  • I remember diving here in the summer, fortunately it wasn't anywhere near this bad, but it was still a pain in the ass to get out of!

  • I see a lot of divers who are well qualified but very unfit and slightly retarded. By that i mean the kind who don't do sport very well. Some people are just physically useless and unfortunately you don't need to do many physical tests to get diving qualifications as they are mostly theory and simple under water tasks. Water is very powerful and i'd imagine a lot of people would have struggled to climb that ladder. That is why it's important to be well tuned and physically able as a diver

  • yea girlslikdivin24 but there are good scuba diving stories on the net also. The myscubastory site has dive accident videos and stories, along with lots of other videos and stories on diving! Type mscubastory into google, and its the first one! enjoy

  • Oh, they are experienced--now.

  • hahahaahahahah che pendejo

  • I do reqqa nearly 60 times every summer. its an awesome dive site :)

  • poor scuba guy.....

  • HAHAHAHA stupid shit!!

  • hey surfgirl19 you can also get good dive stories on the net. Try the myscubastory site. Type myscubastory into google and its the first one

  • Simple to get out ,, just common sense and some experience needed... jus remove your fins.... would be out in a few steps.... Bloody amateurs,,,, wheres the instructor???

  • Man, that is some chop. Like Chop Suey is what you will be comming out.

  • I was waiting for his mask to come flying off when he put it on his head like that...

  • It is a lot harder than it looks

  • @Vesivian I'm sure it was a lot harder than it looks but simple common sense tells u that removing your fins before climbing a ladder makes sense... especially if you wanna get out fast! This guy obviously has not fear of the sea - a silly thing to do!

  • Ludzie największy błąd popełnili ci którzy zamontowali tak chu....wą drabinkę zdjąć płetwy przy takim falowaniu to dopiero zakończenie nurkowania zgodnie ze sztuką.Chcącym w ten sposób wychodzić życzę powodzenia.

  • なにやってんだ???

  • Bit of a catch 22 but the fins had to come off! When I dud my open water the instructor was getting pounded on the rocks and I managed to get out, strip to wet suit and mask and snorkel and help her out of the water. Needless to say I passed! ;)

  • I experienced something like this, scary stuff. The weather could have seriously deteriorated during the dive so u cant always say he should never have been there. Also after a dive you may be really tired and holding on is tough.

  • All very well taking the P out if this guy but until you have experienced getting up a ladder in full divegear and weights then maybe best to keep quiet. My reaction as a diver is that conditions were dangerous and if this was the only exit point, then you shouldn't have been diving there.I do hope that no Malta diveguides or instructors were involved in this particular fiasco and I hope the guy got out OK .

  • you wouldnt want to be knocked in the water and have no fins on either, what a dangerous exit point

  • well you could go to the end of the stairs (underwater), take your fins of there, hold on and just climb the ladder.. but you'll have to hold on very tight. and fight to stay on the ladder ;)

  • thats reqqa point, gozo.

what he should have done is dont jump in that weather !!!

  • noob. he should have took his fins off

  • I guess he was trying to do it, wasn't he? but doesn't look easy in this conditions, is true it can happen to anyone, don't be arrogant.

  • yeah, if he was trying why shouldnt he take them off while he was in the sea ?

  • Are you fucking retarded? If he would of taken his fins off and then fell in the water again he couldn't get back to shore by himself.

  • exactly.....he wouldn't have gotten ripped off ladder with alll four on rungs!!!

We have entry/exit like that by Kokohead (Oahu, Hawaii).....always rough water, got figure how to negotiate!!

  • poor guy...anyway sometimes the sea can go rough suddenly with no previous evidence, can happen to anyone!

  • take ur fins off???

  • Balls>Brains

  • hahah that looked fun

  • Not very smart to try climb out with all that gear on!

  • all that effort he was probably saying some terrible things on the way down lol.

  • I like the guts of the guy....I am an instructor and I wouldn't take my students to this ladder, but if I was on my own.... yes I would give it a go, put a bit more adrenaline in the sport I say, I thought it was a good effort considering the conditions, hope the dive was worth it........owe and I would have taken my fins off, kept reg and mask in place...... good fins have straps on them so u can put your hands through them.....

  • silly boy

  • damn that looks rough...shouldn't he/she have taken their fins off?

  • well, imagine: you took off your fins

->1. Where to place them? Holding in the hand???

2.when a wave flushs you back in the water you can't really move without fins.

  • Fin holders are a great idea.

  • INJORANT MILL-KBAR.

  • The problem here was that these 'experts' should have made sure they could exit the water safely before starting the dive. It is one of the most basic rules in diving. Evidently the conditions were too rough for a safe exit so perhaps they should have considered not diving there in the first place. But hey, what do I know?

  • what an idiot. No more brains then a big dog

  • Hey Blitz, Instructors die every year on Gozo often because they ignore local advise eg. the unfortunate course director at Xwejni Bay.

Qualification is not a shield of invulnerability as this demonstrates.

If you dive Reqqa, take local advise and remember the land sea breeze effect as the island warms up during the course of the day.

If it is marginal when you go in it will probably be more marginal when you come out !

  • Hi Chris .... nice that you have found our movie from Reqqa :-) E.

  • @cdlgrainger and lets remember that instructor courses actually are "sold" too easly, and if you pay enogh you can be ...too easy

  • Ouch

  • read what was said below... you're more of a danger to others without them, some poor bastard has to come in and get you.

  • a Good one. I'd rather try and get up the ladder with fins on, than take them off and lose all ability to get to an exit point when the big wave hits him.

  • actually, i know the guy in this video. he's a master instructor, and he was last of 7 divers *he* got out of the water safely.

If you've ever dived Reqqa, you'd realise that it's susceptible to high winds, and strong currents, and the conditions can turn significantly in less than ten minutes...

you wouldnt the surface conditions know if you're following the reef round at 30m's...

  • How, to learn the hard way

  • ouch lol

    how do get out

  • lololololololololololololololololololololololol i would say take ur fins off m8 but every1 seems to have beat me 2 it, funny how taking fins off makes a difference

  • This video ist taken at Reqqa Point.

There are often waves an it ist not easy to get out of the water.

But no trained Diver should try to climb a ladder with fins on.

Normally there ist no ladder ( there are several ladders lying on the ground around this place) and you have to climb the rocks a few meter from this positon.

This is also much easier than the ladder!

  • ...blevin13 on ur "NAUI dumb ass PADI rules" comment. i dont even kno where to start with that. haha why dont you look up the history of both, and see how NAUI came first, and how PADI standards are below those of NAUI. and as for the exit, i saw a lot better places they coulda put that ladder. and as for diver....dont even get me started.

  • LOL!! hahaha i know this is dangerous but LOLOLOLOLOL!!! ROFLMAO!! haha oh man that was great LOL!! haha thanks for the laugh this is hilarious!! LOL!! And next time take off your fins and carry em hehe, lol hahaha! Thanks for sharing!! :)

  • you take your fins off... you have no control if you get swept out. you're a moron.

  • Exactly. Can't climb a ladder with your fins on!

  • Here's a tip - take your fins off!

  • my hotel was right next to there. I recognise it.

  • I come from that god forbidden country i almost died there once!

  • Ok So i am 14 i am a Advanced Diver and the first thing every Diver should know is TAKE OFF YOU FINS BEFORE GOING UP A LATTER OK it common sense you do it in the pool on your dives so you DUMB ASS need to go back to school Feel better......Reed the Book again NAUI OR PADI your might be with NAUI Dumb ass PADI rules

  • "might be with NAUI Dumbass PADI rules"

Is that a joke? NAUI is recognized internationally as the more professional program. An Advanced PADI diver has only just reached the lvl of the NAUI basic Diver. Only cool thing about PADI is it's quick. PADI still teaches stupid shit in their advanced classes like "you only have to O2 service clean a tank if the O2 concentration is above 40%" NAUI 23.5 limit (limit tank manufac's set) I'd never knock a PADI diver but if one knocks NAUI they're stupid.

  • PADI Rules??? A 14-year old getting his license of "advanced diver" isn't giving an image of being serious, you ever dive in open sea?

  • DIVE SAFE

  • jajajaja ffs LMFAO DUDE!!

  • oh my god tat is so dangerous... i might have trouble on the surface n nvr be able to climb up there.. you're wet n heavy with gears n waves pounding on u...

  • I would be ticked if i was that guy, no one was helping, just pointing and laughing. Well i dont blame em

  • i hate that!! that was dangerous!

  • he needs to read the swells better

  • omg heres a wave!!!

  • shit that sucks, lol

  • lol bad luck just not the right day ay

  • LOL !

  • take your fins pff when you can hold onto the ladder, sling them on your shoulder and then climb normally

  • you have a chance of losing your fins if you do that!!!! ZOMG!!!

  • Just another scenario where "Amphibian" (Flip Fins) are the must!!!

  • DUMBASS

  • waves and divers are`nt best friends.=P

  • Which moron puts a ladder where the waves smash the strongest?

  • lol, good question ;)

  • he didnt put it there thats obviously a diving exit where owners have put a ladder there so blame the owners NUB!!!

  • dumb fuck

  • çıkart o paletleri salak herif

  • where's his boddy ?? incredible shit ! it's impossible to climb it with all the material and moreover after a dive !

  • always got to think safety

  • where is his biddy? He should take the regulator in his mouth!

  • the correct name for that guy is noob

  • Super Noob with the powers to being noob

  • Thats exactly why I have a fin clip on my bc!

  • Prat what more can you say. if that's the only entry to this site then find a new site for that day. Say the wave had taken him when he slipped and smashed his scull against the ladder rendering him unconscious, what then. Now you have a injured, unconscious diver in that swell and you have to get him out fast. Or say his reg got traped between the lader and the rock thats not cheap equipment to have busted from a un sutible entry point. To many what if's for that dive I say.

  • Ouch. I can see why he was reluctant to take fins off tho. If he'd got knocked off the ladder and lost them he'd really have been up the creek. That's a pretty hairy exit, but I reckon I've seen/done a few that were as bad. Anyone every tried Chesil Beach, Dorset, England in rough weather?

  • why not take of his fins ?! I always do that before i go up

  • Lets all hope this "person" is not allowed to reproduce.

  • anyone who doesn't believe that the mediterranean can go from calm to like this video in less than an hour has never lived next to the ocean.

  • fuckin right

  • I'm sorry but any diver should know that swell like that over the exit point should make the dive site a danger to dive.

  • Yes, stupid exit, so stupid, he doesn't even exit, why does he not exit?

  • We were taken there by a guide. It looked rough but we were assured it was an easy exit. We chose not to dive as we didnt want to risk injury. we returned 2 days later and dived. It was calmer on entry but after 60 minutes was like the video. We removed fins swam to ladder one at time. With timing some luck and upper body effort we all got out safely. We complained to the dive centre. They should be more aware of local conditions and not advising this site unless 100% sure it will be calm.

  • The diver in question was infact an instructor with one of the Marsalforn dive centres; thought he was more experienced than he was. He got out ok though. As to it being rough there, yes it can get very rough, but not from calm to that in 50 mins.

  • lolz!!he het hes head on all the step on the way down!

  • On ladder exits like that you need to watch the surf and normally coordinate with a appointed wave watcher on top for "Brace" and "Move" commands. Obviously here there was none.

  • god i hope he got back alriite

  • I dont believe that the sea becomes that rough in a matter of minutes from a calm state, anyway,if that happened then exiting using that ladder is insane.its just asking for trouble going up with all the gear on.

  • Of course the conditions do not change from calm to rough in a matter of minutes but as I have watched by myself they have definitly changed from diveable to not divable in about 45-60 minutes....

  • hi,im a 2 star CMAS diver.I have to say that this was the worst dive plan i ever seen. This dive should off never been undertaken with a rough sea like that. And secondly;the exit was totaly wrong.i would of searched the area and find a proper exit point.if not,a boat would be an alternative.but with the sea like that i would look at a different location,or learn to listen to weather forcasts before planning a dive.

  • The dive situation in Gozo especially at that site changes in minutes due to wind conditions.

But a couple of just open water divers went out at the same exit and they had a proper dive plan. So they came out of the water in nearly the same conditions and had no problems during the exit.....

But as those guys also had CMAS certification we thought that the would listen to any advices we shouted at them ..... but as you see ... no luck at all....

  • I am maltese and this is in Marselforn in Gozo. i swim here every summer and it is rough at times but really calm at others. and yes maltese women are hot!!

  • hahahahaha

  • was it a good dive,, i personaly would not have dived in that condition,,but every1 is to their own,,did he swim around to another exit point,,??

  • Just ridiculous. You should never dive Reqqa Point in swell like that for exactly that reason. It might be one of the best shore dives on Gozo, but wait until tomorrow when the wind will have changed!

  • That video definately does not tell expirience level at all. That was an extremely difficult exit in rough waters. After a long dive...the diver is tired, and heavy with wet geat.Go ahead and try to climb up a SUPER SLIPPERY ladder covered with alge while tired and wet and with 60 lbs of gear.I agree, take your fins off before you get to the ladder, but again, easier said than done.Remember a diver is dead in the water without fins!Hopefully the diver was not injured, but it looked pretty bad.

  • love malta, and those lovely women there

  • Now that's dangerous. I actually went diving at the same spot last summer, and I still remember that ladder. But even if the guy in the video would have taken his fins off, he could still have been hit by that wave. I'd say keep your regulator in your mouth and keep your BCD inflated until you are safe on land.

  • Take your fins off before you hit the ladder! You can barely climb a ladder with fins in the best conditions let alone with surf pounding you! Jeez!

  • People like this shouldn't scuba dive! IDIOTS

  • hahahahha

  • Easier said than done but as soon as you get a hand on the ladder, your first priority is getting your fins off and over your wrist. Rather you than me though - that looked horrid!

  • right, easier said than done...I had a similar experience but I was among rocks and could not find a way to swim to the shore...I was really funny if you looked at me from the beach, but that's not that funny when you are still in :)
