I purchased the Gi-Joe box set last year, best purchase I have made so far. Also when they made the live action movie did they even read the comic or watch the cartoon?Because that movie was IMO a pile of sh_t.
Gijoe must have been made up of the most useless troops in the military all that shooting and they never hit anybody the death toll on both sides should be staggering with all that close quarter combat .
@mroracal I know! And they were supposed to be like top secret but they dressed in flashy white trash attire and stuff and Cobra knew they existed! so why not just reveal their identities to fuck'em up? And they let Shipwreck and a prowrestler like Sgt. Slaughter join just like that! Not even the K-Mart security guards let you join just like that.
@maldicientin The first few characters weren't all that flashy. But, as the comic and cartoon went on, they added a lot of others that were more and more outrageous. They even had one dressed like a drunk civilian! It's a shame too. With all the REAL hardware they could have based Joes equipment on, they ended up going for the garish there too. When they started using neon colors, I lost interest.
@mroracal Yeah! I know! They always saw the missles streakign towards them in time to parachute to safety! LOL! Of course, the same thing happened with A-Team and we all sat there every Tuesday night at 8 oclock PM EST to watch that one as well! LOL!
Peach Wookie actually they do not if they had any backbone, but these are the days we are living in.... No Back Bones. I loved Gi Joe when I was growing up in the 80s. The stuff kids have now is crap. Maybe not by today's standards but to ours.
@PeachWookiee That is true But I miss my missspent youth... we had some serious toons back then and now it is just a mess. Well that is my opinion. Have a blessed day
@Mollierebecca You aren't the only one who misses the days when cartoons ran in the afternoons instead of talk shows on local channels... When Saturday mornings were events... When the network suits and affiliates cared enough to try... Some cartoons are close to what we had, but they aren't the same as the bash 'em up slugfests we had...
Wow man, after all these years..i mean..what? 20 years, i still fricking sang and talked alone missing only one small part, its fricking amazing how much this show was a huge part of my childhood, even to this day. Great post!
Man takes me back to my childhood! Same here - I sang the whole song too - I haven't seen intro since it was canceled! That was a huge part of MY childhood too. I had almost every single action figure and toy. I had the same feeling with watching transformers for the first time in almost 20 years too . Remember how transformers followed GIJoe when it aired? That was the best hour of my life each week when I Was a kid!
You had that too? That WAS the best hour when i was a kid, and it was after school, so it was made even better. Get home, throw school crap aside, grab snack and have an hour of great shows. I had most of the GiJoe and Transformer toys too at the time, probably the only two shows, aside from Star Wars, that i begged my mom for, lol.
I remember how PC this cartoon was. No one ever got killed. They'd spray gunfire & never hit the enemy. If an enemy plane got hit, they'd ALWAYS show the pilot bailing out.
Back in the 80s the FCC had rules about childrens programming that forbade the showing of characters getting killed.Thats why no one died plus if you are hasbro having characters killed is not good for the bottom line
not only that, but theres so many standards and pratices in place, even in live action tv shows, that it destroys many great shows, other are killed by those who think they know best, it's all sad...
and it's still the same, no, worse today, so stupid the restrictions on shows in america, those restriction killed almost every show, that and stupid ideas by those in piower, assuming they know best
You gotta love how none of the bad guys ever get killed- not even PRESUMABLY killed. They have to show them parachuting from their flaming aircraft, or being thrown from explosions and then rolling on the ground.

Wow Americans never seize to amaze me LOL. Cartoons advertising American terroristm, the real terrorism of the world AND in funimation. Yes "GI joe was there" in every other country that was bombed by the American heroes. Land and air, Americans will blow you up. Faceless and heartless, GI joe the American will bomb you all. Never giving up, until everyone's done for, GI JI, the American hero, GI JOE will get you. GI JOOOOE

This one was the best mini-series. Lady Jaye "replaced" Scarlett as the main lady focus. I hated that. Scarlett is light years better than Tom Boy Lady Jaye!
@CaptainBuckRogers You know why Lady Jaye replaced Scarlett, don't you? Sunbow foolishly tried to pair Scarlett with Duke in the cartoons while she was already with Snake Eyes in the comics, figuring that Snake Eyes' muteness would make things difficult for the animators. Larry Hama refused to change the Snake Eyes/Scarlett storyline when Duke was finally introduced in the comics, so the cartoons had no backstory to draw upon. So they dropped Scarlett and went with Flint/Lady Jaye.
This is the original lyrics ..."GI Joe against Cobra and Destro..." it was changed in the next season due probably to the "Cobra" referred to was the whole organization, not cobra commander himself.
Do you happen to know anywhere I can download that theme; the one that says "Cobra, the Enemy"? I have searched a long time for it and this one is the only one I can find...
I finally found the correct theme I was looking for; the one with "Cobra the Enemy" in the lyrics. But, I didn't know you could download a video from here like that. Thanks for the info!
I love Cobra Commander. He was my dude. I just loved him so much, I liked his voice which just happened to be Starscream from Transformers and I loved him too..... I was a Thundercats, GI Joe, Transformers kinda chick growing up. I miss all the 80s cartoons. They need to bring all of them jainks back.

The one bad message in this cartoon is that the US is always the 'patriotic' dude which the world will always look up to. Well, America makes mistakes Just like the rest of the other nations do. And their so-called "Real American Hero" phrase really pisses people off. So I guess it's a bad idea to make a film based on cartoon.
How could "Real American Hero" upset people? Being patriotic is a bad message? Give me one example of when the cartoon says the world will always look up to the US. The US has never made a mistake, so you can't be serious - everyone knows that. Transformers, Scooby Doo, Batman, Dennis the Menace, The Flintstones, Garfield, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.......
It's just more political correctness rearing it's ugly head. Complaining about a 25 year old cartoon series proves only one thing; that some people have way too much time on their hands. Maybe if they did something constructive with their time some of the REAL problems in the world might be solved by now.
This is a story illustrating the "WOT" long before Alkida became a household word!
G.I. Joe went above and beyond ordinary military. It fought an enemy that wanted to conquer the world.
Cobra is Alkida today. Special Forces are the cornerstone. Though the Iraq war is shit, the WOT is real! All countries make mistakes. Yet, when it comes to stopping tyranny, defending human rights, and making sure that events such as 9/11 "happens again" - no one pulls it together better then us...
