just a SDS. S(Star)DS(Destroyer). Sometimes Innova adds periods to things to signify different mold more stable or something like that. Ask your local disc collector they might know.

  • sorry man, thats not 550, more like 430. come play here in charlotte nc if you ever want to try to throw for distance.

  • @dustin9380 Yeah i realize the way i filmed it plus the camera angle makes it look like a shorter distance. Trust me, his throw was well well over 500 feet. I guess i can't prove it but there will be other shots coming in spring where I'll try to showcase his distance. I would love to visit NC but i can throw distance anywhere. I hit 430 with teebirds. This guy can throw a 500+ shot on pure hyzer...that i cannot do. Hell the kid can throw OVER 600...some of his launches seem to reach 700.

  • @DannyE5 its hard to judge distance in videos, props to the kid. keep huckin.

  • @DannyE5

In fact, I'm sure that most of the time his drives exceed 9000 feet. I mean, I throw 8200 feet, and his throw was at least 800 feet farther than mine.

Seriously, you guys are ALL full of shit with your "I throw 500-600 feet" nonsense. If you really can do something like that, then man up and come compete in a real pro-level distance contest. Those are frequently won in the 500 or so foot range, and those are the top guys in the world. You're just a bunch of nobody braggarts.

  • @bekele2617 Ian Hovey passed away. I was never able to measure his drives but I know he that at the grange he went past the basket on hole 1 when it was in the longs (550") or so. I know that I can reach 480-500 consistently and he outdrove me easily by about 50-100 feet. Ian did compete at the top levels. Tyler Horne saw him throw a drive that some claim to be around 700' and was awestruck in disbelief...that's coming from Tyler Horne. Lots of the top pros know who ian was.

  • @DannyE5 That's unfortunate to hear. I guess you'll be able to build Paul Bunyan myths about his disc golf prowess. I hear that his 200 foot approach birdies were like most people's 20 foot putts, and that he once felled an entire forest with his Star Destroyer!

Seriously though, it's incredibly evident that the throw in that video is 1. not close to 550 feet, and 2. is downhill. If Ian had really been throwing 600 ft flat, everyone would have heard about it.

  • @bekele2617 alright, i have no way to measure this shot so i guess we'll never know. He said it was about 550 so i call it 550. We can argue what looks 550 all day but there is no point. Secondly, have more respect for a person who has passed away. Also, no one knows who you are and likely no one will know who you are on the distance field, ask any of the top distance throwers who Ian Hovey is and they will def know exactly who you're talking about. Good luck with your small weewee.

  • @bekele2617 what's unfortunate is your existence... Like the rest of us Ian wasn't perfect, but he was a really good soul and I know for a fact that I've seen him throw right around 600ft multiple times at Moody's in Red Rock. Don't know where that is? Then learn a little more before you write again.

  • @bekele2617 He absolutely could throw 600ft+ (saw him do it repeatedly) and everyone knew about it. Don't run your mouth when you don't know what you're talking about.

  • @bekele2617 I heard about it. It was a pretty known fact that the dude crushes.

  • @bekele2617 wow dude, you have no idea who or what your talking about...grow up and have some damn respect fool!

  • That didn't look like a 550' drive maybe four but you should look at a tape measure sometime.

  • @barnsour yeah, the illusion of that throw not going 550 is due to me trying to zoom on the disc enough to show where it goes but that also means it doesn't get smaller and smaller as one would expect. I can throw at a max of a bout 500 + - 10/15 feet. His crush got me easily by about 80 feet. Ever heard the expression "the camera doesn't do it justice?"

Tape measure is good. I've seen this guy crush well over 600 feet, he hits a few limbs just after his disc starts to turn hard right.
