  • anyone know the title of the song she sings at 3:22 -> ?

  • @Murkula86 Padam Padam by Edith Piaf :)

  • @ellisjuice damn right!

  • @Murkula86 The musical quotation refers to the "At the Manchzuria Hills" item. The song was originally composed by Ilya Shatrov in 1906 and dedicated to his war friends fallen at the Russo-Japan War of 1905. Shatrov was the conductor of the military band and happened to be surrounded by the enemy with other troops. As the story goes, he made his band play to initiate the counter attack. Him and six more soldiers managed to break through.

  • @Murkula86 Search on Youtube with the following line:

    Na sopkah Manchzhurii (1905)

  • One of the best live bands I have ever, ever seen.

  • I wish back these days...

  • I remember this sung by Mary Hopkin back in the 1960s! I like this version though and the video is fun :D!

  • Funny, the tune is an old Russian folk song. Mary Ann Faithful's words are very different from the original, I think. Used to date a Russian guy who told me this.

  • Radical, I'm riding my burro to Russia to join the choir!

  • @zbuckone

the vid plays in Paris. And the Leningrad Cowboys are from Finnland / Suomi !

    ;-)

  • who sang the original?

  • credited to Gene Raskin, who put English lyrics to the Russian gypsy song "Dorogoi dlinnoyu" ("Дорогой длинною", lit. "By the long road"), written by Boris Fomin (1900-1948) with words by the poet Konstantin Podrevskii. It deals with reminiscence upon youth and romantic idealism. The first known recording of the song was by Alexander Vertinsky in the 1920s. The song is best remembered for Mary Hopkin's 1968 recording, which was a top-ten hit in both the U.S. and the U.K.

  • @vintage1962 Thank you for the information. You are apparently very knowledgeable.
