@Samjapa , it's not pure BS. I personally know someone living in Cucuí (upper Rio Negro) whose father was eaten by a Piraiba during one of those old discovery expeditions in large canoes. His canoe drowned on a rapid and after a few days they found this huge nearly dead Piraiba with a man coming out of its mouth. There was even a photo of it at the Manaus airport many many years ago. Localss are quite afraid of these large catfishes. Of course the chances of that happening again is nearly 0.
