I just got a flash for Christmas and it is honestly the most amazing thing I could have ever gotten for my camera. I was considering getting a new camera or a new lens, but just this flash alone has made me feel like I have a way more expensive camera and all of my pictures look so pro now!
I've been watching and studying tutorials and videos for a while now, and yours are some of the best I've seen. Easy to understand, yet very informative. I do a little photography as a hobby, and if I had found these first, I wouldn't have had to spend so much time reading and searching the net. Thanks so very much. You're an inspiration to photographers and us wannabe's everywhere!
Great video,im a very amatuer photographer and have used a speedlight for a short while.Im possibly the least technical photographer around, but have noticed so much difference using a speedlight.I might not understand a lot of techy photography stuff, but i know one of these can really improve the look of your photos.
Use High speed sync mode. It it a little lightning bolt with a "h" next to it. In this mode the flash will stay illuminated for the duration of the shutters pass. Hope this helps
I may be asking something that was already discussed, but once my speedlight is on it automatically reduces shutter speed to 200 when in manual mode. If I want to use this as fill flash outside with f2.8 100-200 iso and shutter of say 400+ how would I do so without it bumping my shutter to 200 everytime
That looks like a 580EZ Canon flash. I got one of those used for 25 dollars here in Japan. Great flash for on-camera bounce. You have to use it in manual mode - it doesn't do TTL - but that 's fine for me.
I have a nikon DSLR, and I am looking to purchase a flash for my baby, but I am not sure what kind or which model I should buy. I really like the way how Robert explained the usage of bounce light, and I am looking into it. with my budget being $200-250 any good flash people would recommend? anyone?
@ny1fanta I would highly recommend for you to save some more and get the best one on the market now SB900. I have done my research, got it and I'm very happy with it. If you spend money on anything cheaper and older, it will cost you more in the long run.
Hi, thank you for your tutorials they are so helpful. one quick question. to you recommend using the built in flash defuser when bouncing of wall? when is a good time to use the defuser? Thank you!
OMG! U are the only 1 that I''ve wanted to watch again & again. I've taken photos (of family & friends mostly) since I was 18 & I'd been searching (or crossing my fingers to meet anyone) that could explain these photography questions for years! And finally, the stars aligned just right & I saw you on YouTube. Not only do you have the brains & experience, you have the charisma that seals the deal. Plan to watch you more.Thanx for planting the seed! Happy w/ my Nikon D80, tripod, flash & YOU! -dpg
Hi I love your videos and tips. I am still using film and want to use fill in flash using a mamiya c330 TLR and a Metz c45 flash gun. What confuses me as that I know you fool the flash gun by setting the speed setting to a stop faster. I have been setting my aperture to f5.6 in day light without flash can I still do this with fill in? I am confused that the setting on the flash gun top says I have to be about 15m away from subject, which would be too far. Can you help please thanks.

Thanks bud, just got the 580EX, this is the exact video I was looking for. I was sick of all the videos that just show the features, your video shows how to use it and some techniques. Thanks for being real!
Fantastic videos!!! I've really learned a lot from you. Quick question, is it possible to control the flash? I mean controlling how powerful you want it.
Hi man. I am a fan of you. great tutorials. if I have that kind of camera I would probably apply all your tutorial. all I have is a typical type of camera with fixed shutter speed, ISO etc.. great work. God bless you.
hey great videos. I do graphic design and my company wanted to stop paying so much for stock photos so they got me a camera. its a Nikon D3000 with a 18 - 55mm lens with all types of buttons and settings and dials and histograms and what not. they just plopped it in my lap and said "okay, now take amazing pictures of shit" lol. Your videos have helped me to go from wtf - to "aaaah i see now'. thanks a lot. Im ganna get the DVD and support
@munirh44 Cool I hope they give you a raise. Tell them I will come train you personally $2,000 plus travel expenses. If they will pay me more I will take it =o)
I know your a Canon guy, but due to your great communication skills, I sure wish you go over, in detail, how to use a Nikon Speedlight. All the modes and settings are really confusing for a beginner.
So I'm in a photo class where we are using film and I don't understand how I could meter the camera while using the flash. It seems like it would be over-exposed. Is there some kind of +/- f-stop rule or does it not have an effect on the metering? I'm using film so I can't really experiment easily and all my photos are graded so any help would be appreciated
been sitting here with a pen n notepad for over an hour watching your stuff. Very educational. lots of information presented by a very positive and energetic personality. kudos.
What if the ceiling is high.. how do I use bounce?
