Let's follow the logic here. People bought loans they couldn't afford. Fannie and Freddie backed the banks that made them. Banks could make these loans, bundle and sell them as annuities. It is these annuities that crashed once housing values dropped. This was all possible due to Phil Graham's efforts to repeal a depression era law limiting what banks can do. The Republican Congress passed and Democrat President Clinton signed. Banks stopped being just banks. All are guilty here.
ACORN/Obama protested banks "redlining", helped bring pressure on banks to offer "affordable Housing" loans with lower lending standards. Andrew Cuomo under Clinton talked up rulings in favor of Clinton Administration in 1998 against banks. These "discriminatory" lending practices were banks who didn't want to make risky loans, but were pushed into it by threats of punitive regulation under Clinton.
Then dems resisted regulation by GOP multiple times until now.
I would agree that the Dems put pressure on banks to make loans to poorer people. But to say this problem was created by one party or another ignores the fact that it was annuities and derivatives that made this mess possible. Both parties had a hand in repealing the Glass-Steagall Act. Look at where the problem is, large national/regional banks that traded in them. Most community banks are stable. Also, many of the loans were made by speculators and realtors - not really CRA candidates.

John M. Murtagh: During the April 16 debate between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, moderator George Stephanopoulos brought up a gentleman named William Ayers, who was part of the Weather Underground in the 1970s.
Ayers explained his goal in the 1970s as "Kill all rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that's where it's really at."
Ayers: "I don't regret setting bombs. I feel we didn't do enough."
When asked if he would do it again, Ayers said, "I don't want to discount the possibility."
Of the day he bombed the Pentagon, Ayers says, "Everything was absolutely ideal. : The sky was blue. The birds were singing. And the bastards were finally going to get what was coming to them."
Bill Ayers is an unrepentant domestic terrorist who helped found the Weather Underground. He and his organization were responsible for attacks on government buildings and public officials' families; their actions resulted in deaths and serious injuries to police officers and other innocent American citizens. Ayers eventually teamed up with Senator Barack Obama to work on educating youth in Chicago.
Obama published a rave review of Bill Ayers' book about juvenile justice in the Chicago Tribune. The book questioned the necessity of a prison system, compared America to South Africa's apartheid system, and dismissed the idea of the United States as a kind or just country.

mykol13v, I appreciate your comment about europe. I have an uncle buried over there, died during battle of the bulge, along with about 19,000+ other Americans, just from that battle alone. In about one month. Not to overlook the losses and suffering of other nationalities. My mother mentioned how at the time notices of dead and missing filled up pages (?) of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette newspaper, (I think that was the paper, anyway...).
Would like to visit the grave someday.

I did the search, I found news of ONE British couple who were so fanatic that they would do such a thing. That is not Islamic, that is plain old SICK. The vast majority of Muslims condemn that kind of thing.

Yes, there are approximately 1.5 billion Muslims on this planet, and Sunni and Shi'a muslims are both Muslims by definition.
I oppose to the strongest degree those parts of the Qu'ran which call for violence against non-believers. However, there are identical sections in the Bible, which, amongst other things, permit slavery.
Neither the Bible nor the Qu'ran can be taken as literal definitions. I haven't read the Qu'ran, so I can't give you any specific.

The reason Nazis and communists were so antagonistic was fanaticism and COMPETITION. Hitler's take on socialism also included fanatic racial superiority. Bill Clinton inherited 7.6 % and reduced it to 3.9% Clinton gave us a booming economy and gave us the largest budget surplus in American history. George W Bush took clintons 3.9% and it has been consistently higher. He has wasted Clintons surplus and once again gave us largest deficit in history and surprise surprise, another recession. One quick remark about the Bush tax cuts...
If those are extended until, say, 2020, the US government will be bankrupt. How? Because even if it freezes military spending, Medicare and Medicaid will both grow so large that the US will no longer be able to pay the INTEREST on the national debt.
Taxation NEEDS to be increased. Thank God Obama is taxing the RIGHT group (the rich & corporations), who have benefitted from "yellow socialism" (rich=socialism, everyone else=capitalism) for years.

Dems opposed regulation of public/private Fmae, Fmac operating with lower lending standards, put in place, forcibly, by dem legal, legislative, activist efforts. Market collapsed when a bubble encouraged by government social engineering burst, as people in debt (risky loans banks normally avoided) could not afford loan payments AND rising gas/food/etc. prices. Etc.
Big gov should have stayed out of loan business.

Let's follow the logic here. People bought loans they couldn't afford. Fannie and Freddie backed the banks that made them. Banks could make these loans, bundle and sell them as annuities. It is these annuities that crashed once housing values dropped. This was all possible due to Phil Graham's efforts to repeal a depression era law limiting what banks can do. The Republican Congress passed and Democrat President Clinton signed. Banks stopped being just banks. All are guilty here.

ACORN/Obama protested banks "redlining", helped bring pressure on banks to offer "affordable Housing" loans with lower lending standards. Andrew Cuomo under Clinton talked up rulings in favor of Clinton Administration in 1998 against banks. These "discriminatory" lending practices were banks who didn't want to make risky loans, but were pushed into it by threats of punitive regulation under Clinton.
Then dems resisted regulation by GOP multiple times until now.

I would agree that the Dems put pressure on banks to make loans to poorer people. But to say this problem was created by one party or another ignores the fact that it was annuities and derivatives that made this mess possible. Both parties had a hand in repealing the Glass-Steagall Act. Look at where the problem is, large national/regional banks that traded in them. Most community banks are stable. Also, many of the loans were made by speculators and realtors - not really CRA candidates.

John M. Murtagh: As the association between Obama and Ayers came to light, it would have helped the senator a little if his friend had at least shown some remorse. But listen to Ayers interviewed in the NYT on Sep 11, 2001, of all days: I dont regret setting bombs. I feel we didnt do enough. Translation: We meant to kill that judge and his family, not just damage the porch. When asked by the Times if he would do it all again, Ayers responded: I dont want to discount the possibility.

Obamas answer: The notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was eight years old, somehow reflects on me and my values, doesnt make much sense, George. Obama was indeed only eight in early 1970.

Bill Ayers is an unrepentant domestic terrorist who helped found the Weather Underground. He and his organization were responsible for attacks on government buildings and public officials' families; their actions resulted in deaths and serious injuries to police officers and other innocent American citizens. Ayers eventually teamed up with Senator Barack Obama to work on educating youth in Chicago.

Obama published a rave review of Bill Ayers' book about juvenile justice in the Chicago Tribune. The book questioned the necessity of a prison system, compared America to South Africa's apartheid system, and dismissed the idea of the United States as a kind or just country.

If a Republican candidate had launched his political career at the home of an abortion-clinic bomber -- even a repentant one -- he would not have been able to run for dogcatcher in Podunk. And Ayers shows no remorse. His only regret is that he "didn't do enough."
