Afganistán es donde tengo mi familia origen por lo que esta también es algo personal - laico, social y democrático de política progresista no se le dio la oportunidad de tener éxito, probablemente debido a la premura con que los dirigentes del PDPA se dedicaban a sus reformas internas. besos :)

...I think that the system in the Republic of Turkey had been an important model in the gender liberation/equality declarations of Taraki and Hafizullah Amin...western dress was very common in the cities....and the programme of the PDPA was actually highly popular in Kabul - the promotion of education and healthcare, social security and land ownership reform, which would have been beneficial to the majority workers who had cultivated the land...they were simply duped!

The British invaded with their tribal bandits from the south & restored the Pashtunist monarchy - though with a different monarch. USSR was no friend of the mass.

How does a traditional, VERY religious, country like Afghanistan reconcile itself with communism? Anyway, the US should have never gotten involved in that country. Let the Afghanis figure out for themselves what kind of country they want. By supporting the mujahadeen we made a mistake- because after they were through with the Soviets they came after us.

in a country which (at that point) was still underdeveloped and so badly needed the transport system - those famous electric Czech Skoda trams, for instance combined with power and electrical (re)generation combined the programme of finally achieving gender equality/liberation - the teaching, pharmacy and civil service professions were female orientated at that point - itself, a testament to the success of the PDPA, among others.

The PDPA implemented their domestic programme the wrong way (in failing to foresee the radical fanatical right-wing conservative resistance)- this was also helped by the warped perception that somehow Taraki and Amin etc were operating an 'anti-Islam regime'?!....they were though, too eager in their haste to bring about the much needed social and economic reforms -...

the educated and intellectual classes from Afghanistan are now living abroad....those that have remained have literally zero levels of education, partly due to the totally misguided and irrational nature of what was to follow after Saur 1978 and the PDPA years until 1992, thanx to the radical Islamists refusal to allow modernity to take its course - a secular, progressive, social democratic republic would have been right for AFG at that time and right today, if they had any sense -

but that era shown in this video was a time of heightened superpower rivalry, so what happened, happened - it would have been interesting to see how successful the domestic programme of the PDPA would have been had the Soviet Union not intervened in the way they did...killing Taraki, then Amin was highly detrimental to this

...I think that the system in the Republic of Turkey had been an important model in the gender liberation/equality declarations of Taraki and Hafizullah Amin...western dress was very common in the cities....and the programme of the PDPA was actually highly popular in Kabul - the promotion of education and healthcare, social security and land ownership reform, which would have been beneficial to the majority workers who had cultivated the land...they were simply duped!

Recuerdo que para poyar la invasión soviética G, Marchais presidente del PCF argumentó que en Afganistán todavía se ejercía el derecho de pernada. No sé cuál habría sido la estrategia adecuada par un país de este tipo; pero sé que, a luz de los eventos actuales y lo acaecido con el régimen talibán la estrategia imperialita soviética no fue la correcta.

I can´t share your optimism about the Soviet Union intervention in Afghanistan. First, i want to make clear that I believe in the necessity of violence if you want to chang radically the society. But I can´t understand how this soviet's Vietnam could be defended. This imperialist war (soviet and U.S. imperialism) opened the door to a very regressive fundamentalist dictature.
