Let's for arguments sake say that you are totally right in your cosmological arguments. Now tie that back to your particular sub-sect of Christianity, excluding 43000 other deities and over 2000 other sub-sects of Christianity.
Lots of words... little content. Let's give you something to ponder... Say all the positive (inflationary) forces in the universe, and negative (gravitational) forces, end up balancing out? In that case, the universe comes from nothing... because it is nothing (a zero net energy state)... Now whether or not this is true is irrelevant. If you can entertain the possibility however, there may be a chance that one day you could actually know something
Christianity, the belief that a guy died on a cross, chilled in a cave for a few days, moved a GIANT FUCKING BOULDER OUT OF HIS WAY BY HIMSELF, flys up to space and is now always looking at you and knowing what you do all the time.
doesn't it sound great! oh and don't forget you better love him or you will burn in a fiery pit, fuckin idiots.
@paleocrat Saying that god made the universe does not solve the problem of something coming from nothing. It's like saying 1+0=2. And with occam's razor in mind you ought to say 0 = 1 because it requires less evidence. Your shoe-horning in the 1 to support your belief in a god. Second off, how is infinite regress a problem?
@SilverGalford "Scientists believe there is an superior intelligence which created everything and that proves God exists."
Wrong!!!! all this proves is that a potentially supernatural force or power may exist and be responsible for our physical universe. A force or power that is as yet undefined. I'll ask again, please provide evidence, other than quoting scripture, that proves Christianity has exculsive ties to this supernatural power above the other belief systems in human culture!!
@SilverGalford It appears that the only way you can answer my initial question is by quoting from your holy book and repeating phrases such as: "The almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power..."yada, yada, yada. Although paleocrat is still full of sh*t, at least he puts some thought into. You continue to rely on circular logic and arguments from ignorance to support your views.
@SilverGalford You need to come up with a different response. The old "you can't prove god doesn't exist" is getting kinda old. Never mind proving god, what I'd like to see is Christians prove their belief system is the product of a supernatural being and not the result of the fertile imagination of man. Let's start with you, slick!
Despite my atheism I am still open to there being a source or cause for our physical universe. You obviously feel the same but your video doesn't make it clear what you believe that source is. Are you a theist and if so, which god? Or are you humble enough to accept that if there is a supernatural source to our existence it remains unknown and beyond our understanding.
I wish everyone either stopped fighting over religion, or became none religious. I know that it is impossible for people to stop arguing over religion, because people are retarded like that, but if everyone just stopped believing in idols then the world would be a much better place. Funny, isn't it? Most of these religions are here to make the world better, and yet they make it worse.
@cryssiss If you wish to argue that consciousness, logic, reason, and other abstractions and concepts came accidentally from uncreated material lacking any and all things just mentioned, go for it.
@paleocrat Ok so logic, reason, concepts, etc. cannot come from uncreated material lacking those things. If that premise is true, then where did God get logic, reason, etc.? He couldn't have created them himself, because that would mean he didn't already have them -- and according to your premise something that lacks those things can't create those things. So they must have come from somethings else. You have set up an infinite regress.
"How can something come out of nothing?" I suppose you haven't read a single book about particle physics?`I find it fucking ridiculous that people use scientific theories to back up their claims, when they have very limited understanding of the theories. "The second law of thermodynamics says..." what's the first and third law? Usually you even fuck up the second law..
@snow111111 I'm most definitely familiar with it. But I think it's curious for physicists to argue that such activity comes in and out of nothingness. Unable to identify what it is or where they are coming and going? Fine. To say from nothingness? Silly.
time is a dimension.it is irrelevant when talking about matter. anything couldnt come out of nothing in the sense that the objects are bound by the dimensions that have been formed in. time doesnt make sense in a pre big bang scenario.
How can an atheist be offended. OOH science looks down you! lmbo. Atheists, why do you all waste your life criticizing everything in the world? and waste your life worrying about the past that never happened. I don't mind athiests, i just fucking hate the ones that don't shut the fuck up. Example: Richard Dawkins, he doesn't deserve ANY money at all.
@izzbgp "I hate atheism. evolution is retarded, greek gods are stupid, and why worship some dumb idol?"
I like the part about "Greek gods." Funny thing is the evidence presented by Christianity proving the lagitamacy and superiority of thier god and belief system is no more veracious than those "stupid Greek gods."
"Nothing" does not exist and never has. It is as absurd to say that everything came from nothing as it is to say that everything was created by "God" from nothing. An atheist doesn't necessarily subscribe to a world view in which it is believed that everything came from nothing. Atheism has no such prescriptions.
You're too hell bent on disproving atheism to even begin listening to what we actually say. You're not able to listen, because you have already made the decission that you are right and we are wrong. And that's because you're not allowed to question the centerpiece of your ideas, your god. Your stuck! And you have to use whatever it takes to pretend you have any real evidence for your sad and obsolete world view. This video just sucked!
The fact Youtubers such as Thunderfoot get millions of views for each video they post and you struggle to reach the thousands shows that no-one cares about the primitive babble that spews from your mouth. (don't be flattered by me watching this video, it was recommended by youtube because I was watching Thunderfoot)
@mediumphill I am not much impressed by Thunderf00t. He has many viewers, no doubt. His audience is quite impressive. But I'm just not much impressed. I mean, c'mon, he is limiting himself to kooks and goons. Ray Comfort? C'mon. He fumbles when dealing with Evangelical Evidentialists. Seriously, that isn't all that impressive.
@paleocrat Isn't that what religious logic has been whittled down to? A few internet goons. I know there are many theists working in the scientific field but a majority of highly regarded scientists are Atheists. The last throw of the dice for religious logic is through the web media where everybody has a right to freedom of expression. Thunderfoot is just burying their primitive arguments for good and putting and making sure no theist argument penetrates the internet unchallenged.
@mediumphill That is a gross oversimplification of the Christian community. And I'm not at all convinced that the predominance of a certain ideology within a certain field makes, by necessity, that particular ideology the correct one. A consensus of opinion is little more than that, a consensus of opinion. If one wishes to argue fundamentalists, fine. But concluding with a rather gross generalization would be quite unfortunate.
@mediumphill I believe that there is much we may learn from Atheists. Christians, particularly American Protestants (or Protestants in general) have done a great disservice to science for quite some time. But to deny the contribution of Christianity to science and philosophy throughout world history would be rather absurd. Likewise, to argue that nothing good can come from the investigation of atheists would be absurd.
@paleocrat To say that Christianity made contributions to science says little about why it had such an impact. They made progress in science and understanding because they were the only ones with access to knowledge sufficient to do so. They suppressed knowledge and free inquiry rather than encouraging literacy and the furthering the education of the common person. Knowledge and understanding in the public or common people was seen as a threat to their power and authority.
Hey there guy in the video, I am an atheist and believe most of what you say! I am not against there being some intelligence in control of the design of the universe. That is not my problem, I do not believe that any of the gods in any of the religions are even close to describing this force if it were to exist. The bible was obviously written to control people. My problem is with man created religion. Man created religion only serves its owners and causes most of the problems in the world.
@royalsteven nope, you are wrong. athiests can live a easy way too.obviously religious people need guidance and are dependent. so reliant on a imaginary being its pathetic.you're so ignorant its pathetic.that comment was just ignorant.
Your videos are so absurd that I feel it would be rude and maybe a little insensitive for me to mock them publicly.
ZING.
But seriously, your views on atheism are completely and utterly skewed. I doubt that you actually know many atheists. Atheism does not suck; religion does. Of all the ill-conceived human institutions that have plagued humanity throughout its history, religion is certainly the one to have caused the most hatred and suffering all around. Maybe you need to do YOUR homework.
most theists don't believe enough in order to not fear death...
what is atheistic evolution? one does NOT equal the other... there are atheists who do not believe in evolution and there are theists who do...
the argument to disprove evolutionary theory is inane... you assume that atheistic views are based on Darwin's theory...
Here's one for you... instead of worrying about disproving evolution... how about start proving a god any one... then we can try to whittle it down to which
"God exist(s), has a plan and idiots like yourself will perish in a ball of flame for being a stupid fucking sinner."
Let's review: Your biblegod says *all* are "sinners". That would mean believers, too.
Secondly, if the bible is correct in that "Yahweh" is omniscient - and in which case, it knows the result of its "plan" - then this means predestination, thus, making nonbelievers necessary in the fulfillment of said "plan". So who's "stupid"?
The Law on Conservation of Mass-Energy states (in simplified form) that no energy is ever destroyed but converted to a different form. What APPEARS to be nothing is vaccum fluctuation energy and it is documented. Now, we know that universe is composed of matter, matter is energy. They are the same thing. There is a lot of what appears to be 'dead space' in the universe but that 'dead space' is filled with what we cannot see but does have an effect (like gravity).
I am not going to argue here. I am athiest yet I do know that everyone was created equal in god's image - that is christianity. Therefore, go shove it.
I am no longer going to reply to you because you're an asshole. Oh and by the way enjoy your account suspension for making homophobic remarks.
People have their own right to believe what they want.
I do not believe in a god or any form of an afterlife.
You say atheism does not prove that a god does not exist. There are many arguments. Go prove a god exists. I'm sorry, just because a book says it does doesn't mean that a god DOES exist.
Science proves how things were created.
Also, the 'creating something from nothing' argument does not mean anything, if there was nothing there would be no God to create anything.
That is because you are stupid, lost or misinformed.
Believers in God do not have to prove anything to those who are misinformed or just reject him. In the Bible, it was written that such things would occur. It was also foretolf that atheists will see God when it is too late.
@godandtherepublic: I don't know any atheists who became christians (once you get the vaccine, you don't have the flu), but I do know former fundamentalist pastors who are now outspoken atheists; as for christ (btw, sinners are not supposed to die in hell, but to suffer for ever, right?)...since you pray to him and believe he stands next to you, although invisible, ask him to show himself and become visible for all to see him. I promise I will convert ON THE SPOT, but until then...nope!
@godandtherepublic: why not, if it would convince and convert everybody? no authority, hahaha! I had no part in his supposed death, if I were there I'd have done anything to stop it, but don't tell me I owe him anything for somethig that I did not ask for! And don't tell me I am mocking something that does not exist, this is absurd! Anyway, we both made our points, this conversation is now useless and it's time to end it.
@godandtherepublic:I don't want you to take my words personally, after all I don't even know you; if you did, I must apologize; I just oppose faith because it is a threat to civilization. Goodbye.
@GodAndtheRepublic and think about what you are saying... god comes in the flesh... and sacrifices himself to himself in order to negate a sin that he created in the first place... then... if you don't partake in this human sacrifice of an innocent.... you are condemned to eternal torture...
@GodAndtheRepublic and you are a bible reader why? because of where you grew up... if you grew up in palestine... you'd say the same about allah... in India... Vishnu... Using the bible to bolster your argument doesn't make much sense
YOU are living in your own personal hell hoping that people who do not believe in what you believe in are bad and are going to suffer. But you know what, most of the people who you hate (and amazingly still have high levels of morality) are enjoying life and making the most of what they have. I pity you.
I just cannot understand how someone can be so gullible???, this crap of pushing your views on others is not only moronic but selfish too.
For the record, I'm an Atheist who is proud to voice my opinion about what is right and what is obviously incorrect. Although I do not push my beliefs down the throats of others, I will certainly stand up for what is clearly inappropriate when being pushed around by these religious nuts. My views count as much as yours, either deal with it or go to hell.
See, I can't appreciate any of these rebuttals, since youre doing responses, and less of the entire argument. So i cant learn from their mistakes you claim they make.
For my own testing of my world view, would you mind going out of your way to send me a list of issues you find in atheism?
You still seem to have this underlying insulting nature, but maybe that's just how youtube is.
Either way, I disagree with you, but still respect your intelligence.
1/5.. because u believe in the bible! therefor you SUCK! and you say "something came out of nothing"? explain "nothing", what is "nothing"? nonetheless this video is fox-comedy-entertainment.
How can you from the worldview of Atheism defend the position that a banana will not turn into a cell phone? I presuppose that the laws of the universe act in a stable and consistent way. I have no way to prove this, as you have no way to prove that god maintains stability in the universe, proving either would be an impossibility.
Oh yeah, Paleocrat, there's a certain thing called exnihilation. Pairs of virtual particles are constantly destroyed and constructed in a vacuum with no prior cause, literally out of nothing.
Why do you call the first cause God?
This only applies to mass and energy. But not to space-time. Look up the
M-Theory, which is part of the String Theory.
So what if there was a first cause? You have failed to demonstrate why it HAS to be God.
Doesn't this guy notice that he doesn't make much sense?! He refuses to believe that the earth wasn't created by god, because he says that nothing can't come from nothing. But when someone asks who created god, that that's something different and that his beliefs are above such laws... I do trust my senses, which say me that religion doesn't make any sense.. and so does this asshole....
No one created God. God is outside of time. It is easy to think in terms of beginnings and endings when you live in a world of time, but God doesn't exist in time. He is timeless.
Please explain to me what it means to be outside of time. This is flagrant logical dishonesty. It's arguing that the same laws that HAVE to apply to the Universe don't apply to God.
Bullcrap. I may as well argue that no one created the Univers.
As well. I may argue that causality still applies outside of time, since you have failed to describe why it hasn't.
Great. Poisoning the middle ground. It's such a blatant act of intellectual feebleness. If that were true, then there really could be no debate, now could there? Which is exactly what you'd want, the infallibility of your god.
why bother trying to talk rocket science to a wino ...... if mankind is 100000 years old (that is a generously low figure), let this poor sap believe his celestial dictator sat on his fat arse until 6000 years ago and then decided to pass his message of salvation to the world by way of primitive Palestine in the bronze age.
Im sitting here bla bla bla! Im so smart. bla bla bla. I guess you refer smart to IQ as many "smart ppl do"
You got a hight social intelligence. That's it. If a person is really smart he would know that IQ can very well be based on knowliage and not intelligence. Ignore this.
And no, god most likley dont exist. Some other god maybe? And that is not very likley. Yes it is dumb to believe in a god. God did not create man, man created God. As it was their only way to get answers back then.Think
having faith is a human flaw, if i you had a familly member who was very sick, would you take them to the doctors to get medicine and fix the problem or prey, come on religion is poop. im not saying there is no god but religione is poop. i think we are just another animal on this beutiful planet no more important than any other creature on this earth. in my opinion to be religious is being closed minded. to say you know everything about life is retarded. just a little egotistical dont you think?
ay, i was trying to be nice by not insulting anyones beliefs but since you want to start namecalling, your mom must be dumb for raising a closed minded jackass such as yourself you fucking blowjob!!! hahah! go to church, you need jesus douchebag!!!
"religion is poop"... to general of a statement. What are you talking about specifically. On religions being "closed minded". Realistically, everybody has to be closed minded about something. For example, would you put water in your gas tank on your car? You have to set limits and use common sense (hopefully) on everything. If you're too open minded, your brains fall out.
The Law of Conservation of Energy demands that energy always existed. The Creationist has to assume a one-time violation of this Law by god. If you suddenly got hit in the back of the head with a golf ball, would you think that someone threw it at you, or would you think god popped it into existed since he/she/it can violate natural law at will and did so once before in the beginning?
I have answered this elsewhere, but will do again here.
No. Ever effect must, to be an effect, have a cause. But you are presuming that God is an effect. I short, if God is not an effect, but has is life in and of itself, then there would be no cause.
Options:
1. Universe without beginning
2. Everything spontaneously coming from nothing
3. Infinite regress
4. A Creator who has, on account of his being and nature, no need for a cause to exist creating the physical and spiritual universe.
If you assume that God (who has not been proven) does not need a cause, so is not an effect, there could be something else that could be the ultimate beginning.
And with God you do not solve the problem of infinite regress if he has always been there, because you would not reach the point in time where he would start the creation process.
I just want to ask a question. Why is it religious americans (well all of the ones i have met) think that if there is a god then evolution cannot exist? Considering evolution is proven as a fact, why not then assume that maybe god gave the natural world the ability to evolve?
Well, considering evolution is a proven fact then I guess they should then completely disregard that bullshit story altogether then or at least say it's "metaphorical" and that god gave the world the natural ability to evolve. Anyone that points at Adam and Eve and says that therefore evolution doesn't exist is a moron.
@paleocrat if god is not an "effect" as you said, then why could not matter be the same way? it appears to me that you are applying a different standard to matter than you are to god, in saying that the idea that matter came from nothing is absurd (although i don't claim that it did) and that it must also have come from somewhere. So as you have already been asked i'm sure a thousand times, where did god come from, and you say he's not an effect, then why must matter be an effect?
Assuming is typically no good. Bites you in the butt. I am quite familiar with the Big Bang, and I am quite aware of the fact that it would be foolish for me to say that the Big Bang came from nothing.
If you mean abiogensis that what about? It is still in it's infancy. It has many holes it in, which gravity did as well when it was new.
What I got from your video is that you think life came from nothing? Incorrect, it came from organic matter. And just because something is organic does not mean it's living.
Potholer54 has a good video explaining one of hypothesis of abiogensis. To me your video wasn't all that clear what was the problem.
Your evidently missing the point. Even if one argues that all came from organic matter, one needs to explain where the organic matter came from. Unless, of course, they believe that the organic matter is self-sustaining, having no beginning or end. If one wishes to dodge the bullet of the infinite regress or ex nihilo, then the infinite material universe is inevitable. The problem is that this comes with plenty of baggage, needing to account for concepts such as time and motion.
Supernovas create the heavier elements of the universe.
Hydrogen and helium were created after the big bang, stars formed, they went supernova and created the orgainc matter.
Where did the, energy to make the big bang happen? Science does not know.
But does not mean god? No. Science could not explain lighting and therefore it was thought to be a god throwing them down to earth. We now know that is silly and now have electricity because of our understand of it.
Just because science can't explain something does not mean it will continue to be that way in the future. We may finally find out where the energy came from, maybe from a another universe which actually has physics that produces energy.
But even if science doesn't find a answer to that, why should it matter? Somethings will never be known.
Now science does not know if the universe will collapse in on itself. If it will, then the universe could of been through that cycle a billion times.
But where did the energy come from to continue that cycle? Again science does not know at this time and may never know. But just because we don't know something why should it automatically be god?
But yea, I think I answered your question as clearly as I could.
Time always existed. You claim the same for your god. The primary difference is that we can detect time but we can't detect god. Energy always existed too. Just like your god. Like time, we can detect energy, but we can't detect god. If we need to account for the concepts of time and motion then you need to account for the concept of god.
Through the comments we can see right away the difference between a christian and an atheist: the second one has to offend using words that a dog wouldn't use if it could talk. Of course they don't believ in God, for when one believes in God, s/he becomes a decent person. Good job on the video, I feel sorry for these atheists and great for not being one... I wouldn't like my life having the same value as that of a pig... they don't live... they just pass by...jsust like the atheists.
Oh really? If atheists truly believed that then we would have no problem killing you, but we don't. That right there proves your idiotic "logic" false.
Atheists still have the grace of having the natuaral law in them which is given to all human beings... that's why a lot of them are good and decent people...you don't have to be religious to be good nor to be saved...just be good. Finding the true religions just assures your the right path to a more perfect life. That's why some atheits just dont kill... good for you.
Wow... Listen you bible beaters if you are going to try to use science to back up your theology at least have a high school level understanding of said science. Paleocrat if you even actually understood science cosmology evolution etc. you would know how seriously wrong you are.
Sensory information, at least in my estimation, can lead anybody down whatever intellectual path that person decides to pursue. My senses once told me that since there are 7 billion people on Earth and a plethora of various faiths, then it can be concluded that since metaphysical consensus is impossible then it can be concluded no true knowledge of a god could exist. But, the inevitable spiritual yearning is also evidence for the possibility of theism.
No, I'm not an atheist because it's the "cool thing to be." I've been an atheist since before I even a teenager. It's not exactly a great, big philiosophical statement.
Let me be the dude that breaks the monotony of these stupid comments. "Look everybody! I'm an atheist, and atheism is cool these days. If you aren't one, than you are an idiot!" It's like high school. I really think this guy has some excellent questions that people really have no way to deal with, so they just say the same tired crap. You know, God of the Gaps, the likelihood of the spaghetti monster equals that of God, evolution means theism is wrong, and so on. All refuted.
The usual suspects: Lack of understanding of cosmology (i.e. the ACTUAL statements made within the Big Bank theory), inappropriate analogies (out of science) and scientific illiteracy, compensated by big ego and too much self esteem. Tip: Be more modest! studying science wouldn't hurt you:-)
Are you ashamed of yourself? I feel uncomfortable just listening to you... I try to laugh because you sound so ridiculous but listening to you makes me so fucking uncomfortable i can barely grin. If you want to sound convincing try talking about how delicious doughnuts are, you fat fuck... Stick to what you know. Can you really take yourself seriously? Wait... is this a joke? I'm lost.
or is it just cuz humans maybe wrote it to find comfort from sufferings, and to look on to dying and going to heaven. so i guess we know we know where humans go, what about all the other Gods creations or lives , like animals? they just die i guess snd nothing happends. why if humans die like that but r too scared too admit that, is that why there is heaven and hell?
I'm going to address what I can understand. God is not in human form. We can only describe God using things from the human experience, because otherwise how would we describe Him? And we have a good idea that we are different from other animals in that we have souls. Even if you don't believe in a soul, you have to admit the human is a historically peculiar animal.
i guess hat frankingindahouse123 is trying to say is that people think they are the superior race, putting the animals on a lower lever and viewing them as lesser beings. When you think about it, its really selfish and so Not unheard of. So we made the belief of God, to make us feel like he is protecting us (humans), and praying is the solution to problems that we're too weak to deal with.
This statement really isn't about atheism vs. theism. I just want to say that the theories developing now do not have the big bang as the creation of the universe in the sense of all existence. It's not really any better than the previous theory for indicating the presence or lack-there-of of a god. I just wanted to point it out. For more information look into M-Theory, 11 dimensional super gravity, or string theory. Peace.
I think you are on your way to being an atheist. You're refuting like someone searching. Have you read the New Testament lately? You can't intellectualize an invisible being into our presence...sorry.
I would say don't worry about camcorders turning into bananas or what smarmy brits claim. Find something more important to worry about...like musik...
The infinite regress argument is one I hear from christians all the time.
It assumes the universe had a beginning because it has to have a beginning... as mortal beings, with everything we have being finite, we can't truly comprehend infinity any more then we can breath in a vacuum.
Your simply saying: Rather then it all came at some point from nothing, it must instead have come from nothing, but magic man dunnit.
Uncaused events happen on the quantum level all the time.
All of the energy in the universe has either a negative or positive value and it just so happens that both values exactly cancel out, meaning that the total quantity of energy in the universe is exactly zero.
Does God equal nothing? Does God equal something?
Is a deist conception of god or a Hindu or Muslim conception of God adequate for filling your question of "First Cause"?
If so, then what guarantees the correctness of your beliefs?
So after all the gods that came, and went, either omnipotent, malevolent, or greedy basterds, this is the god, for real this time!

Funny, isn't it? Most of these religions are here to make the world better, and yet they make it worse.

Well ever thought about that something exploded and the golf ball hit your head ? ;)
Why has it to be a consciousness that creates something ???
The explosion which could move a golf ball has no cnsciousness either.
So why do you think a consciousness created the world ? ANnd why didn't it just form in the big bang ??
cryssiss 1 year ago
@cryssiss If you wish to argue that consciousness, logic, reason, and other abstractions and concepts came accidentally from uncreated material lacking any and all things just mentioned, go for it.
paleocrat 1 year ago 3
@paleocrat Ok so logic, reason, concepts, etc. cannot come from uncreated material lacking those things. If that premise is true, then where did God get logic, reason, etc.? He couldn't have created them himself, because that would mean he didn't already have them -- and according to your premise something that lacks those things can't create those things. So they must have come from somethings else. You have set up an infinite regress.

"Nothing" does not exist and never has. It is as absurd to say that everything came from nothing as it is to say that everything was created by "God" from nothing. An atheist doesn't necessarily subscribe to a world view in which it is believed that everything came from nothing. Atheism has no such prescriptions.

paleocrat 1 year ago
@paleocrat Isn't that what religious logic has been whittled down to? A few internet goons. I know there are many theists working in the scientific field but a majority of highly regarded scientists are Atheists. The last throw of the dice for religious logic is through the web media where everybody has a right to freedom of expression. Thunderfoot is just burying their primitive arguments for good and putting and making sure no theist argument penetrates the internet unchallenged.
mediumphill 1 year ago
@mediumphill That is a gross oversimplification of the Christian community. And I'm not at all convinced that the predominance of a certain ideology within a certain field makes, by necessity, that particular ideology the correct one. A consensus of opinion is little more than that, a consensus of opinion. If one wishes to argue fundamentalists, fine. But concluding with a rather gross generalization would be quite unfortunate.
paleocrat 1 year ago
@mediumphill I believe that there is much we may learn from Atheists. Christians, particularly American Protestants (or Protestants in general) have done a great disservice to science for quite some time. But to deny the contribution of Christianity to science and philosophy throughout world history would be rather absurd. Likewise, to argue that nothing good can come from the investigation of atheists would be absurd.
paleocrat 1 year ago

Does God need a cause?
And where did he or she or it come from?
Flipsen89 2 years ago
I have answered this elsewhere, but will do again here.
No. Ever effect must, to be an effect, have a cause. But you are presuming that God is an effect. I short, if God is not an effect, but has is life in and of itself, then there would be no cause.
Options:
1. Universe without beginning
2. Everything spontaneously coming from nothing
3. Infinite regress
4. A Creator who has, on account of his being and nature, no need for a cause to exist creating the physical and spiritual universe.
paleocrat 2 years ago
If you assume that God (who has not been proven) does not need a cause, so is not an effect, there could be something else that could be the ultimate beginning.
And with God you do not solve the problem of infinite regress if he has always been there, because you would not reach the point in time where he would start the creation process.
Flipsen89 2 years ago
The universe, on account of its being and nature, has no need for a cause to exist. The universe is not an effect.
PissedFechtmeister 2 years ago
I just want to ask a question. Why is it religious americans (well all of the ones i have met) think that if there is a god then evolution cannot exist? Considering evolution is proven as a fact, why not then assume that maybe god gave the natural world the ability to evolve?
krouga235 2 years ago
If you know the bible story of adam and eve, you could probably answer that yourself
Furl3ssmonkey00 2 years ago
Well, considering evolution is a proven fact then I guess they should then completely disregard that bullshit story altogether then or at least say it's "metaphorical" and that god gave the world the natural ability to evolve. Anyone that points at Adam and Eve and says that therefore evolution doesn't exist is a moron.
krouga235 2 years ago
@paleocrat if god is not an "effect" as you said, then why could not matter be the same way? it appears to me that you are applying a different standard to matter than you are to god, in saying that the idea that matter came from nothing is absurd (although i don't claim that it did) and that it must also have come from somewhere. So as you have already been asked i'm sure a thousand times, where did god come from, and you say he's not an effect, then why must matter be an effect?

I'm assuming you are talking about the big bang, which does not say something came from nothing. Only a ignorant fool says that.
Go back to school and take science classes, you obviously skipped every single one of them.
mecher3k 3 years ago
Assuming is typically no good. Bites you in the butt. I am quite familiar with the Big Bang, and I am quite aware of the fact that it would be foolish for me to say that the Big Bang came from nothing.
The issue at hand is biogenesis.
paleocrat 3 years ago
Biogensis, What about it?
If you mean abiogensis that what about? It is still in it's infancy. It has many holes it in, which gravity did as well when it was new.
What I got from your video is that you think life came from nothing? Incorrect, it came from organic matter. And just because something is organic does not mean it's living.
Potholer54 has a good video explaining one of hypothesis of abiogensis. To me your video wasn't all that clear what was the problem.
mecher3k 3 years ago
Your evidently missing the point. Even if one argues that all came from organic matter, one needs to explain where the organic matter came from. Unless, of course, they believe that the organic matter is self-sustaining, having no beginning or end. If one wishes to dodge the bullet of the infinite regress or ex nihilo, then the infinite material universe is inevitable. The problem is that this comes with plenty of baggage, needing to account for concepts such as time and motion.
paleocrat 3 years ago
Supernovas create the heavier elements of the universe.
Hydrogen and helium were created after the big bang, stars formed, they went supernova and created the orgainc matter.
Where did the, energy to make the big bang happen? Science does not know.
But does not mean god? No. Science could not explain lighting and therefore it was thought to be a god throwing them down to earth. We now know that is silly and now have electricity because of our understand of it.
mecher3k 3 years ago
Just because science can't explain something does not mean it will continue to be that way in the future. We may finally find out where the energy came from, maybe from a another universe which actually has physics that produces energy.
But even if science doesn't find a answer to that, why should it matter? Somethings will never be known.
Now science does not know if the universe will collapse in on itself. If it will, then the universe could of been through that cycle a billion times.
mecher3k 3 years ago
But where did the energy come from to continue that cycle? Again science does not know at this time and may never know. But just because we don't know something why should it automatically be god?
But yea, I think I answered your question as clearly as I could.

Time always existed. You claim the same for your god. The primary difference is that we can detect time but we can't detect god. Energy always existed too. Just like your god. Like time, we can detect energy, but we can't detect god. If we need to account for the concepts of time and motion then you need to account for the concept of god.

Sorry for lack of clarity.

You're fucking stupid. Why don't you kill yourself?
Vektruscen 3 years ago
Because that's what atheists do.
VeritatisMidia 3 years ago
LOL! hahahahahahaha
Vektruscen 3 years ago
Oh really? If atheists truly believed that then we would have no problem killing you, but we don't. That right there proves your idiotic "logic" false.
mecher3k 3 years ago
Atheists still have the grace of having the natuaral law in them which is given to all human beings... that's why a lot of them are good and decent people...you don't have to be religious to be good nor to be saved...just be good. Finding the true religions just assures your the right path to a more perfect life. That's why some atheits just dont kill... good for you.

Good job, paleocrat.
Your comments on the uniformity of nature were very informative. Thank you.

So, go figure.

No, I'm not an atheist because it's the "cool thing to be." I've been an atheist since before I even a teenager. It's not exactly a great, big philiosophical statement.
KevinLockard 3 years ago
Let me be the dude that breaks the monotony of these stupid comments. "Look everybody! I'm an atheist, and atheism is cool these days. If you aren't one, than you are an idiot!" It's like high school. I really think this guy has some excellent questions that people really have no way to deal with, so they just say the same tired crap. You know, God of the Gaps, the likelihood of the spaghetti monster equals that of God, evolution means theism is wrong, and so on. All refuted.
cruelfate45 3 years ago 2
The usual suspects: Lack of understanding of cosmology (i.e. the ACTUAL statements made within the Big Bank theory), inappropriate analogies (out of science) and scientific illiteracy, compensated by big ego and too much self esteem. Tip: Be more modest! studying science wouldn't hurt you:-)

It is funny because I can't be the only one to see how stupid this person is.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
You obviously don't know how evolution works you seem to be semi-retarded. It saddens me that you are retarded.
Why couldn't they happen because the universe does not work that fucking way. I can't believe someone can be this fucking dumb.
No, one said non-existence made existence. We don't understand where the universe came from you fucktard.
fatikis 3 years ago
So in other words why don't you go and eat some fucking Cheetos you fat ass. Eating seems to be the only skill you fucking have you idiot.
fatikis 3 years ago
Are you ashamed of yourself? I feel uncomfortable just listening to you... I try to laugh because you sound so ridiculous but listening to you makes me so fucking uncomfortable i can barely grin. If you want to sound convincing try talking about how delicious doughnuts are, you fat fuck... Stick to what you know. Can you really take yourself seriously? Wait... is this a joke? I'm lost.

so is god in human form?
cuz he has a lot of human characteristics...
or is it just cuz humans maybe wrote it to find comfort from sufferings, and to look on to dying and going to heaven. so i guess we know we know where humans go, what about all the other Gods creations or lives , like animals? they just die i guess snd nothing happends. why if humans die like that but r too scared too admit that, is that why there is heaven and hell?
frankindahouse123 3 years ago
I wish that were coherent.
I'm going to address what I can understand. God is not in human form. We can only describe God using things from the human experience, because otherwise how would we describe Him? And we have a good idea that we are different from other animals in that we have souls. Even if you don't believe in a soul, you have to admit the human is a historically peculiar animal.
Kapellmeister177 3 years ago 2
i guess hat frankingindahouse123 is trying to say is that people think they are the superior race, putting the animals on a lower lever and viewing them as lesser beings.

Peace.

oh man, this is sad. give it up brother you sound like your trying to convince yourself that there is a god. pathetic

Hey Dogg,
Nice music leading in to your pronouncement.
Anyway, good luck no matter what you find.

Okay, so say I'm an Atheist, watched this video, and agreed on that that evolution theory doesn't explain everything.
Then I would still be an Atheist. The Title Of This Video Still Sucks.

MoralResolve 3 years ago
Uncaused events happen on the quantum level all the time.
All of the energy in the universe has either a negative or positive value and it just so happens that both values exactly cancel out, meaning that the total quantity of energy in the universe is exactly zero.
Does God equal nothing? Does God equal something?
Is a deist conception of god or a Hindu or Muslim conception of God adequate for filling your question of "First Cause"?
If so, then what guarantees the correctness of your beliefs?
