I love watching the record spin with that familiar Motown label as it reminds me of listening to all my mom's records in the early/mid 70s when I was 6 or 7! This was always my favorite Supremes song. Thanks for posting the song and video! =)
@steelcross101 thats an amazing story. this song reminds me of that era so much. if you dont mind me asking when was the first time you heard purple haze?
Here's something I wondered about...at the point of the song you hear at 2:36, it seems like there's a jump between parts, as if there was an edit. You can't notice it here really, but on clearer versions it's more noticeable. Does anyone know for sure if the song was cut down from its original length?
these songs were run through "companders" (compressor expander, primitive ambience synthesis) for extra effect on old paper car radio speakers and small pocket transistor radios. positive "inspirational" sounds like "Reflections" are censored now, most music is sabotaged for bland irritation. as systems improved in the 1980s, the video and music products were ruined to compensate.
music is more than it seems, separate actors, used as a system. i have studied many thousands of songs, every type and place. "pop" music has ancient tools in it (minor to major crescendo, emotional sequencing, hypnotics, depressors). i learned by decades of study of millions of documents that it was a secret religious war, game of remote weapons, in synchrony with electronic subliminal mind control. some obsessed, some took death to escape the attack. - james mcashan for the US Senate
brilliant song by them with some groovy soul in it.not everyone can hit #1 all the time, although this should of.record has nice sound(sounds almost new).great posting by them.
Read the comment from moogyboy6.He mentions the Monkees as early Moog users. You can also google it, Einstein.Your incorrect spelling of the word "mentioning" helps confirm your apparent lack of intelligence.
I bet this record was playing on every radio around the globe back in the day , i was in the 7th grade and it was the height of the vietnam war i remember this so vividly . I wonder how long this motown hit stayed at #1
@Rlotpir1972 Possibly a *very* early Moog, but I doubt it. More likely it's simply a test tone oscillator or simple feedback burst, fed through a tape echo. ARP wasn't in business till 1969 or '70, so it wasn't that. As far as which song was first with a real synth, that's debatable; '67 saw many pop singles with synth cameos (all Moogs) from the Monkees, the Byrds, Simon & Garfunkel, and others.
@doglips1958 Well, definitely for the Supremes and Motown, in 1967, it was. Must've been a real novelty at the time, like the feedback that opens "I Feel Fine" by the Beatles. But things were changing at Motown, this was the beginning of their "psychedelic soul" era after all.

3 minutes of pure pop perfection, very few songs have topped the achievement of "Reflections" H-D-H finest song epic in it's very scope.

I just wonder if the swirlin' intro was necessary. The Supremes hit #2 in Billboard, 9-9-67. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week!

@Rlotpir1972 Seems like I heard once that Daily Nightly by the Monkees had the first use of a Moog. Can't verify if it's true though.
