I have to say thank you, from a Canadian English teacher living in China. That was awesome. I love cooking, and I use onions for soups, stews, meatloafs, sandwiches, etc.
Nothing short of spectacular. I will teach my students and kids this method.
Thank you. I knew there had to be a better way and I've found it after watching your video. Thanks for the huge tip! Btw, I'm just a regular kitchen person too. I liked that.
wow i have watched quite a few onion cutting vids, by 'pro cooks' and this one has worked by far the best. i have to cook for my host familys kids and this will definetly help. thanks!
That's great! I was actually looking for a recipe with onions and i found this video by accident. Thanks for the tip. I do something similar to that but yours looks easier, i'm going to try it.
cut your onions next to your stove and turn your hood fan on max. should do the trick. also an extremely sharp knife will help minimize tears. sharpen your knife any time you're about to cut an onion.
That helps because of convection which pulls the fumes towards the flame and out of your eyes. Youtube alton brown how to cut an onion. He explains why you "cry" and the best way to avoid it. Also one thing he doesn't mention is to wash an onion after you cut it in half, this washes away most of the acids that make the fumes.
Your eyes burn (and everyone elses) because you cut off both ends before you cut the onion. Don't cut off the "bottom" end until the very last moment and you'll reduce the burning by 95%!
This was excellent. My hubby, a chef, was even impressed. Thanx for sharing!
