  • @singernaloa I don't know if this is too late, but the way I made it is not something to emulate. I learn from my mistakes: the glass is too thin. I should have used 1/4" glass. And for anyone interested in building one, don't use the string like I did. I thought I could use it as a handy way to store the bars, but it caused so many problems in the end. Instead go simple: if you can figure our a system to put some sort of foam down, then the bars on top go for it. Search "marimba de vidro"ggle.

  • Nice instrument! :) And what the heck is going on in the background with the screaming at around the 0:57 mark??? :)

  • @kooslap I was wondering if someone would pick that up. I think it was just my brother doing something stupid and my father getting upset.

  • what is the thickness of glass you used?

  • how thick was the glass?

  • I'm making one myself, some challenges with how to support the bars,

so that they won't move away from their position.

And still will keep the good sound - not gluing them to the rubber support...

I guess you position them on a wire/rope? Did you glue them to it?

Can you tell What is the (average) width of the bars?

Length of the low C and High C, and the thickness of the glass?

    Thanks a lot !

  • Try using a really hard yarn mallet perhaps, it'll soften up the attack a little but it won't scuff the glass. I'd really like to hear it with the resonators though, the glass has a cool timbre and I'd like to hear it with long sustained notes

  • What did you use to cut the glass with, and how did you know the dimentions? It sounds and looks great!

  • @drumchick06 I used a glass cutter. The width stays the same throughout (although that I recently found out doesn't affect the pitch at all) and the length I guess on, cutting off slivers and then breaking of bits until the pitch was good enough.

  • do you know the math for it? Like if you cut out one bar, could you do the math to know the exact dimensions to cut the other bars?

  • @Drillogicaldrummer No, but I think I would for the next one. I made this because I was just learning how to cut glass, and decided to make a set of notes just by shortening them until they sounded right. Even I did do the math I would still have to fine tune it in some sort of glass grinder to get the most accurate pitch.

  • ?how do you make those?

  • @Drillogicaldrummer you cut glass to different lengths. Honestly, it's easier than making a wooden marimba.

  • It's good. Post more when it's done.

  • @Quztuk It's done.
