Can't believe it takes a rich politician to regurgitate in a slideshow what scientists have been saying for years. He did not get the prize alone. He shared it with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Control. Thus, the scientists were acknowledged. Gore gets credit for changing the mind and informing millions about GW. And it was a slap in the face of G.W. Bush...

@moviemuncher Although he's not a scientist (and others have certainly helped - the IPCC was credited too, remember), he was a very active politician and has been working on this issue since the 1980s I believe. He's really only been in the spotlight since about 2000 because the right made this a controversial issue sometime around then. Gore has been very influential on this issue for a while now.

Individual scientists are certainly human and they might sometimes lie - but not the scientific process, which requires that every claim is subjected to rigorous testing by others - again and again. It is the only fool-proof system of finding the truth, or at least the best current approximation. If 100 leading scientists from all over the world agree - that is good enough for me. And yes: scientific findings can be used for good or bad. That however is the problem of politics, not science.

Yes, growing hemp takes CO2 out of the air. So does every other growing plant. Planting enough daffodils or garlic would take huge amounts of CO2 out of the atmosphere. Can you point me to a source which explains why hemp is better than trees? Trees have an enormous surface area.
