My friend fell into a coma after losing to skeith, i was watching him play... but after i came back from the washroom, he lay unconciouse on the floor with the tv screen saying game over. Ill never forget that dreadful night. I SWEAR I WILL DEFEAT YOU SKEEEEEITH!
Honestly, I think that Skeith's charm is the fact that when this game was new, and nobody had played it yet... Getting to experience your first boss battle after all of the exposition and setup... It's that first time that really shocks you. When I finally mustered the courage to try killing him again, I was still depressed, and I died. I tried again after a little planning and beat him and was fine. No other boss battle was as traumatic as Skeith. Everyone else was easy. I knew what to expect.
The worst thing about Skeith is once you finally let your guard down thinking Data Draining will end the fight he bumps on the ground dealing over 300 damage in a very large area. It caught me off guard and made an total party kill. Frustration ensued.
This fight was TERRIFYING. I remember being terrified of the Game Over screen itself in .hack// (the first time I died I just sat there too afraid to play again for days 9_9) I love how this whole series (the original 4 games I mean) has that effect- the way it uses static and silence in place of music from time to time makes the whole thing feel so real, it's beautifully horrific.

@zexion1000 I was like, 11 XD I was afraid of spiders (still am) and cute little puppies that barked. It definitely left a huge impact though, so whenever I hear Skeith's theme or see that picture of him, I get a little scared.
@Dageki i've always had a love for techno, so the song doesn't scare me. however, his form kinda creeps me out, especially his "face", if he even has one. :\ gorre was pretty creepy too.
i have to say, though, the game as a whole didn't terrorize me as much as 2 other games from my childhood. ^^;

By far the Skeith boss battle is the most immersive, and I just got sucked into it. I think i must have had tunnel vision because all I could see was the television. And when I heard the static, I remembered that people who get killed by data drain end up in a coma and I was panicking inside.
@Dageki Yea, i think thats the foucus on the boss fights in the original, to make you scared. If you want to avoid that then play the G.U trilogy. its more action happy then horror.
My first time fighting Skeith...wow...it was terrible, owned me in the seven minutes I was fighting him. Had Blackrose and Mistral as back-up...but...I think Elk would have helped more.

As long as you know what you're doing anyway and not just randomly attacking, I found Macha to be a big pain in the ass, tarvos was kinda easy, Gorre was a pain in the ass again because there's 2 of them and one is tolerant to physical and the other is tolerant to magic attacks -.- and they're fast lol.
@ThisWeedIsMine4 gorre was easy so long as you had a wavemaster. that way, you can have one target one and the other target the other, while you focus on healing and data drain (while doling out the occasional attack).
macha was a pain in the ass, though. it made it better to give everyone plenty of revives so when her spell wore off whoever was left standing could bring everyone back to life.
I find this Phase of Morganna the hardest due to the insane damage skeith does with the staff strike and judgement, his data drain(Like every avatar)is a pain.But i guess since youre on the'lower tier of'The World'' and dont have so many good skills, i.e debuff removal and poor healing abilities.Still.Skeith WILL make you throw your controller a few times before you manage to counter him properly.
@TheSephiroth5 His Non Data Drained phase is the easiest, if you don't know what you're doing after you data drain him though, you're FUCKED. All you have to do after you data drain him is use scrolls :).

You can't heal it when your whole party is charmed and confused, so they basicly beat the shit out of eachother until it wears off xD. Macha is the most frustrating out of them all In my opinion :P.

ouch sounds like u had it rough. same thing happened to me i data drained him thinking "ha now you will have about 500 health and ill crush ya" but instead..... he whips mah butt. even as a data-drained monster hes tough. i saw his health and im like " FUCK ME, HE HAS 4000 HEALTH" I was crushed. beat him on meh 3rd try though but he beat my ass mercilissly. all he has is an earthquake and still continues to whip meh.

I finished the 4th game in the .hack series last night, and I gotta say that not only does Skeith have the best music, but the hardest fight as well. I could also say it has the best design as well.
I never understood why Skeith, being the most human out of all of the phases, never talked. I mean, Gorre I can understand talking, being a pair of heads, and then there's Macha, who is almost human-ish, but Skeith never talked. That never really flew with me.
However, if he did talk, it would've gotten in the way of his awesome theme. So, I guess we should thank him for being mute. :P
@crapheadandidiot I always felt that was why it was called the Terror of Death. It was inescapable, relentless, and above all, totally silent. It was a program, doing nothing more than exactly what it was made to do, with cold calculated efficiency...
Skeith was just so awesome. Everything about him just made me dread meeting him in battle, and when I finally did have to fight him, he remained wily and dangerous down to the end. I saw him throughout the game, chasing Aura and killing the first character you meet. He quickly became my favorite JRPG boss, a title that still has yet to be usurped. And then look at what they did to him in G.U. Poor, poor Skeith...
the epicnes of skeith knows no bounds.... his theme music is just so amazing ^_^ one day im going to commission a team of song righters and a whole orchestra to make me my own theme song...... hope it sounds something like this ^_^

I think you can, I sat there playing for hours on end trying to find these rare weapons that had strange afterimages and well, some of those areas had tough enemies. I'm not sure what the maximuum level is but it could get pretty high. I guess I'll have to dust of the copy on my shelf.

Oddly enough, Skeith was the hardest thing for me to beat. That doesn't mean the others are easy, but this was one of the few bosses I lost to.

dude, this phase was such a BITCH in the game, i was not prepared and had to train TEN levels just to beat him. he was definitely the HARDEST phase for me because of how unprepared i was

I think that's why they made him the first phase, because they wanted you to know that these battles will get harder (except for Innis) and you need 99 of everything to win

@Kenshinjmc Corbenik had "Death and Rebirth" or whatever, it's been a long time, I neglected the chance to destroy the leaves/seeds he dropped and thought nothing of it... until he did the "Death and Rebirth" move that did 9999 Damage to me.

ouch sounds like u had it rough. same thing happened to me i data drained him thinking "ha now you will have about 500 health and ill crush ya" but instead..... he whips mah butt. even as a data-drained monster hes tough. i saw his health and im like " FUCK ME, HE HAS 4000 HEALTH" I was crushed. beat him on meh 3rd try though but he beat my ass mercilissly. all he has is an earthquake and still continues to whip meh.

@goldeneyekiller101 I think when he's Data Drained he also has some weak level 2 spells, but don't hold me to it.

Also, apparently "Skeith" means "Shadow" in Russian. Didn't know that.

I never understood why Skeith, being the most human out of all of the phases, never talked. I mean, Gorre I can understand talking, being a pair of heads, and then there's Macha, who is almost human-ish, but Skeith never talked. That never really flew with me.
However, if he did talk, it would've gotten in the way of his awesome theme. So, I guess we should thank him for being mute. :P

Skeith was just so awesome. Everything about him just made me dread meeting him in battle, and when I finally did have to fight him, he remained wily and dangerous down to the end. I saw him throughout the game, chasing Aura and killing the first character you meet. He quickly became my favorite JRPG boss, a title that still has yet to be usurped. And then look at what they did to him in G.U. Poor, poor Skeith...

The sound at the beginning and through the whole song sounds like someone yelling into a canyon...someone who's...really freaking out. o-o I heard something like that sound when I was little. I though it was someone yelling for help but it might have been a peacock.... :/

I think you can, I sat there playing for hours on end trying to find these rare weapons that had strange afterimages and well, some of those areas had tough enemies. I'm not sure what the maximuum level is but it could get pretty high. I guess I'll have to dust of the copy on my shelf.
