If he wilted against Hamilton may he learn from that but to see someone put it over Schumacher the way he did was a great moment for me.

This was the race when Schumacher realised his time as the No 1 was over. He tried everything to pass Alonso in ths race and just couldn't do it. In the press conference afterwards his body language was that of a thoroughly beaten man. A great memory for me.... It was the day I became an Alonso fan.

The last few laps of this race was very exciting, especially the last lap. I remember watching this from home, I was on the edge of my seat...until I fell off. Thats how excitied I was. The amazing accleration of the Renault is apparent in this video. On the straights Schumacher's Ferrari cathes Alonso's Renault with the speed of the Ferrari. But out of the corners, Alonso pulled out a gap from nowehere.

Actually the Ferrari F2005, the car Michael Schumacher is driving in this video, wasn't a bad car at all. The truth is that, that year, the Bridgestone rubber was far less superior compared to the Michelin tyres. That year the regulations stated that during a race, tyre changes were not allowed. Michelin were simply better prepared for these regulations than Bridgestone were. I'm not saying the Ferrari F2005 was their best car ever, but it was definitley not a bad as you are suggesting!

@shanghaikidx tio solo tengo k decirte que Alonso es el mejor piloto actualmente en la parrilla , ha ganado 2 mundiales y si te acuerdas tu en singapur 2008 salio 15 y gano la carrera , lo mismo que paso en hungaroring 2006 saliendo 15 , adelantó a Schumy de una forma espectacular y era lider a pocas vueltas del final (no la ganó porque tuvo un fallo con la tuerca) y en 2005 la curva 13R de Suzuka , Alonso le metió un hachazo tremendo al Kaiser (cosa k hoy en dia en la F1 no se suele ver mucho)

Obviously you didn't watch the 2005 season. Ferrari was damn slow. This is Schumacher's trick, not Alonso's. Just as in 2006 Schumacher fought back with a slower car - this track is bad for overtaking, and MS already made a miracle by getting ahead of Button.

Right dude, the moral winner of the race was MS, I remember he came from far behind, he was after 1/3 race around 30 sec or more behind Alonso but he recovered the difference and managed to put big pressure on Alonso for more than 10 laps. The circuit didn't helped much on passing.

What costed Schumacher victory here was mainly due to him being held up behind Jenson button for many laps.(not shown in this clip) Button was running underweight on 600kg with fuel, and was later penalised. So clearly schumi would be able to pass Button much earlier had BAR not cheated. And if that's the case, schumacher would thereafter be able to get out of the 2nd pit stop in front of Alonso.. and add to his 91 F1 wins. But what a race! Really miss those V10 engines..

Thats a hell of a lot of assumptions. The thing that cost him victory is that his overtaking ability was eclipsed by Alonso's defensive ability. He couldn't get past Alonso at Turkey 2006 for 15 laps, a track acknowledged as one of the best for overtaking.

little defensive driving required, such is the nature of the circuit. Pit stop strategy more important.

On Button, yes the car was underweight but the Ferrari was so much faster-Schumacher was still closing at 1-2 secs a lap, that it did not make enough difference. Alonso kept Schumacher behind at Turkey-a great track for overtaking-for 15 laps, he's just a great defensive driver. Schumacher got him back in 2006 at Imola, funny =)

Yes, actually Alonso did suffer from some problems: he couldn't engage 7th gear at the end of that GP, so he cleverly braked earlier and took advantage of the R25's better traction to gain some advantage at the exit of each curve. It was a very clever driving from the Spaniard (infinitely better than Fisichella at Japan).

Not wanting to get drawn into these flame wars, but it was more to do with the fact that Renault chose the wrong compound Michelins and Ferrari got the tyre choice spot on, meaning the F2005 was unusually quick in comparison (indeed probably faster at the end when the Renault's tyres were failing). Alonso didn't have engine troubles to my knowledge, and driver ability counts way more at the tracks like Monaco, not so much at tracks like this with a higher number of long fast corners.
