NNeka i swear your music is all i listen 2 now inno! u make my morning and night with ur lovely peacful music! keep doing your thing! tired of listening 2 music dat corrupts your minds like dis!
I recently visited Nigeria and saw Nneka on CNN and was impressed with her musical stylings. Come to find out she is beginning to make waves here in the US and Canada with her music, opening for some big names.
@RaYBaSHKatan we have a few nigerians who have made it big on the international stage, sade , seal, to name a few born in nigeria and with strong roots still . and with the nollywood actors coming to the attention of western media because of the sheer size of the nigerian film industry this is just the begining of a new wave ....
I believe Africa is the home of true new wave deep, meaningful soul music. while we in the "west" live our day to day commercially driven lives, striving to do better than our neighbours, have a better, newer car, a bigger pool, even things as petty as the shoes on our feet, if the world cup has taught us anything, highlighted and opened the rest of the worlds eyes to anything, it’s the plight the whole African continent is facing
@MrPeteloaf as an african myself i can say that it is not all doom and gloom as the western media portrays it.. even i was very impressed when i went back home earliar this yr and saw the changes in lagos. its all about good goverance not more hand-outs from western elements who only have their own interests to push forward anyway. also when western governments protect the markets by not allowing africans to sell their goods it doesnt help us . its all about self interest .
@MrPeteloaf Not everybody in 'the west' is living the delightful middle class fantasy life you seem to assume. Some people are struggle day to day to keep our heads above water too. We don't -have- a car, let alone a 'newer car'. We don't have a pool, and we can barely afford to live wherver we're living.
You seem to thing your eyes are so open, commenting on the 'African plight.
Wake up yuppie, there are problems closer to home too.
dude, if you read my comment properly you would have got the bigger meaning, given it reads localised but the meaning is global, we are all in a difficult place at the moment, and i'm no yuppie, i'm just a pro active tradesman trying to pay a mortgage and look after my two young children, who happens to have an opinion, so apologies if your offended but real life affects us all
@MrPeteloaf Apologies for my knee-jerk reaction. Just annoys me when people try and paint 'the west' as being all a bunch of decadent rich people, when there's an enormous number of people in 'the west' living on the bread line, with problems of their own.
@Biotektan I'm so totally down with what you just said man, I mean in some way some of us should be ashamed for putting their culture, hard work and so on to the ground! ... we may be all cool and really superior tehnological and shit...but man, these mates still have their hearts and souls and still look up and see the sky..where we look down thinking of meaningless things...save africa !
She is hearing it, and sharing it! Content! We need a revolution of content in the music world! Consciousness over ignorance! This is the kind of artist we must support!
The children need to be listening to this! Every song from Nneka is priceless!
@ushadrons i agree content is paramount but its not making the type of money that the trash being fed to our children is.. so the big money boys will always promote the type of artists who promote trash over these type of artists. its all about money markets etc..
elle chante au monde et les africans: reveillez-vous et ouvrez vos yeux à les problèmes en afrique. elle dit que c'est les pères blancs qui étaient culpable mais maintenant les africans continuent de souffrir aux mains des autres africans
I agree with her. I'm from the Caribbean and I think we black people need to stop blaming the colonial masters for all the past wrongs. In Nigeria's case, they were better off before Independence than they are now. I can say the same thing for most BWI countries too except Trinidad, where I'm from, because of Oil, gas and manufacturing but the increasing crime rate is our own fault though....
colonization had some role in the problems of african countrys. if u consider that ethnic discrimination is a real issue in some countries you start to realize that the frontiers imposed by colonial regimes are a problem. (im portuguese and my country had a role in some coutries) however, african nations need to grow up and start acting like nations and not as a bunch of ethnic groups massed up together by force. Africa needs order.
@chefawkes Cosign, Colonialism is still alive nd well in Africa,it now operates under the guise of Capitalism, the resources r still leaving the continent to give opulance to others while indigenous people have nothing, nd what's used to pull this off civil nd tribal wars, if i'm busy fighting my bro I can't focus on the real enemy, like Marley said. "through political strategy they keep us hungrey, nd when u got to get some food, your brother got to be your enemy" Africa Must Wake UP!!!
well i'm sorry for your friends bad experience, but damn what you just wrote is racist as hell..doesn't matter..but africans have the right to life just like you and me, and they wouldn't be uneducatet and have to steal when these so called 1st world countries would help them properly, not that BS donating which is useless when there's still capitalism and the rule of the strongest wins...socialism isn't better at all(in the forms we know it) sorry for my bad english, can't explain it any better
