Because in London, from whence the sixties were born, there arose the angelic, seraphic vision of young womanhood, in voice and vision, who captured and inspired the yet formative desires of adolescents throughout the Western world----Marianne Faithfull.
Not so much coaxed into a singing career more like ruthlessly exploited, manipulated and betrayed by the music industry (she was not alone)! She was singing in coffee shops and even writing her own songs before Andrew Oldham's intervention. After this song a young and pregnant Marianne was dragged in and out of recording studios,TV studios, including French TV almost non stop. "With child" was not an image the music media accepted, which was why she was filmed singing sitting down!
