@ghostwhiskey the gig was random, we had the cd thats all (better than nevermind or badmotorfinger in my book) well, the support was Paw (rocked). But A&M had put money into the band and mm's pa was mad up of rack after rack of late 60's/early 70's tube gear. like, smithsonian institute exhibit, american strength acid rock band arsenal. Fck knows how moch it was worth but we spoke to the band before the gig and they were reverant of it. Like, ooooo. and like, ahhh- check what this does.
Hah...I remember that gig with crapp ass Soundgarden n Nirvana at the Austin Collesium...We snuck in thru a back door...I was already on the list, +2 but we showed with a gaggle of chix and had to find another entry...Ahhh college....that was the 3rd time I had seen MM...Big show, not well received by the "other" fans.
You know, so many great hard rock bands either came out or hit it big in the 90s: Nirvana, S'garden, Tool, P' Jam, AIC, Faith No More, Jane's Addiction, Chili Peppers, STP, Rage, Green Day, Offspring, S. Pumpkins, Weezer, Everclear, Danzig, White Zombie, NIN, Pantera, Ministry, Fear Factory, Warrior Soul, Type O, and Monster Magnet. Obviously, some were more popular than others, but my point is: ROCK MUSIC TODAY IS DEAD. I like White Stripes and High On Fire, but that's it.
@kiribula --yeah, Offspring not a personal fave, but Green Day did redeem themselves with "American Idiot", imho. I guess I was just trying to touch upon as many bands of the era. Instead of Offspring, I should've substituted Dinosaur Jr.
Damn this makes me miss the 90's more and more what the hell happened to music that decade came screaming in with top notch talent no clue what we have today and MTV is beyond shit
I don't care if he gets 1.000.000 lbs....He is the man and anyway who cares about his appearance? This is rock music where ugly people get to meet beautiful girls....this is no mainstream where you have to be good looking to be succesful...as always rock makes the world come upside down and Dave does that too
These guys were always 60 psychadellics and 70s rock...which is a great combination. I remember hangin' out with the bassist making fun of the opening act at one of their shows in Charlottesville, va. hahaha...I think age and drugs got the best of Dave though, he's gained a few pounds.
I saw them around '95 on three tabs of Windowpane and lost my shit during "Twin Earth"(in the good way, though). That show will FOREVER be burned in my brain!!! Monster Magnet=Metal dipped in 40weight!!! Awesome band!!!!
i saw them around the same time in Detroit , while i too was on a few drops of blotter and the liquid imaging backdrop fucking melted me . plainly awesome
The colored liquids were trippy. I also clearly remember a shot of a skull getting crushed in slow-motion, over and over again. It scarred me a little bit.
I'll never forget seeing this video for the first time, especially since the idiots at MTV forgot to throw the artist/song information at the beginning or end. It wasn't until they made a video for Negasonic Teenage Warhead a year later that I knew what the band was called. That was a rough year playing this riff in guitar class with people asking "What are you playing man?" and only being able to say "I just don't know.". The point of my story is Monster Magnet FTW!!!!
I thought I was the only one who would ever remember that shit. I played the vid for everybody I knew and nobody knew who it was. The funny thing is they did the same thing for Kyuss's Green Machine
I had pretty much given up on finding out who it was. I was checking out different jiu jitsu schools and I walked into one and they were blasting Twin Earth while working out. That was a solid tipoff that I had found the right place.
There was a Soundgarden promo video tape for "Jesus Christ Pose" that had this video on it, I've been looking for it ever since. Thanks for posting this!
I was watching a pile of junk metal videos on a show on ITV many years ago when this video caught my attention. Ran out and bought the album, and then every other one since! Fantastic band. Get drunk and spin out to Spine of God.
exactly! the mainstream is littered with bands who are wrapped up in commercial bullshit, which has fuck all to do with rock n' roll. There's too many manufactured pretty boy rockers..makes me fuckin cringe!!!! M/M play it and say it like it is, character and style without the turd-polishing PR men butchering the music and it's message!!!! Keep it real!!!!yeaaaah!
I've probably watched this video more than it was ever screened on MTV x
