The term "combo" is used too loosely for Smash Bros. in my opinion. I don't think it should exist for this kind of fighting game.

@Tekudo Combo's clearly existed in the first two smash bros. games, this game has a few frame trap type things but not really combo's but rather good hit string reads. In my opinion, combo's should be used in this type of fighting game but properly. There just isn't a good word to use as a substitute for combo in a game like brawl when someone tries to upload an impressive "ownage" video.

@FatOscar0 I don't like "combos" to be honest. I like Brawl over the first Smash and Melee. I also like Street Fighter IV over Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Blaz Blue for the same reason. Fighting games aren't as fun when it's all about comboing and getting comboed. In these types of games, you call it "slower paced" but in reality it's not, the combo focused games are slower paced. In these, you spend more time focusing on FIGHTING rather than just watching the screen getting comboed.

I play all of the smash brothers games equally (quite literally) and love them all as well as fighters such as Mortal Kombat and Marvel vs. Capcom. However, I'll enlighten you really quick here because I feel like you are missing a small detail. Melee has just as much, debatable if more or less even, mental "fighting" (as you called it) aspect to the game as brawl and super street fighter.

@genesisSOC Just because I game has combo's doesn't mean that there is no thought process on how to mindgame and outplay your opponent. In fact, I love how Melee has a unique combination of comboing and reading your opponent. In order to continue a valid combo, you have to know what your opponent is doing with respect to DI, teching, the battle ground and what character you fight against etc (as in the weight of the character). So yeah, I like thinking during the fight, and I like comboing.

Uh...the Fair from ledge to stage? Drop off the ledge you are hanging on (hold away from the ledge for a split second.) and immediately use your aerial jump and F-air (jump then hold toward stage + A). I've always had a little trouble doing this myself because link is so damn heavy that he drops like a rock the second you release from the ledge.(or maybe it's normal to have to be that quick and I've just been spoiled by marth's light weight making this easier with him)
