Russell is hands down the best player in Survivor history. He wasn't playing for the money, but to show the world how to really play the game of survivor. He led ALL of the blindsides and succeeded. He was a true puppet master, and if it weren't for him, Natalie and Mick would never have made it to the end of the game. Russell is in fact the true SOLE SURVIVOR. He outwited, outplayed, and outlasted his opponents to the end. He's a warrior, soldier, and a FIGHTER! His name is Russell Hantz!
I'd love to see Russell go against Richard Hatch. Especially if they were in seperate tribes. (i.e. bring 16 new people and divide them into two tribes and put Russel in one and Richard in the other). That is if/when Richard is off probation.

Russell played the best game he made all the moves, and in most cases like 99 percent if you give a good jury speech you win the game, this is why Todd won the game he had a great jury speech and why Boston Rob lost because he didn't have a good jury speech, but in Russes case he had a great speech just a bad jury, and for that he probably deserves to win heros vs villains.
You just described how to win for homecoming queen. Unfortunately, a lot of jurors on Survivor are confused on that point, too. 20 seasons in, and folks still don't get that it's a strategy game.

In Survivor, I don't care much about deserving, I care about what works. And being the least threatening to the loudest Finals goat sure worked. And it helped to be nice to the people who'll vote for you as well.
As for the jury, they owe nothing to the players. The players have the responsibility of making sure the votes go their way and not someone else's.

if you watch a lot of the tapes of most of the Galu tribe when they are taken to Ponderosa after they're ousted, most of them are bitter. they would've had their mind made up by the time they went to Tribal. revenge, give the girl who did hardly anything and was nice the title.

I suggest you look at the interviews of his alliance-mates. They'd know better.

@SugarCrazeify I think that's when you know when you see a truly great player, when you start questioning the very foundation the game is based upon. If america would of voted he would of won both times. Russel is by far the best strategic player but Mariano said it best: Russel plays a great game to get to the end but he doesn't play to win. Sadly he'll never win but I think he'll be ok financially. I'm not worried. :)Great 20 th season btw.

To everyone saying Russell wouldn't last with the "big dogs" on Heroes vs Villians your all idiots. I hope you enjoyed watching the tribal council tonight when Russell blindsided Boston Rob completely on his plan and got Tyson voted out. Rob looked like the biggest idiot saying "welcome to the big leagues" he just got taught a thing by Russell. Robs face was priceless, he looked like he was about to piss himself. Russell is the best survivor ever.

Russell played the best game he made all the moves, and in most cases like 99 percent if you give a good jury speech you win the game, this is why Todd won the game he had a great jury speech and why Boston Rob lost because he didn't have a good jury speech, but in Russes case he had a great speech just a bad jury, and for that he probably deserves to win heros vs villains.

anyone that thinks russell played the best game is a bozo. russtroll didn't realize a few crucial things to win:
(1) insulting people, acting cocky, and making and breaking alliances with everyone is no way to get people to like you
(2) people are not going to vote for you if they dont like you
and
(3) you have to have people to vote for you in order to win
(4) the only people that liked him were shambo (jury), mick (finals), natalie (winner.)
(5) natalie played a better social game.

You just described how to win for homecoming queen. Unfortunately, a lot of jurors on Survivor are confused on that point, too. 20 seasons in, and folks still don't get that it's a strategy game.
Natalie got the "not Russell" vote. On the Survivor Samoa ballon, she was balast.

@testodude It's not the jury's job to "understand" the game. Juries will always have their own criteria and it's up to the finalist to know the jury's standards and play accordingly.

the only honorable jury members were shambo and john. they both looked past their grudges in the game and voted for the true winner. the rest were a bunch of sore, crybaby losers who were too butthurt to give the title to who deserved it.

@CerialSquirrel That doesn't make any sense. They were never even betrayed by Russell. Only Jaison and the two who voted for him were the ones he backstabbed. That argument doesn't hold any water at all.
And even then, they were able to keep their cool at Final Tribal, so hats off to them for that. Even their final assessments of him were filled with cordial words.

A savvy viewer should know that to win, he should endear himself to the jury, which he sure as hell WON'T do, knowing him. And also, it's not enough to get to the end, it's GAINING THE VOTES that matter the most.

@jpad319 what are u even doing viewing a tribute for Russell? fact is, he is going to be the driving force that gets a lot of big names ousted, and win or not, that in itself deserves props.
As you can see so far, Russell is already starting to get a lot of airtime which goes to show that he isn't just a follower, he is very much IN the game and working to make things happen, we'll see how bitter the jury become this time round.
the boot list has been leaked on WIKI, most people know already!

@eugeneisalive Believe what you want to believe, but the point of the game is to play in such a way that you STILL GAIN THE VOTES TO WIN. You don't do that, then all that's not up to snuff.
And it's not on Wiki, fool! Maybe on SurvivorSucks or TrueDorkTimes. And that "most people" you're talking about are probably the intense hardcore fans, not the casual viewers.

In Survivor, I don't care much about deserving, I care about what works. And being the least threatening to the loudest Finals goat sure worked. And it helped to be nice to the people who'll vote for you as well.
As for the jury, they owe nothing to the players. The players have the responsibility of making sure the votes go their way and not someone else's.

it's not there anymore, but it was on Friday night.
if you watch a lot of the tapes of most of the Galu tribe when they are taken to Ponderosa after they're ousted, most of them are bitter. they would've had their mind made up by the time they went to Tribal. revenge, give the girl who did hardly anything and was nice the title.

And even then, the Samoa jury gave him the kid-glove treatment. That conduct deserves some props.

he blindsided Kelly which was a big move, he manipulated 2 Galu member's to help vote out Laura, he stopped Brett from making it to the final 3 and winning the game.
Foa Foa went to the merge 4-8. Russell was the mastermind that dismantled their game. he played from day one and hey may've said bad things but he never said those things to their faces, so they would not have known.

BTW, you might have mistaken him for for either Rich Hatch, Brian Heidik or Todd as they were the ones who kept their rude comments about others just for the camera.

Mick is quoted as saying that he thought Russell played a winning game. Jasion would not have admitted it because he was played, and also Natalie wouldn't admit it either because she won. Admitting she was a lesser player would mean she's admitting she doesn't deserve the title.
Oh and btw, there is nothing to say that he actually told any of the Galu tribe just how stupid they are. They were bitter about being kicked off.

@eugeneisalive It's a given that juries are potentially bitter. It's the player's responsibility to convince them to get over it and vote for them. But since he was such an ass about it, guess where the votes went?
Good players play the game the best way they know how but great players can anticipate things not going their way and work that into their favor.
Expecting the jury to think like you is a big mistake. They had a different criteria and it's not our business to meddle with that.

He got absolutely robbed in this season feel sorry for the guy. Also agree with the person who uploaded the vid he is my fav survivor as well. I'm sure he will make it to the end again because he is that good but he didnt see his own season so he wont know where he went wrong and will probably make the same mistake in the final tribal. Hope the all star jury members respect the game more than the terrible jury of season 19.

@ZALevi Believe it or not, that "terrible" jury was light on him. Natalie and Mick even had some kind words for the guy.
As for the soon-to-be core group, watch out for these bunch. These are street thugs with no patience for bull-in-a-china-shop f*ckery. Just ask Big Tom, Lex, Alicia, Ozzy and James how big dog juries are.
He pulls one on them, they'll turn him into Chinese take-out.

i'll never forget that tribal council when he stood up...and played that hidden immunity idol..i fell of my chair and clapped!! Love em or hate em, he was the most entertaining reality star i've ever seen. People will look back at survivor samoa and remember russell, not the winner. What a great speech at the end!!!! So much better than the other 2. NO CLUES...KIDDIN ME!!! holy shit...he has changed the way the game is played

dude shoulda won. Unfortunately for him he didnt suspect that jury would be soo bitter and juvenile. Thats why I appreciate for example NY spectators. They'll cheer the visiting team if they the ones handling business on the court/field or whatever. That jury never left highschool.

The people who go on to make the jury saw the real story, no editing, no censors, no special effects. Can't get the jury to vote for you, you're not the best.

Look at Sandra for example, from the last season. Her game plan was to get rid of Russell from the very beginning. Did that happen? I don't think so. Did she deserve to win too? And by the way, the jury didn't vote for Russell, because they couldn't accept the fact that he was a better player.

The best player is the one whose name appears on the winning vote. Without the support of the jury (and Sandra and Natalie understood this very simple point, which Russell flat-out dismissed), the rest of your game means nothing.

@AllRequired The best player is not whose name appears on the vote. The jury just votes for the players that didn't do anything, and if you don't do anything how are you the better player? If the whole world voted for the best player, it would hands down be Russell. Natalie and Sandra didn't have the support of the jury. The jury just didn't want Russell to win, because they knew he outplayed them. He's an intimidating force that should not be trifled with.

@costshooterman There's another factor to the game: knowing what moves to AVOID. If you knew how another player was eliminated, wouldn't that give you an idea what to not do? If you knew how the other players thought, wouldn't that help you plot your winning strategy? If you knew the jury would hate a particular player, wouldn't you want that particular player sitting next to you arguing his case before them?

he IS the the ultimate survivor player buuuut the problem i see is that at the end he got REALLY cocky and full of himself, which yah he did own everyone in the game BUT u need to be a bit humble if you wanna get votes. he basically blew it by tellin everyone how superior he was to everyone else...they probably voted against him just because of that reason alone.
