my finch layed 4 eggs and 2 ended up on the floor broke, however the 1st one to hatch was finch until the parents began pecking at it and it ended up dead, the other one hatched aswell and was pushed out, i put it back in and it was pushed out again and was missing a foot, i set up a brooder box and its a little warmer than 90 degrees, i think it will be able to walk when its grown despite its missing foot, what should i do at night wake up every 30 mins to feed it? i really want to save it
you should do nothing except a drop of water the first 24 to 48 hours , the chick needs to absorb it's yolk sac, but after that use a commercial hand feeding formula. and you need to keep it quite warm and fairly moist the first week ( my other video on how to make a incubator should help")
The best method for feeding!!! They are so tiny and tender. I see others trying syringe feeding new hatchlings and I don't think the birds lived. People think I am crazy too because I rescude and handfed my zebra finches. Wonderful reward when they all survive!
syringe feeding is ok , as long as it isn't pushed into the crop. I prefer squirting the food into the mouth and allowing the bird to fully swallow then giving more only when it starts begging again , that way I know it has a clear wind pipe. I don't feed on a schedule, I feed when the crop is almost empty allowing a full empty once every 24 hours. It takes longer, but with these methods I have never punctured or burned a crop. never had sour crop and never have aspirated a bird. ever.
my friends and relatives think I'm more crazy than dedicated , thank you for the nice comment You should check out my other videos of tame hand raised finches. I think you will like.
1st half of the first day after hatch I don't feed (they live off thier yolk sacks) day 11/2 to day 3 , I feed about every hour. till about a week and a half old ,then I feed every time the crop is almost empty, with a total empty once every 24 hours. I continue hand feeding till as adults around 45 days old they start refusing formula and are eating seed and drinking water on thier own ,
