  • Aye jordan looking forward to when you come back to the U.S. for a little bit haha

  • TKD master? oh, you're a TKD person? me too! =)

i want to go to korea and teach english after college, and im a high school senior, and im studying korean a lot right now, maybe you could give me a few tips on what useful things i should do while i have these several years before i go there? thank you! :)

  • you ARE handsome ya kno

  • I am flying back to Daegu tomorrow from Melbourne and can't wait. I have travelled everywhere around the world for buisness for 15 years and as far as I'm concerned Korea is the most freindly and best place I have been. AND THE FOOD OMG!! I need to study the language and could easliy live there.

  • So great to hear about this!

It's very encouraging, as I hope to visit South Korea someday.

    What city are you in?

  • you seems so polite and down to earth, i don't know why you expected to have any problems :P

but, you're totally right. you do have to study culture and language before visiting any country. i think a lot of people forget that they're the ones who have to adapt to the way of life where ever it is they're going, not the other way around and that's when they run into trouble

  • Happy to know that you are having a good time in South Korea.

It's hard for people to dislike you - a handsome guy in good shape with great voice & wonderful personality.

I'm a South Korean living in Los Angeles.

My sister married a dark-skinned Hispanic guy from Honduras & my parents (who are in 70's & 80's) didn't even make a fuss of his ethnicity because only thing mattered to them was the fact that she loved him.

Good luck to you in Korea!

  • your so cute hahaha

  • Korean girls in american why u no hang out with other kids? ???

  • Ive been thinking of studying Korean and someday living in South Korea, but I'm scared of being left out or problems with diversities and such, so I just want to say that your video has encouraged me again. Thanks.

  • "I don't have a Korean girlfriend yet... because I only make so much money" HAHAHAHAHA girls are the same no matter what country you're in... gotta have money to get a good one lol

  • Generally some people make the mistake of not adapting a little to the culture of the countries they're visiting. OF course there are people who are actually racist, and perhaps some countries more than others, but I think most of the time people just don't want to feel like people are trampling all over their way of life. I think you got the highest score with showing people respect and being polite. Plus *cough* you really are cute *cough*....

  • Sir, seems like your have an incredible experience. Just be polite and honest and respectful. Always a good thing:)

  • GREAT VIDEO ! ! I'm glad that you are very open minded & studying abroad. Awesome ^^

  • Thank you for complementing Korean so much! I really appreciate it! Lately, I've been seeing alot of people/trolls on Youtube that have been badmouthing Korea when they really don't have very much knowledge about Korea. As a Korean, your video really made me feel extremely good. I hope you have many more pleasant experiences while you live in Korea! Plus, I don't see how anyone could dislike someone who is so cool and understanding!

  • Gosh! THIS GAVE ME SOOO MUCH HOPE! I MUST STUDY!!

  • I also think that you could date korean girl, from my view and most korean girl I like tall men that are handsome which you are both, also us korean girl like good smelling :) (tips) and some would love having african american boyfriend, I rather have that than regular korean guy :P They are so picky haha

  • I don't think korean won't be that rude and prejudice, maybe just curious in my view, I'm Korean and I don't have anything against other foreigner. I actually know some other korean who never saw a African American and they have alot of curious. Well again maybe some korean are different from other, but I don't think korean have racist agaisnt African American. :)

  • Why wouldn't Koreans like you? You seem a pretty cool guy.

  • Those are great signals that you're getting from people around you. I'm not sure if they would follow through on the arrangement with their daughters (as growing up I don't remember anyone follow through with it.. lol) but at the very least it's a figure of speech to speak to you and your elders what a fine man you are. Korean compliments are funny that way. Strong sense of moral character is hard to find in any culture. You have a good essence.

  • @thatguywayne haha thank you.you seem pretty cool yourself.

  • I met a south Korean girl while I was in Canada. Now she is gone, she got back to south Korea. Man please tell me how you are living in south korea, she is so special for me, I wanna visit her please tell me bro.

  • @chiliguato it's just personal conections.

  • ok.... it seems like you fall for it. lol you are not the only one.

  • @Leed86012000 -__- no, don't make assumptions please....

  • @brownboy252 lol. and your vid is not based on assumptions. hypocrite much?

  • @db7Ryu i thought he was making assumptions about my life and who i interact with here that's why i said that, but he replied saying what he meant.

  • @brownboy252 no no I'm talking about the old ladies making complement.lol They just say things like that but it doesn't mean that they want to 'date' you. I had similar experience with Jp ladies. The Korean old ladies don't pay such complement to me because I'm Korean myself but I know what is like anyway lol. They wouldn't do that to you if you are their age. :)

  • Whoa.. A year in Korea O: I'm only going for a month D:

  • Wow.. you're so blessed. Awesome video, I pray one day I can spend a year in Korea.. So jealous, I hope you're still enjoying yourself. Can't wait for more videos ^.^

  • cause ur so cute and kind.n u sound like u have some sence in u which is a major plus!

  • I AGREE!~ :D Good to know for you~ *fistpump* haha

I am "brown" and I'd say the same, as long as we adapt and is a nice person Koreans are pretty welcoming. Plus they're known to be polite, so I guess that helps?.

On a side note, I think they find us "coloured" people interesting. From my experience, some of em even wish they were African-American!. So yay, haha.

Looking forward to more videos!~ ;)

  • this makes me feel a lot better. I'm African American and I've been studying Korean for five years now. Next year I'm going to do an exchange student program to South Korea and I was so nervouse. I was thinking peopel might be racist and look down on foreigners. This gives me more confidence :) btw, you have nice eyes :P

  • You bboy and your in korea so lucky I break too what do you do there?

  • thats so cool!! :)

  • I just LOVE your eyes, Sir~

  • do you work there ?

  • Aw ur so nice I love guys like u because you respect kind people ^_^ -3

  • cuteeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • As korean, I feel happy that u have good experience in korea. Yes, on the Internet, sometimes i can see some extreme racist, but i think korean people are getting used to accepting foriener now. Even if u meet some racists someday, please dont feel bad... They just have bad prejudice because of some bad foriegner.. I can see u r a nice guy!^^ Anyway, I hope u enjoy the life in korea more!

  • I was so happy watching this! I really wanna go to Korea(I'm Norwegian), and I used to think like you did (also thinking I could deal with it even if it might get hard) but then other people kept telling me that it would be too hard and that I shouldn't go there (even my native Korean friend) But after watching this I feel like there's hope for me too. Thanks!!

Btw, you seem like a really cool, positive and polite guy, and you're also very handsome/pretty - No wonder they like you there! ;D

  • thats awesum ^^

i wanna learn korean. how did you learn?

  • your good look ...

  • I'm black myself too and living in Europe. So before I went to Korea all my friends and relatives thought Koreans were extremely racist. But I found them to be very humble, curious, polite, nice and the best people I've ever met. And I kept on hearing how cute I am, lol. And there were curious stares of course. Mostly from elderly. But a smile always helps and people want to know more about you. Koreans love it if you also speak Korean. That helps a lot. Even if you only know a few words.

  • Comment removed

  • that really makes me feel great. i want to be a translator or teach english in korea. i have always been afraid of what korean thought about black people, but after hearing your story, i am feeling quite excited

  • This is great. I wish I could see a video about a Latin American (more specifically a mestizo or mulatto) in Korea or Japan. It would probably be the same experience for any non white person from USA, Canada, UK, or Australia, since Koreans and Japanese don't really look or have interest in any countries other than the ones listed above.

  • @supermonk3y07 then once i get there, i could make a video for ppl like you..to make u feel proud about latin americans

  • @OhKrys oh really? So what nationality are you? I'm curious to know about other latin american people like me to be interested in east asia. I was planning on visiting S. Korea this year, but I think I will have to hold off untill a few more years since I don't have a lot of money.

  • Comment removed

  • @supermonk3y07 I'm dominican.. actually, im mvng to SKorea on february then im supossed to stay there for 5 year studying in an university in seoul :)

  • you seem like a very sweet polite person! It's so interesting seeing this from a male's prospective. This makes me excited to go to Korea!

  • It's reassuring to know that you were treated well during your travels. As a young black male in college , I've been kind of reluctant to do study abroad fearing that people will stereotype or perceive me in a negative light. Especially, in places like Japan or Scandinavia ( which is where i want to study) where blacks are not as common. But watching your video certainly did make me reconsider studying overseas. thanks :)

  • i think the ladies were saying that ur sweet and they also have a daughter around your age.. lol people did that a lot to me too :)

  • im glad you had a positive experience :)

  • coool video !!! and you are cute too

  • who can hate such a handsome face? positive attitude is a plus.

  • do you bboy?

  • @RoseTraxx i do

  • @brownboy252 lucky ur not it the north

  • @brownboy252 are you worker in korea???or just tourist?:) just wondering.....

  • @lilniel04 i'm an assassin...

  • South Korea is great. the people are wonderful. the students are kind. There was NEVER racism in my village.

  • @salisbury2004 where did you live?

  • This makes me feel good because I'm African American and I plan/want to go to Korea :)

  • hm? taekwondo?

  • how tall are you? :)

  • @FongTinez 6ft 3in

  • @brownboy252 smexy :)

  • @FongTinez How much do you weigh ?

  • im really happy for you i want to go to korea im even studing there culture and launguage but can you tell me what you meant about your host father i dont get that.

  • Lol, in your tags "Itaewon". so you use to live or go out in Itaewon?

  • @Hanguk83 ive been there once, i hate itaewon...

  • @brownboy252 why?

  • @Hanguk83 Itaewon, the shit hole of South Korea, unless they got rid of hooker hill, I doubt it.

Add American military and you have chaos.

  • This made me feel so much better. I am from Africa and I really want to go to Korea. I am in love with Korean culture, music and movies. Hopefully I will get to go to Korea after college.

  • uhm, yeah, there are actually ppl that will talk bad about you, because my fellow Koreans are ignorant, they assume all blacks are gangs or racist, but there are ppl who actually like you. I wish you luck in Korea, I wish I could go there to help out, but Im stuck in the US XD

  • im a pretty big kpop fan and ive been wanting to go to korea... but im indian... this made me feel a little better lol nice job man

  • yay for u sir

  • What exactly is "proper" speaking? Think about it.

  • I'm Korean and through my own perspective, people like and respect you because you behaved in a really great manner also showed respect for them c: and i'm really happy for that! Keep it up! 보기 좋아요 :)))

  • Ur cute!! <3

  • that's cuz u look good compared to others

  • 멋진 video message! i hope you are having nice time in korea! thank you 감사합니다^^! best wishes.

  • Okay, first of all, Korea! :D

Second, The race thing and all that.... I'm one of those people. I'm from a town that's ghetto and I, being an EXTRA white person with a racist father, have grown up not liking minorities. But all the shit my dad says is so wrong sometimes. I didn't know black people could sound like I did until a couple of years ago. I'm sorry for being racist :/

I've also realized the black people here scare me, they make me edgy.

But yeah, you are cute(: I'm surprising myself :0

  • @JeVeuxToiMaintenant LOL that's sweet to hear. ya know it's kinda weird that most boys with hardcore racist fathers turn out to be the opposite in the long run haha, but yeah dude most black people are scared of black people lmao so yeah don't feel weird about that ahahah.

  • @JeVeuxToiMaintenant haha... you didn't know black people could sound like you? how do you sound?

Go to Korea!! your experience will be interesting. Many Koreans are having a similar transition as you, when it comes to how they feel about foriegners (white-black) They'r edgy around us at first... but then are surprised to see that we share many things in common... and that some of us actually speak their language...

Im probly one of the blacks that makes you feel edgy..! but Peace bro!!

  • @icphares or sister..!

  • ..because I only have so much money. lol. classic. k-girls are like that in LA too. prolly worse. haha

  • 귀여우시네요~~

  • @jejugaza XD

  • dude what are you studying?

  • whatcha doing in korea?

  • Nice I'm actually headed to Vietnam to stay 6 months to a year I hope it's as successful as your stay seems to be!

  • That's Amazing! :) when I was in China this woman offered her son to me! Lol (I'm also black)

  • @amanda2happy hahaxD my mom does that to me lol

  • @chanseong Wow! That's so hilarious! What do you do when she does that?

  • @amanda2happy haha I try to change the subject, but she keeps going back to it lol. She goes " yegyu, u need a boyfriend while ur young : so u can have a husband when ur old" And am like : MOM I DONT EVEN KNOW HIM >.< hahaha and she likes "plz date my daughter!!" hahaa its so embarrassing.....so yea, thats my mom :D

  • I thought only japanese are the only racist asians espically towards blacks. The south koreans that are in American act like black peope so It will be weird if thier racist

  • @trevormontana92 I don't think that the Japanese are really racist, per se, but just extremely xenophobic towards "outsiders", no matter the race.

  • it probably helps that you are skinny.

  • x__x -subscribed :D-

I'm learning korean and MIGHT visit one day... But i dont know...kind of afraid to get on planes.. XD

I'm learning korean because i love korean dramas. xD

  • @RealRonPaul please dont say things like that. I understand that you have your own views and your own way of thinking but for me and i believe i that i am speaking for others who have read your comment when i say that it is completly unnessasairy to post stuff like that.

  • Ron Paul would repeal the tyrannical Civil Rights Act that seeks to oppress the White Christian Capitalist and dictate how we should manage our property. He is going to end the JEW FED and stop sending aid to the AshkeNAZI colony in the Palestine. He is the only man who can restore our great nation to the glory of the 1800s when all was white and well. It is time to take our country back!!!

    RON PAUL 2012!!!

  • @RealRonPaul - You're REAAAAALLY not doing Ron Paul any favors, especially in light of recent popular rumors about things he may have said in the past. You're really not making him or his supporters look good.

  • love the muscles lol really cute!!

  • they liked u cause ur handsome:)

  • so my point is.... this really gives a hope!! now I can go to bed...hahahah

    peace- ;)

  • I actually happened to check out your video after I was shocked how an African American embarrassed a Korean girl in Korean subway train.... in a very seriously rude and dirty way. And later he shouts "Hahahah Anyone speaks English? Anyone?" I've been living in Toronto and I know how many north Americans, not immigrants, don't know other language but "American"; and yet it was so detestable to see him acting like that.

  • I think they really had liked you- even I can tell that your attitude is really down to earth. Cool guy! Seriously, if you behave and show respect, they cannot hate you!!!! Well, I know there had been some misbehaved Americans (for they only expect people in their own country would perfectly know "English")-- but another respectful foreigner like you would change that stereotypes! Some may have some attitudes towards you due to their horrible experience... but you can endure it! ;) Cheers!

  • I agree with those two top comments. When you speak properly (especially when its perceived that black people are ghetto) people are more than likely to accept you.

    Your cute btw!!!

  • alot of ppl want to visit korea or japan manly cause of kpop and anime also some girls go to korea thinking they will find Korean bf LOL

  • It's usually black females you hear the "Do koreans like black people" and "Black in Korea" so it's nice to hear the perspective of a black male.

  • Ur cute D:

  • @mcrlopher why did u put a frown??

  • @brownboy252 how long have you been there and is it worth it cuz i wanna be a exchange student and im just kinda scared of being treated badly because im black ?

  • @brownboy252 thats more like a shocked face :D

  • It's crazy how people are so amazed by how you clear English O.o

maybe it's were I live that Black people talk proper English all the time.

  • @REPTARxGOESxRAWR - Same here. I'm always kind of baffled when I see people who seem mystified at the fact that a black person is speaking articulately. Are there really that many sheltered white people who herbs from the 'burbs or country bumpkins who've never seen or heard a black person other than rappers on TV? Or that many ghetto black people who've never come across another black person with better English skills than Waka Flocka Flame?

  • @A86 my thoughts exactly.

  • koreans are not just hostile toward other countrians.just foreigners are novel men to them..^^

  • if you had medium to long natural hair im sure your experience would drastically change.

  • @gorrilaunit99 my hair is medium, i have an afro....

  • @brownboy252 ok cool, i rescind my last statement. It just seems to me that a lot of the male foreigners on here posting videos that praise there time that they've had there are all bald. O.o The ladies of African decent with medium to long coarse textured hair on here seem to be having a string of problems because of the native cultural perspective on hair in relation to darker complexions. Being a man of flowing afro hair and hearing that you are being welcomed is very reassuring.

  • @gorrilaunit99 from what I've observed... black girls seem to have a harder time fully adjusting to the culture--ex. Eating things you know you dont like-- its really important to do that so I've seen.

And choosing not to be offended even when something is really offensive. Instead keep listening and gain a fuller understanding of the situation... ha I dont know...But Im a black male in Korea and overall have really enjoyed my time here... Im still here now almost two years

  • @icphares "choosing not to be offended even when something is really offensive. Instead keep listening and gain a fuller understanding of the situation"

i wanna hug you for saying that, very few people understand this concept or even have the patience to pull it off, and last of all, it isnt just something to be done in a foreign country but everywhere u go and with everyone you speak with, things will always turn out much better allthough it is a very difficult skill to master.

  • 아 달콤한 가서 tooo 한국 :ah sweet you went to Korea Tooo

  • @joshrobinsonful That looked a bit weird, here's a much better way to say it "너도 한국에 갔어요!? 멋있다!" ("가서"---> "갔어")

  • @brownboy252

hmm thanks i don't no much of typing it

  • How come your living in Korea for a year? Nice video!

  • What Part Of Korea Are You In? Seoul??

  • @RawrrBuddy yup, i live in soedaemun-gu

  • Hey, this is so cool. .. *Sigh* I'd love to live in Japan or something or somewhere in East Asia. Just to get a feel for the culture and what not... anyways God Bless.

  • I like how this guy talks. None of that ghetto stuff :D

  • @gdragonanddanny it's funny how when i was younger people used to make fun of me for not sounding ghetto when i was in school, yet now days it makes people feel good around me lol looks like i got the last laught muahahahah XD

  • @brownboy252 I really apprecaite how you dont! It gets annoying after awhile. Now EVERYONE* talks like it, black or not. I am proud of you! lol

  • @brownboy252 Indeed. Having to apologize for being educated or aspiring to be is a specific burden only certain black folks endure. But that aspiration for something else is what led you to Japan, give yourself a pat on the back for having the guts. Furthermore. Dude. You're going to get more ass than a toilet seat. You're C-3PO on Endor right now, and all the girls will want to know "what it's like..". Enjoy your advantages now, and good luck.

  • @brownboy252 lol, I've been through similar things! I remember I had some cousins that laughed and asked me how I talked so "white" just because I used proper English. And when I moved to Arizona I had a Mexican boyfriend and he and his friends (various races) use to call me the whitest black girl they knew because of how I spoke.

Either way nice video, I enjoy seeing the Korean experience from a black male view point.

  • you are not African American..Black people don't speak like that...you must be east Asian american like india or sri lanka. you are hidding why?

  • @dayamoy I am African American, it just so happens that i know how to speak properly.

  • @dayamoy Flat nose check, big lips check. Whines about racism check. Yup he is a certified African American

  • @jedistar You either are complete idiot or an average brainless youtube user where did he whine about racism? He was expecting to be alienated. Fuck it, thanks for watching and adding to the views.

  • @jedistar *sigh*....

  • @dayamoy you sound very ignorrant ,not to be mean

  • @brownboy252

I'm interested to know more about the comment you made about not having enough money when you talked about dating a Korean girl? Could you elaborate? I dated an American Korean girl who tried to make a money play and I sent her packing, lol, I'm just wondering if the money thing is a cultural expectation like a dowry?

  • That is beautiful ... Im so glad to hear your experience is going so well i just stumbled upon your video ...this is refreshing ;0)

  • @brownboy252 I apologize for sparking his rage. I enjoyed your video. I am actually planning to go to Korea in 2013. That is the reason I watched your video. I have been studying the culture and learning Korean via Rossetta stone. I thought I read that you are a martial artist. I am also. I have studied Kuk Sool Won for about 15 years. Our school is making a trip the Korea in Oct of 2013. I am very much looking forward to the trip.

  • @ITALOVER2 lol you are funny.

  • @ITALOVER2 can you please stop commenting here unless you're going to say something constructive. if your still bothered by my beanie, i already told you, put it on for the video because my hair looked messy as hell, i had dreads in and i was about halfway done taking them out and it looked horrible so i put on a beanie so people wouldn't say anything.

  • @ITALOVER2 DUDE!! YOUR STILL ON MY VIDEO! please argue with TBRLTROI elswhere.

  • @ITALOVER2 ...what are you doing? why are you writting stuff like that?

  • that's coz u're cute^^ and polite i guess

  • @ITALOVER2 I would much rather someone wear their hat in doors than to explain my actions based on race.

  • @ITALOVER2 Let me see if i am understanding your comment. "You refer to black hispanics and white trash wiggers" Wiggers being a term that I understand as white kids pretending to be black. Correct me if I am wrong. You do not refer to whites in general, minorities or those who would pretend to be minorites. You then going into say that covering ones head in doors is unacceptible not matter what those people do. This in it self sounds a bit racist and disrespectful towards minorities.

  • Thank you for your video=)

  • I think you are well conscious the truth that u were worrying how koreans will treat u and think u

and i think that came out at your attitude to people(koreans) when u meet someone,so that made us 'oh you are a nice guy'like that, and most of all, damn man! u r hot!!you don't look scary that is the most important thing. we have some prejudice kind of africa-american are scary reminds some kind of gangster (no offense).....well i'm glad you are staying at my country(korean says "our country")

  • @ITALOVER2 i know, i just put it on for the video because my hair looked really crazy XD.

  • I think you're very handsome~ that is so important in Korea... :)

  • omg i am african amercian and i always wanted to go to korea so if they are treating you well my friend then there is hope for me yet

  • Haha, this reminds me of when I was in Japan. I'm too African American. My experience was good for the most part. Mainly inside big cities like Tokyo and Osaka and rarely run into any problems. Outside of the big cities though, I was starred at a lot but that was just out of curiosity since a lot of them never saw a foreigner before where I was traveling. Besides that everyone had open arms and treated me like their own the whole time. Not to say it doesn't exist (prejudice) but it's not bad.

  • Comment removed

  • i know this isnt great, but when i saw a black family in korea i was so flippin happy!! i was all like YES MORE RACES!, yeah im a horrible person for saying this -_-

  • hey man, your English is really good--- but how bout some Korean? You probably don't feel the linguicism if you're not looking to really learn the culture, i.e., the Korean language. But, if you do start learning the language, and trying to speak in Korean, you'll have a lot of Koreans coming up to you just trying to practice their English. Speaking to you in English just because you look foreign. And is that right? Or is that linguistic discrimination? Canya be independent without Korean in SK?

  • @cheboludisimo no it would be really difficult to be independent without the language, and i wouldn't really encourage trying to be, it's frustrating for you but much more for them. and yeah i guess you could say it is kinda linguistic discrimination when you go to like amusement parks or movie theatres and they automatically try speaking english that can get old after a while T_T
