"Bite Inhibition" doesn't exist, it's a new age catch phrase thanks to yuppy BS trainers. Old school Schutzhund trainers thought correcting a pup from biting you would hurt performance in bite work later. Good theory, but it wasn't a true theory. You very much can correct a pup for biting you and it won't hurt their drive later as long as you introduce prey items to them early (ie tug, leather rags, sleeves even) so they learn this is okay to bite, I get rewarded for it, skin isn't ok to bite!
@K9ProSportUSAdotcom Thanks for your comment. IMO these pups were too young to correct and I let their new owners handle it in whatever method they preferred. I use redirection to toys for my own dogs.
@loulovesbodeus never been a fan of redirection because it never addresses the core issue: Stop biting me! I don't think those pups are too young to correct. Heck, their mom has been correcting them for biting her too hard since they could walk, so it won't hurt if I do as well. Obviously it wouldn't be a leash and prong correction. More of a hold them up and "No...no." and holding them until they were still and calm before releasing them. Being still is punishment enough to a pup!
@K9ProSportUSAdotcom Interestingly enough, mom does not correct the pups for biting. Gana is a very permissive mother! I have never seen her growl or grab a puppy once even if they steal her food or toys!
Biting is a phase they go through which seems to stop by itself around 10-12 weeks. I am not a fan of overpowering a puppy by making it stay still.
@loulovesbodeus she may be, but most aren't, and most use the same technique without damaging drive. A lot of puppies with decent drive don't stop biting on their own. In fact if I were selecting a 10 week old pup who wasn't chewing on me and hadn't had training against it I'd keep looking.
not being funny at all, beautiful pups, but with pups, you are supposed to correct their biting so they do not think it's okay to do it in later life,
@DontLickFire See previous comment: "That depends on what you want to do with the dog in future. Some of these guys are destined for a working career and with the police, so bite inhibition is not a good thing in this case!"
If those german shepherd puppies are biting you like that when they are only 5.5 weeks old, just wait until they are FULL GROWN. - They will tear your arm off.
are these going to owners to use for schutzund? A friend of mine you may know actually (if you do schutzhund) has had a litter of 3 sables and 2 black bitches there about 6 weeks now and ive seen them each week when I go up to work there :)
2 of this litter are in Schutzhund homes, 1 at South Valley, 1 with me in the US. 1 is a police dog, and the other 2 are in active family homes. They are almost 3 years old now!
Actually most people really say, that I got quite a beautiful dog. And if the mother really did everything by herself, than at least I don't have to worry about bad breeding instincts.
She is now. But we have to see how it looks in a few years. As far as I know here mother was in good health. But were not sure who the father was. The previous owner said a Labrador but she doesn't really look like a Labrador.
I think I have a germanshepherd mix but don't know for sure!!! but he looks just like the first dog with the tenis ball in this video... can somebody tell me what or why my dog has dark spots on his touge???
I dont know for sure.. But i think that would mean its part chow as well.. You see chow chow's with black spots on their tongues to. Wont hurt him though
yeah I got 4 purebred german sheppards and one day a poddle ran up to our strongest one (who is a girl) and chewed the middle of it like a dog toy and the poddle lived so PEOPLE CONTROL YOUR DOGS AND I MEAN THOSE SMALL ONES AND ALL 4 OF MY DOGS ARE HIGHLY TRAINED
I have always wondered why the small kind of dogs almost always are more aggresive than big dogs, haven´t been able to figure it out? Maybe because people that get bigger dogs are more into dogs and train them better.
malex102 its depends some on how u wanna take care of it mine i provide all of them and airconditioner and a weekly grooming and everything soo for 36 GSDs yeah they cost alot, but for only two dogs robably not that much i don't think you'll be giving them airconditioner on their room like i do so it might not cost alot.
omg they're o adorable i have 36 GSDs and sellin the puppies and i have to say this but they're the gretest dog they have good personalities and good temperaent and they're also good protector
Basic rule: If a pup bites you and if it hurts, then you have to discourage its biting by telling a FIRM "NO" and ignore the pup momentarily. Otherwise that biting will become a habit (and a pain in he future !)
That depends on what you want to do with the dog in future. Some of these guys are destined for a working career and with the police, so bite inhibition is not a good thing in this case!
There are a couple of Apollo here on youtube at 6 months old. At the moment we are doing foundation work for tracking and obedience and also doing lots of socialization.
The mother is a dog I imported from Germany at 12 weeks. The father was bred in the US from german working lines, I got him from his breeder at 8 weeks. Both dogs have been trained and titled by myself and my husband and we moved to the UK in 2005.
That's why they look so familar. Dogs like that have become quite common among the working lines in recent years. Saidly HD still occurs among them, but in a lesser frequency and I think the pedigree is not closed like in the show lines.
