You should visit the bulletin board at Flea Market Music - great place to hang with the pros and learn about ukes. Google "Flea Market Music Board" to find the site. Thanks for the comments!
This is one of several instruments that I have built. I studied under a luthier and experimented a bit on my own. I drew the design up in a cad program, and built the instrument with some power tools, some hand tools, glue, and lots of elbow grease. This solid body was fairly easy; the acoustic instruments are harder. Try searching Google for luthier sites.. it is great fun building instruments you can play. I may try a tahitian ukulele next...
It is a solid body electric uke of my own design. I built it using walnut, imbuia, and figured maple. The strings are nylon, and it uses a Shadow undersaddle pickup. The shape is based on the shape of Jim Beloff's Flea. The sound can go from mellow to metal depending on the settings.
amazing!! i was thinking of making my own electric uke as well, do you think It would work with three single coil pickups like the ones on a strat electric guitar??
Yo dude, the electric uke you built from scratch (!) is beautiful; the sound is awesome!!! Your playing is wonderful, and you seem to be at peace playing in such a nice, serene environment.
nice!

No real existing song there... just a kind of Santana-ish thing that I came up with. Thanks for the kind comments!
